WIW: Nothing Trendy

Today's outfit contains elements that are not particularly trendy and so I have a question of you wise Fabbers - does the outfit look modern even though the items are fairly classic and not trendy? Or does a non-trendy outfit automatically look dated?

My outfit started with this graphic black/white dress. I then topped that with my vibrant purple blazer - with popped collar and scrunched sleeve to show the pretty lining.

Semi opaque black tights, black patent pointy toe booties and my black/cream leather handbag are the finishing touches - along with black/white specs, large chrome watch and swipe of berry lipstick.

Would love your feedback on this outfit - all comments/suggestions welcome.

Blazer & dress: Cleo Petite
Booties: Ara
Handbag: Danier Leather (thrifted)

It looks completely modern to me.  I notice the bit of pattern mixing with the print of the dress and the lining of the blazer with the rolled sleeve.  You look fab -- I love it!

I think the booties with the dress make it modern, no matter what the rest of the pieces are.

I also really like the touch of pattern mixing.  Even the stripe on the purse gives that effect.  Would the pattern mixing also be considered modern?

PS.  Guess what I'm wearing today? :)

I don't think an outfit without a trendy piece necessarily looks dated; in fact a trendy piece can be what locates an otherwise classic look in time. Anyways, when each item is as perfect for you as these are, the outfit works! You look great in this, Shannon. The outfit feels current and looks deliberate. Well done!

The first thing that stands out to me is the print of the dress, which to my inexperienced eye does seem to be of a certain time and trend, although I couldn't say when. 2004 maybe? So in my mind the dress could be dated, but then that style of graphic print is still being sold in stores so maybe it is a classic and I just don't know it. That's my honest 2cents

The jacket does seem very modern, and I do like the pattern mixing.

I don't think that the individual items were highly trendy at the time when you bought them as to being outdated now, if that makes sense.
Sometimes a specific item has a cut or shape that is distinctive but if is something that resonates with your individual style it will always be current for you.
The outfit is gorgeous as always and you look very current.

Looks terrific - I think the booties give it a current look. I love the print on the dress - actually it is the jacket shape that looks more retro (in a good way).

I'm not sure that pieces need to be trendy, or even "on trend," to look current, or at least not dated. (How's that for a waffle answer?) I think today's look is timeless and classic. The colors are strong and you look good in this silhouette and color story. Your style descriptors may not include "timeless and classic" as daily goals, which may be why you feel conflicted about this look. You do like to be more on the edge of trends. Still, this look would be way outside the box for most women who have a less-evolved sense of style and I think you keep this look fresh. Your hair and specs also contribute to the overall contemporary look. You look great today.

No way. This outfit did not start with the dress! It started with the hair! :)

And I think it looks perfectly current. The booties make it "today" and the combination of a little edge (hair), a little retro (jacket), a little classic (dress) with a dynamic graphic B&W pattern and a big smile makes it totally Transcona Shannon and that transcends every trend. :)

We'll have to start calling her Transcenda Shannon.

I like Transcenda Shannon :)  As Suz and Nebraskim said very eloquently....
