WIW: Strong & Simple

I wanted a completely fuss free outfit today and after yesterday's "miss", wanted to feel more modern.

I popped on my graphic black/white Maggy London wrap dress, cobalt suede booties and a simple black/white leather handbag. I've added my version of arm candy, a bold red lip and away we go. This feels like me.

Do note that when I head out into the snow, I will be swapping the blue booties for my Blondo Vergara boots.

What do you think? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

Dress: Maggy London
Booties: Aerosoles
Handbag: Danier Leather (thrifted)
Arm candy: all thrifted

Simple and I love it. The colored booties just add that bit of edge. Sometime simple is so perfect!

I really like it! Love the b&w with the purple shoes. I have to speak up though and say that I don't think yesterday was a "miss" at all, if you're talking about the lace&velvet outfit. I liked that one, but maybe I'm strange. :P

Love that dress on you. It's always so nice to have proven winner pieces like this in your closet that make you feel fab with almost no effort!

    Absolutely stunning.

By the way, yesterday was NOT a "miss." It was a change that not everyone loved.

However, this dress is so spectacular on you that if anyone dares to say she doesn't like it I will personally come and spank her bottom!!

Very nice! I like the pop of color the booties add.

I agree with Suz - chiming in to say it wasn't a miss either, just that there were many divergent opinions on the look. I love that you tried something different, and just because some people might not have liked it or thought it was a departure for you, that doesn't make it a negative necessarily!

This look is great, and it is an example of a FFBO for you. You can change things up in the accessories, boots etc. but the basic bones of the outfit are always there and easy to access.

I think your outfit yesterday was more creative -- you were taking isolated pieces and crafting an ensemble out of them. Maybe there are other ways to combine those items that are subjectively "better", but it shows your creativity and craft and love of fashion in creating your outfits.

Tracey - not to worry about completely bare legs! I'm wearing nude microfishnets which give a bit of warmth. It's not terribly cold here yet and will definitely be popping on tights once needed.

Astrid, Suz & Ceit - thank you for your comments about yesterday's outfit (velvet & lace). I did feel by the end of the day that the outfit and constructed was probably a miss. I like the pieces but don't think I would combine them in that exact way again.

Thank you Rae, Asingh, Kirti, Laura, Sona, Janet and Kristin!

    Adorable! Love the arm candy!

Classy lady! One thing though that I may add is a bangle/bracelet, earings of the same colour as the shoe.. although it looks great and pops out colour from the rest of the outfit, to join your stunning red lipstick, some colour in the upper part of your outfit may help make your lips brighter and your shoes combine better. Just an idea.
But what I fabulous dress! And outfit!! :D

That dress is so gorgeous. I love the stand collar and the wrap detail. OK honestly I love everything about it and the purple bootie is a lovely detail. Bravo!

    sorry double post

  • Parsley replied 11 years ago

Well, I don't know that yesterday was a miss, but you've certainly hit a bull's-eye today!
That dress is stunning on you, and the arm party and colorful booties are the perfect complement to the dress.
    You look fantastic!

I love the pop of red lipstick! :)

I love this dress on you. Are you a "dress for the weather" person? Do you mind a disconnect? If you do, I think the outfit can be "winterized" a bit more. The pairing with the light colored fishnets and without a topper, suggests transitional weather to me, not full "snow waiting for me outside" weather, Otherwise, FAB!

Sonia - lately I'm into a single pop of colour in my outfit that DOESN'T combine with anything else so I'm quite happy for my booties to be the only bright blue in the outfit. But thank you so much for your suggestion :)

Zap - I did try this dress with darker fishnets and didn't care for the look with the booties, which I was determined to wear today. I would argue that the outfit is plenty "winterized" when I step out the door with the knee high Blondo boots and my winter coat - lol! Also one of the reasons I bought this dress with 3/4 length sleeves is so I wouldn't have to wear a topper - there are days I don't feel like having layers on, you know? But I hear you :)

Thanks Preppy Pear, Day Vies, Shevia, Parsley and Jen!

Love this dress & an excellent call to have the pop of colour in the booties.

This is like my polka dot dress - cannot go wrong with it!
I especially love the red lipstick and arm candy - perfection!
