WIW: Nothing Exciting JFE

The weather is miserable here at the moment - we got a couple of inches of new snow yesterday, it's supposed to rain today and then snow again tomorrow - Spring in Winnipeg is always unpredictable. So today's outfit is for the weather - it's dark and moody, the boots are practical for the weather and the outfit is barely JFE, kind of like the weather.

My outfit started with my J Brand Earhart aviator trousers. I haven't worn these in ages since they are a little light weight for winter but it's warm enough for them now so out they come. I love the balloon-type leg and short length with the wide elastic band at the ankle and zipper detail. So fun! But I'm under no illusions that they are particularly figure flattering so I've tried to lengthen the leg line a bit by then adding my Doc boots.

To continue with the black column of colour, I added my black knit tank untucked and then topped it all with my bronze metallic open weave hi-lo cardigan. My black leather w/gold hardware handbag, red specs and red lipstick finish off the outfit. I would love to be able to wear a large cuff with this outfit but I've learned no jewelry with this open weave cardigan - everything gets caught on the fabric.

Thoughts ladies? Does this at least meet JFE standards or should I have gone with the black skinnies? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

Interesting.  Either the photos are deceptively nice or you are too harsh in your assessment.  I see a column of black with a lovely sweater that adds texture and sheen.  It looks pretty darn flattering to me.

Looking good, Shannon! I think you are too hard on yourself. You have some great pieces and I like how you have combined them here.

Looking gorgeous, Shannon! I like the look with those pants as the open weave of the cardi makes it less bulky and more figure skimming. And what a cardi, wow! Love it. Don't think you need jewellery as the metallic sheen is a statement on its own. I'm still new to the insider talk so don't know what JFE is, but I'm liking this immensely.

I like these pants a lot. Definitely cool enough for JFE (Aliona: "just flattering enough"). When I read your post, I wondered how Docs could lengthen the leg line (sounded counter intuitive) but indeed they do that. I love the femininity of the cardigan against the tough boots. Really nice way to greet spring and kick winter's butt. (I am in the same place with new snow still coming. Although maybe not for much longer!)

I personally think pants look great on you. :) And that beautiful cardigan soften the lines very nicely.

In this case, JFE means: Just freekin' exceptional. This works great and meets the needs of the day.

I like the sparkly sweater with the black column of color.  I think you look great even though the outfit is not conventionally flattering.

Yikes! That was a fair bit of negativity from me first thing this morning wasn't it? We'll blame Dusty Bottom for that since he woke me up at 5:05 a.m. absolutely convinced it was time to eat...

I did slightly tweak the outfit after these pics were taken - I added my black leather belt and semi tucked the tank. Just that peek of belt and higher looking waist has provided the wee bit of structure and longer leg line I need to feel better in this outfit. I actually do LOVE these pants.

Thanks for your kind words :)

I have always loved those aviators :-) ... I couldn't find anything wrong with the outfit either. The column of black was flattering enough imo. YLF!

So glad someone explained the JFE meaning. I've seen the whole phrase a lot, but hadn't connected the dots to the acronym.

I'd like to add that I think this outfit is also JEE - Just Edgy Enough ;)
I was going to say if you wanted to elongate your lines heels would have worked better, but I think the Docs are perfect with the cardigan, which by the way is awesome.

I think this is a great look. Feels very current, yet relaxed. No JFE. Really fab.

More snow!!! Oh dear. Well you certainly make up for the horrid weather, because you are looking great! I wholly agree with Cheryle's assessment...YLF!
