WIW: Skirt Suit My Way

I wanted to purchase a skirt suit for my new job for those days when I'm in more "official" meetings with the Board, government officials, etc. so I turned to Nygard, a Canadian brand that has always produced good quality suits in various fabrications and styles and to put the cherry on top, they come in petite sizes as well.

I found this black blazer and skirt suit on Boxing Day and it fit my needs perfectly - they produce new suits every year with tweaks to represent the current trends. This blazer for example is a bit longer, lower single button stance and narrower lapels.

For the top underneath the blazer, I chose the white silk blend v-neck cross body hi-low hem top my DS gave me for Christmas. I had been looking for a slouchy white tee for some time and this was perfect.

And then to add a bit of Shannon style, I added my large polka dot hose for a bit of whimsy, my black patent booties and my oversized animal print clutch. My silver wedding band and a large gun metal cuff, along with my signature red lip, complete the look.

Unfortunately I don't think this photographed as well as it looks IRL - oh well. So what do you think? Corporate without being stuffy? As always, comments/suggestions welcome.

BTW I'm in meetings most of the day so may not be able to come back and read your comments until much later.

Suit: Nygard
Hose: Hue
Booties: Ara
Clutch: XOXO (thrifted)
Cuff: thrifted

You look great! Your cross body top and fun dotted hose keep the overall look from becoming extreme corporate. I really like your shiny ankle boots, too!

  • donnat replied 6 years ago

Nothing stuffy, almost edgy... The hose and slouchy top really snazz it up. Very professional.

  • Suz replied 6 years ago

Looks great, Shannon! The clutch, top, and booties, plus the hose, make it trendy, not stuffy.

  • Neel replied 6 years ago

That is a very flattering suit on you. Great find! I love the fluid top inside too. I suppose your DS does know what his mum likes :)

    Exactly:"Corporate without being stuffy"+love it!:-)

  • Glory replied 6 years ago

Perfect wardrobe addition. I can see you getting loads of wear out of this suit - together and by themselves. Love love how you have edged it up with the stockings and boots.

  • El Cee replied 6 years ago

You look beautiful! Great suit. You have kept the overall look from being too corporate or stuffy by adding fun, textural elements (dotty hose and snake clutch). Love your style.

  • Joyce B replied 6 years ago

Yay! You know how to make a skirt suit a happy suit. It looks fab.

  • Raisin replied 6 years ago

Perfect suit!  I think the loose, white tee makes it look modern, and I do love the cute little polka dot tights.

  • amiable replied 6 years ago

Exactly corporate without being stuffy - you look amazingly terrific!  Way to go!

  • Emily replied 6 years ago

Corporate but not stuffy is absolutely right.  You look fabulous - this is definitely the way to wear a suit!

  • Sara L. replied 6 years ago

I think you look great!  The slouchy tee, polka dot tights, and oversized clutch make the outfit look current and not stuffy.

  • Lisa replied 6 years ago

Corporate with the suit and arty because you paired with fun hose and booties instead of classic hose and a classic pump.  Nice mix here.

  • E replied 6 years ago

You look exquisite! Definitely corporate but not stuffy. And the photographs look great to me, so I can't imagine how stunning it was in real life. :)

  • Beth Ann replied 6 years ago

A very snazzy suit, indeed.  You look modern and energetic, but very professional.  A great purchase!

  • vipanchi replied 6 years ago

You look professional and very modern! I like your style of photographs too - the close-up of the accessories in one shot!:)

  • carambola replied 6 years ago

You look great! Love all the details - drapey tee, cuff, dotty hose, and booties, and how they add personality and freshness.

  • kellygirl replied 6 years ago

Not stuffy at all. I think the top really helps to modernize the suit. LOVE the patterned tights too. So chic!

  • gryffin replied 6 years ago

Shannon - I so love this. Elegant and professional but those special shannon tweaks that make it so fun - those hose look great with the bag and cuff. I love that drapy tee with the suit, it loosens it up with the accessories and just looks great. Confident, fun, and just gorgeous!!

  • replied 6 years ago

Shannon- I just love your style. I could not carry this off (and do not have the lifestyle that requires it) so admire it all the more!

  • Peri replied 6 years ago

Really love the hose! I bought a pair of big polka dot tights and a pair of zigzag splash kind of pattern last year and have yet to wear them. I wanted them so badly and in reality I'm just chicken.

Or maybe because I so rarely wear a skirt or dress and when I do the occasion isn't quite right for wild tights?

Either way, seeing you wearing them them and looking fun, not goofy, makes me not give up...the day will come.
