Could you see me in this?

There's something about this Eileen Fisher merino wool cascading front cardigan that is very appealing to me - in fact, I can't seem to stop looking at it. IMO it is a cardigan but with structure. I am normally not a cardigan person because I prefer the structure of a blazer but there are cold days when I occasionally want to wrap myself in something softer, you know?

I like the slim sleeves, the ruffles cascading down the front, but then in the back the waist is accentuated. It also has this hi-lo peplum effect. It is not a typical shapeless cardigan.

I can see it over top my black sheath dress with tights and boots on a colder day, over a white tee and jeans, etc. But it is different for me so I'm curious - could you see me in this?

This is a slightly hypothetical and slightly real question - it is currently available in my size at a fabulous price, complete with returns.

I like this cardi a lot! And I use cardis as layers autumn/winter/spring. I think it goes with pieces that have shape and are a bit fitted, like sheath dresses and jeans/tee. Lets see what others have to say :-)

And I like your hypothetical real question ;-)

i can see you in this style, but the color seems a little not you.

I love it! And I can see you in it, yes. Assuming it's petite; EF tend to be cut generously.

Nancylee sent me a similar one last year after deciding that grey wasn't her colour. Like you, I am a jacket girl at heart, but that sweater went on my trip to China. Now it has been relegated to lounge wear, but I enjoy it very much as such.

Harmonica - that's exactly how I'm seeing it - with more fitted or structural pieces as a companion.

kkards - the color is listed as charcoal which should be good for me. All shades of grey work with my salt-n-pepper hair quite well.

Suz - it is indeed a petite but is one size larger than the silver metallic EF top I just got. I see this as a good thing though since I would want layering room with the cardigan.

    Beautiful!

I really like it, and can see it in just the ways you describe styling it.  I do wonder if the collar might get too fussy IRL.  I'd say give it a try and see!

Well, I just bought it. I found it on eBay by a seller with an excellent rating. It is new with the tags, regular $218 and she was selling it for $69. She has a 30-day return policy and I didn't want to take the chance on it going to someone else, so pounced. I can always return if it doesn't work out.

    Thanks for the feedback!

Yay! Updates needed when it arrives :-)

It looks very comfy. I hope it works out for you

In terms of colour, I can see you in this with something bright underneath. I am surprised you like the ruffles. I see you as going for a style less fussy and messy... but I also like the style stretch.

I like this but I'd have to know the fuss factor with that collar and whether it hits the sweet spot in terms of the waist.  It reminds me a bit of the Prairie Underground clothing, which I love.

    Glad you are trying it!

Glad you are trying it!!  Gorgeous sweater!

  • Transcona Shannon replied 10 years ago

Mo and Una - yes, there could be some fuss factor involved, depending on how that ruffled collar sits and whether or not it stays put.

Rachy - ha! Love that I surprised you - lol!

Nothing ventured, nothing gained right ladies? :)

I think if it fits well around the bust & shoulder line it would look great on you.

  • Deborah replied 10 years ago

Shannon, I really like this:) I think it will just come down to fit. I love the look of an unstructured 'jacket' over a structered dress or skirt/top combo. It would be a nice alternative to your structured jackets and I feel it still fits within your style. Hope you will show us when it arrives.

Caro - I'm hoping because it's a petite size, that the shoulders will work. Keep your fingers crossed for me!

Deborah - I actually thought of you when I first started looking at this cardigan because it reminded me of some of your beautiful draped sweaters.

  • Deborah replied 10 years ago

Is it wrong I thought of me too?!? lol. Its just gorgeous and I love the look of EF garments. Such a good buy. Love Ebay.

  • Mia replied 10 years ago

I have a good feeling about this.  I think the charcoal will be amazing on you and it could turn out to be a real workhorse.

  • Transcona Shannon replied 10 years ago

    Lol Deb!

Maybe EF can be my version of Helmut Lang? His sizing just doesn't work for   my short apple body but I'm wanting to throw an unexpected piece into my wardrobe here and there. It may not be edgy the way HL is but it's still a bit different for me, don't you think?

That's how I'm seeing the metallic EF top I got. It's not my usual style and that's actually one of the things I really like about it.

  • Deborah replied 10 years ago

Sounds good Shannon. And it's all in HOW we wear things IMHO. This jacket/cardi over a structured dress with edgy footwear creates a whole different look for the cardigan. I like the idea because it demonstrates that YOU own "the look" not the other way round.

  • Transcona Shannon replied 10 years ago

Cross posted with you Mia - I hope you're right!

  • unfrumped replied 10 years ago

Honestly I do not see this type of fit for your style and the toppers that have looked so good on you heretofore. Meaning, I would not have picked it out as likely. So that's how I'm answering the question.
But,  I don't see any harm in trying it if it's easy to do so.

  • Jaime replied 10 years ago

Something like this I would need to see on you to say - but I absolutely understand your interest.

  • Caro in Oz replied 10 years ago

    Keeping them crossed :)
