WIW: Slightly Menswear Inspired

Wearing my skinny slouchies to work on Friday again - have I mentioned I love these jeans? This pair is the one size up and I also have a pair that is two sizes larger than my regular size - I pick them up after work today from being hemmed just a wee bit more and will try those next week.

I've paired the jeans with a couple of older items in my wardrobe - this v-neck animal print short sleeved silk tee and a charcoal herringbone blazer complete with elbow patches. Once I got that together I thought the outfit had a bit of a menswear vibe so went with that and added an old leather belt with metal studs and large gunmetal buckle and my three tone patent oxfords. I like how the cream in the oxfords picks up the cream in the tee and lightens the outfit a bit.

Then for a ladylike juxtaposition, I added my black/red KS handbag and a strong red lip.

Not sure this photographs as well as it looked to me in the mirror but I'm really pleased with this outfit and my happiness scale is right up there.

What do you think? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome

Blazer: Gap (thrifted and altered)
Tee: Nygard
Jeans: Canyon River Blues
Shoes: Jeffrey Campbell
Handbag: Kate Spade (thrifted)
Belt: thrifted

Oh I am waiting for my bus and this was the best thing to see this morning!

You look fantastic. I think it photographs well.

Looks really great Shannon. The shoes really go well with the shirt without being matchy-matchy. I can see why you love those jeans, they look great on you!

Another winner. Is this the same woman who hated trousers so recently? Can't believe it. I love your shoes. I love your pinterest board, by the way. You really know what you like and it works.

Ceit - it's so funny 'cause after I put it all together I thought "huh...I think I'm wearing something Ceit would like" - lol!

Mochi - yep, same woman. I'm not sure what the heck happened but I'm all over trousers now. I think I just needed to find the ones that worked for me and stopped trying to cram myself into ones that look great on others, you know?

    Thanks Zap and Raisin!

I love the shoes, the tension between fitted and loose, and the juxtaposition of feminine and tough. Enjoy -- what a fun outfit!

I love the slouchy, a little bit faded jeans against the refined wing tips! Another great outfit, Shannon.

I am laughing! The only thing I would probably change for me, is to do a boot instead of the oxfords :) But that is mostly because I don't own a pair yet that work for me!

I am going to try and recreate this look myself, Shannon, I like it so much :)

Love this, Shannon. The juxtaposition of the ladylike bag with the menswear shoes is a great touch! And you know i love me a gentle grey toned leopard!

Love it, Shannon. You've mixed ladylike and menswear in a fun way.

    Looks great!

I love the "tension" here in this outfit -- ladylike vs masculine, soft tee vs hard edge, etc. This definitely works! And ... are you deliberately choosing a bright lip to play off your purse?

  • Amy replied 11 years ago

I like it all, Shannon, but I'm really drooling over those Jeffrey Campbell shoes. They're TDF!!!

Coming back to say that I actually like those jeans. I really do.

Such a creative blend of pieces that work together so cohesively. The blazer gives you great shape up top, balancing the slouchy skinnies. Just lovely!

I was looking for new jeans just after Christmas, and was interested in trying some new shapes. I've tried on so many boyfriend jeans and have never found them flattering on me. Same thing that day, they do me no favours. Then the store owner suggested slouchy skinnies, and I immediately thought of you. Tried them, loved them, bought them. No idea how to style them, but I'll be turning to you for inspiration!

Wow, Shannon, do I LOVE the way your top plays off your shoes! You look spectacular and if I had that top, I'd copy you in a hot second. I also adore the way you've added the red lip color to accompany your cute handbag. Perfect and I wouldn't change a thing!

Shannon, I feel like all your struggles with the Gap BFs really paid off, because you are styling these like a pro! How do you think they compare? You seem much more in love with these. Glad you are finding so many ways to wear them. PPW is going to be down to nothing soon!

I am loving the outfit. every part of it-clothes and shoes itself. I just don't feel this bag with this outfit though. I realize the bow is sort of in juxtaposition to the menswear style but I am feeling one of your amazing clutches more with this outfit.

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

Charmian - yes, the red lip is to go with my purse - I didn't want the purse to be lonely - lol!

Amy - these oxfords are one of my fave shoe purchases this year. Very comfortable.

Tina - you are going to love your slouchy skinnies!

Una - I definitely prefer these to the Gap BF's but I will say that the BF's were a great learning experience. It's like they were the "training wheels" for this style, you know? And strangely enough, these have helped me like the BF's more...it's a win-win!

Thank you all for your lovely comments - always nice to know I'm not headed in the wrong direction!

Wow, those shoes look so great on you. You look perfectly put together, just as you do every day.
