WIW: Oversized Sweater

Today I'm working on cleaning up some files in my soon-to-be past job so comfy and casual was the dress code for the day.

It's still cold as heck out so started the outfit with these thick and warm tights topped with my dark denim pencil skirt. Added to that, I went with this merino wool striped oversized sweater. This sweater was oversized last year, but this winter is seriously so - see how it's just a large square? But it drapes nicely and works well to debombshell a pencil skirt.

I chose my knee high flat boots for footwear 'cause my sprained ankle has been bugging me a bit with the high heels I've been wearing and am giving it a break today. My large cream handbag finishes off the outfit, picking up the white stripe in the sweater.

When I head out the door, I'll be wearing my red puffer coat with white scarf and gloves - toasty warm.

So what do you think of this ensemble? does it work? is the sweater too oversized looking or can I still wear it? As alway, all comments/suggestions welcome.

Sweater: Lord & Taylor
Pencil skirt: Revolutions (thrifted)

I've never tried an oversized sweater with that much room, but you have seriously tempted me to try it. I rather like the way the hem dips at the sides and I love the way the bag, and of course your gloves and scarf pick out the white and add a lightness to brighten these dark winter days. I think you look smashing Shannon.

I think it looks good -- intentional, not that you are wearing a too-big sweater.

Lookin terrific! The sweater has such nice drape. I love those boots.

You look chic and cozy. Agreeing with Ceit that the size of the sweater looks intentional. The knee-high boots are a good choice for footwear. They look great with this outfit.

Looks good to me shrinking Shannon!

Perfect for the day! I like the drape, but would like to see  a somehow tighter wave on the low hem, but not an expert, of course. I think is all about comfyness-and would die to see this IRL (in motion).  Congrats for your new job, Shannon!

I am a total sucker for this type of silhouette -- it makes me happy. And I love this sweater, as you know. It's great with the lighter bag for a punch of winter white. (Note to self: need light bag).

So a question. When I wore my denim skirt with tights the other day, it kept sort of sticking, twisting and riding up a bit. How do you prevent that? When I am not wearing tights it doesn't happen.

Great outfit - you look comfy and trendy at the same time.

Shannon, your pictures always make me smile. I like this look -- the roominess looks intentional and cozy!

Brrrrrr!  This sweater looks marvelous with the sweater.  I love it.  The sweater is at the edge of workable, I think, but I'd still wear it.

I do have some friends who thrift who have deliberately shrunk too-large sweaters.  They did something like this:

    Stay warm, dear Shannon!

I think it looks intentional because the shoulders and neckline fits.  I love that sweater and would be sad if you had to let it go.

Suz - I wear a slip with almost all outfits with tights, even denim skirts, to prevent the skirt and tights from sticking together.

I love slouchy sweaters so to me it looks fab!

I think this is on the verge of being too big, but it works for now.  As mentioned above, it looks intentional.

Funny, if I'm doing an office clean up, I'd never wear a skirt.  Not that they aren't comfy, it just wouldn't cross my mind.  Hmm.

Your red puffer just makes me smile - and it looks so much like your personality - a LOT of fun!  I really like your outfit too - such a nice/dressy looking denim skirt!  However, I think the sweater is too big on you.  I love oversized and slouchy - but this, I think, is more than that.  When I began looking at the pics - every picture I looked at made me think that it was too big - but then, when I got to Pic #4 - I was absolutely positive.  It just looks to me like a sweater that you wore when you were a larger size, and now that you are smaller you don't realize just how much smaller you are, and so you are still wearing your "bigger" clothes - does that make sense?

Well, you know what I'm going to say -  I think it's perfect!

Shannon while you do look lovely, my first impression was they the sweater is too big. I would be inclined to keep it for casual and to wear with a skinny / slim leg jeans and create a slightly rate look.

I love sweaters like this. I gave up on my denim skirt because is always rode up no matter if I wore tights or not. You look great!
