WIW: Furry Floral Fun (ETA update at bottom)

Well today's outfit is not only pushing my comfort zone but it's soooooo much fun! I got these floral skinnies at my local consignment shop on the weekend and have been impatiently waiting for Friday so I could wear them to work. They fit great, are super comfortable and with all of the various colours of the flowers (cobalt, citron, burgundy, etc.) the pairing possibilities are endless. I've paired them with this oversized cobalt furry sweater with a hi-lo hem and for footwear, my blue suede booties. I figure the outfit has enough going on and kept my accessories to a minimum - one silver ring and my grey snakeskin clutch.

On top of everything when I head out the door, I'm debuting my new citron short casual puffer. Outerwear here is absolutely essential and you need a few different options. I have been looking for a short casual puffer to pair with jeans and this Esprit one showed up at our local Bay store. I do not consider this breaking SYB - it's a necessity. It's light as a feather (oh wait...that's cause it's down filled - lol!), warm up to about -20 at which point I'll be switching to the Land's End heavy duty puffer, and I love the colour. This is my first citron coloured item EVER!

So what do you think? Have I completely lost my mind? Does this work? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

BTW - hubby's comment this morning? "oooohhhh sexy Cookie Monster" - LOL!!!

Puffer: Esprit

So much fun! Your husband is hilarious! What a great way to take a look and have fun with it. Those floral skinnies are really neat and I can see why you jumped at them!

    Great mini puffer too!

Love your Friday look. The puffer is fantastic - I was in the Bay yesterday and did not see that one but it looks very warm. I love the packable puffers - so soft and warm. I feel more confident about keeping my rasberry coat that I posted yesterday after seeing the citron!!! Hope it isn't too cold there yet!

The pants look great with the blue sweater! And citron looks great on you :-)

  • amiable replied 11 years ago

Wow! I love the pants, the sweater and the puffer! Great finds!

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

Forgot to mention that the great thing about this puffer is that the hood zips off and the sleeves zip off, in case you want to wear it as a vest when it's not too cold. Plus it's machine washable - gotta love that!

  • Suz replied 11 years ago

What other colours does this puffer come in? I might have to hop over to the Bay! It looks like so much fun!

LOVE you in that blue, too, Shannon. It's such a fun combination with the pants. Yay for casual Fridays.

    Nicely done on the citron!

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

Suz - the puffer was also in black and are you ready for this....PINK! Which we know looks amazing on you. Definitely check it out - I bought it last week and it was $100 off at only $89.99. If it's not still on sale I'm sure you could see if they would still honour the discount. Worth checking out.

I did ask my son this morning (he's 17) what he thought of the outfit and if it was too young for me and he promptly commented "you look cool". I will take that.

You are demonstrating, in it's full glory, the first rule of YLF, "Have fun with fashion." The color blue is vibrant and flattering and the jacket will be perfect for the long northern winter -- kind of like carrying your sunshine with you!

loving the pants. and that goegeous puffer. very, very nice choices that go awesomely together!

Update on outfit half way through the day: absolutely LOVE the jeans. They haven't bagged out at all and are extremely comfortable. No muffin top either so I can see doing a half tuck with these.

The sweater, however, is AWFUL. It is hot and is stretching out already. It feels huge and sloppy. But I do love the colour so will look for a better version of this and retire Cookie Monster to wearing at home on weekends curled up with a good book and a cup of coffee.

  • missvee replied 11 years ago

Gosh that was quick! Retired already :). It's a short life but a good one in TC's house!
Nice jeans - glad they're working out for you.

  • catgirl replied 11 years ago

I did not comment earlier because I am so not fond of sweaters in this fabrication, which all seem sort of stretched out and shapeless eventually. However, I LOVE the floral jeans on you - would like to see you dress 'em up with red boots and some sort of blazer!

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

Una - please don't ever be worried about commenting if it's on the negative side - I'm a big girl and can take it (lol!). I'm not really sure what possessed me to get the sweater other than I love LOVE the colour. But it really is truly hideous and I can hardly wait to get home and rip it off! I think I'm going to donate it to the kitties for a lovely winter blanket to curl up on...

I love the idea of my red Sam Edelman booties with the floral jeans - would the red blazer just be too much red? I can always do the black leather blazer.

  • catgirl replied 11 years ago

Maybe red blazer with black booties? Or black blazer with red booties? You know I'm not matchy so go with your intstincts.

I would take that sweater to our cabin for curling up on the couch. :)

Shannon what a great outfit! Made me smile. I have been back and forward on floral pants and I'm still undecided but your look here is encouraging, sorry about the sweater, the color is fabulous.

  • annagybe replied 11 years ago

Ok I'm a bit glad you're retiring the sweater. Otherwise I'd suggest a 1/2 tuck.

  • Suz replied 11 years ago

Shannon, thank you for the tip about the jacket! I willl check it out tomorrow and see if they have a pink one.

Guess what? I saw your jeans at Winners today!! I didn't buy them, but I am certain they are the very same. So glad they are a good fit.

But I am sorry (and commiserating) about the sweater. I got one in a different style but the same colour from Winners in Vancouver, and had the same problem. It is just AWFUL. It made me feel so UNfab when it bagged out on its very first wearing.

A POX on poor quality knits, i say!

  • JR replied 11 years ago

I really loved the colour of that sweater on you. So sorry it didn't work out better.

I'm sorry, I didn't love the citron colour with the rest of the outfit though. I'm not sure why. Maybe it's my conservatism kicking in, and objecting to the combination of such vivid pants with such a vivid jacket. I do like both of them separately though.

  • replied 11 years ago

Shannon, I confess, this one is throwing me up for a loop. I know the proportions work, perhaps is the coloring what's suggesting more of a Spring feel to me? But Angie wears all colors all season long, so that's not it... I like floral pants so that's not it either. Not very helpful, I'm afraid. You seemed to have enjoyed the experiment, that's a success to me.

  • morethanbeige replied 11 years ago

I love that color blue on you and it looks great with the skinnies. I have experienced the rapid bagging phenomena on various knits. I hate that. Nice puffer.

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

Deborah - glad I made you smile.

Anna - you can be more than a "bit" glad I'm retiring the sweater. I know I am - lol!

JR - no need to be sorry about not loving the citron with the other colours. Just be forewarned though that I will be wearing the citron puffer a lot - our winters are long!

Zap - I think it threw many people for a loop :) The items are definitely not spring items as they just showed up in the stores . Maybe it's just 'cause it doesn't seem like retro classic me?

  • DonnaF replied 11 years ago

So sorry about the bagged out sweater; how aggravating. I love, love, love the color of your puffer! It put a smile on my face. Citron is not a universally loved color, but IMHO, it is so much better (cheerier) on a gray day than a black or navy one. Wish I could convince my DD of that. DH likes me to wear bright colors when we go shopping so he can find me.

  • JR replied 11 years ago

Donna, that made me laugh! That's my philosophy regarding cars and parking lots, but I can't convince DH of it...

  • Joy replied 11 years ago

Shannon, I love the blue and the citron on you. If the sweater didn't make the cut, it will allow you to look for a different topper. I'd love to see something that picks up the green in the pants and is kind of low contrast with the background color, if that makes sense. I was looking forward to seeing how you styled the pants and this is great! Don't forget polkadots, stripes and checks as possible tops too.
