WIW: Vintage Polka Dots

There are few things that are cheerier to wear than polka dots, don't you think?

Today's outfit started with my vintage red/white polka dot silk jacket. I usually wear this jacket buttoned up as I adore the peplum effect when buttoned, but today I decided to wear it open in a more "kimono-esque" fashion. This also allows me to do my column of colour for a lengthening effect. My column of colour today is all white with my white BF jeans, wide white leather belt and a slightly oversized white tee. Although I'm still on the hunt for the perfect slouchy white tee, this one will certainly do in the meantime.

I've finished off the outfit with my light cream satchel, bone laser cut oxfords and white watch. Again, there are a few shades of white, cream and bone in the same outfit.

What do you think? Is the vintage jacket working in a modern way? How are the proportions? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

Jacket: vintage
Tee: Joe Fresh
Jeans: Jessica Simpson
Belt: Danier Leather
Handbag: Danier Leather
Watch: thrifted

This totally works, Shannon!  And you're right, I don't there's a more cheery pattern than polka dots.  I love them, too!

Love your outfits. The jacket is awesome, shoes kick it right off! Whoops sorry.

Definitely modern with the shades of white. And today's favorite detail is the belt - I liked the second picture even better because I can see the buckle. BTW, I appreciated and completely related to your follow up comment on my comment yesterday even though I did not get a chance to respond again.

You and Mary got the same memo for a column of white with a statement blazer today. Looks wonderful and cheery.

This works brilliantly! I love the jacket open for a change and I love the white column of colour. So fresh and bright, Shannon. I am going to have to copy you with a version of my own. Hmmm. But I don't have those fun polka dots, alas!

I hope you are doing well Shannon, I've just read your OT threads about health issues, and made me  worry about  you, but hope it's going to be sorted soon. Bug hugs, and take care!xx

Great outfit!  I think the loafers really make the outfit look modern, so no worries about the jacket looking dated.

Fun jacket, I also have a fondness for polka dots.  My favorite piece here is those fab shoes, what a great wardrobe item!

Great look! I am really falling in love with oxfords I'm kinda late to it, but they've grown on me and they really make this look, in my opinion. Fab!

What a fab outfit Shannon! I am loving you in all your whites. And the polka jacket - love love.

  • Asingh replied 10 years ago

That's such a cute jacket, Shannon! I find it more retro than vintage.

Shevia - I really like the belt buckle showing too and am now paying attention to the buckle just as much as the leather when I buy a belt. It's like jewelry for your pants!

    Joy - I saw MaryK's outfit - too funny!

Suz - you already did this the other day with your column of white and your fab blue floral blazer. So maybe I'm copying you???

    lyn67 - thank you sweetie :)

    LMFLMF - welcome Laura!

Asingh - interesting comment about retro vs vintage. Does the fact that the jacket is actually from the late 1960's (originally had a matching skirt) make it vintage? I'm thinking the word "retro" refers to how something looks or is styled whereas the word "vintage" refers to the actual date of when it was made. What do you think?

I'm seeing lots of love for these loafers. I will be honest in that although I adored the look of them right out of the box, I wasn't entirely sure they were ME or looked good on me. But now that I've worn them quite a bit, I am completely smitten with them both in style and in comfort. Look at that...you CAN teach an old dog new tricks after all - lol!

Love it & yes I think jacket is working in a modern way. Can I repeat myself? I really love this outfit. I love the red pop of colour on the all white outfit.

More love from me on the bright column of white! So perfectly seasonal and fresh - like strawberries and ice-cream.

In fact - this is yesterday's Outfit Formula :)

Another k-word worthy outfit from our stunning Shannon!

You are definitely ruling the white looks!  So sweet and fresh.

Shannon, what's not to LOVE about this outfit. Your outfits just get better and better and better.

(Plus, I've bought red polkadot shirt recently and will sport it with something white very soon too :-) )

Shannon, this looks lovely. I am really enjoying your love affair with white. Brilliant styling of the jackets, I can see the kimono-esque vibe and it's fab.
