WIW: Not Red

I've been wearing so much red lately I thought I should advertise that I am NOT wearing any red today - lol!

Today's outfit is about old favourites I'm feeling love for again. It started out with my cobalt blue knit pencil skirt. I've been wearing the black pencil skirt a lot and had kind of forgotten about the blue one. Ok….so first item chosen, now what? Oh I remember - my voluminous hi-lo grey/blue/green/white striped merino wool pullover. That blue stripe in the pullover is the same colour as the skirt. Hmmmm…now what tights? Oh yes…the darker grey ones with the tiny tone-on-tone stripe (only visible close up). Those will work with the grey in the pullover.

Onto footwear - what booties? Let's go with the blue/purple suede ones. They're a little unexpected I think and I like that. My quilted cobalt/cream handbag was the perfect choice since the blue went with the skirt and the cream went with the white stripe in the pullover.

My purple/clear specs, silver wedding band and swipe of berry lipstick finish off the outfit.

The skirt, pullover, booties and even tights are all a minimum of 3 years old. But what do you think - can you wear items that old and have an outfit still looks current? Does this all work together? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

Pullover: Lord & Taylor
Skirt: Cleo Petite
Tights: Hue
Handbag: Danier Leather
Boots: Aerosoles (the first Angie pick I purchased if I remember correctly)

YES, it looks current--good job! I love cobalt anything, and your oversized sweater is on trend and very fun. You look professional, comfortable, and current.

    Still looks good!

The oversized sweater is fun and fresh; the skirt is a great classic base for the outfit, and the booties add  a bit of modern pop.  Definite winner!

Definitely looks current (and cute) to me! I'm actually surprised that the sweater is 3 years old since it has such a perfect oversized hi-lo shape.

You must buy clothes with the future in mind because you look very current! I have a very similar skirt (from two years ago) and I wear it often. That sweater looks fabulous, cozy, and warm.

Love the colours, the stripes, the graphic precision with the purse. When it looks this good, who cares if it's current?

Take a bow Miss Lady. YLF.

Great, easy work look !  I'm surprised too that the sweater is a few years old - it looks in great shape.  As pretty as you are in red, cobalt is also a great colour for you and one you should wear often:)

Oooh! You know I love that sweater, right?  I have not seen it for a while. I think this outfit looks completely current (oversized sweaters are on trend) and very fab.

    Terrific outfit!

De-bombshelled, fab and fashionable. You look great in blue too. Fun to see you in skirts and dresses again, Shannon. xo

    PLONK!!!

So glad that sweater survived the Cull.  I've always really liked it too.  And that bag with it... total perfection.

Glad to hear I don't look "sooooo 2012" or something like that! And it's nice to know that some items I've kept can still hold a place in my ever evolving style and closet.

Thanks for the feedback ladies :)

Lovely outfit, I like this silhouette on you.

To be honest Shannon I feel you have honed your style to a point where the question of looking dated would not be an issue:). It's "your" style and it transcends trend etc to a great degree. You have a natural inclination to add modern to your outfits so I honesty,y don't ever expect any of your outfits to ever look dated:). It's a fab outfit. Lots of fun and made me smile when I saw it. Its a quite a colour assault (but I mean that on a good way) with the colours and proportions just gorgeous.

I think this look is very current.  I can see this working with your off white bag as well as the blue and it would tie in with the lighter part of the sweater.

I agree with Deborah too.  You are really working that smaller wardrobe to advantage.

Plenty current; 3 years old for an item is, for most things, not long enough to date an item unless it was a VERY trendy fringe trend that didn't stick around to begin with. The voluminous sweater is going strong, and booties don't seem to be going anywhere ever again ;) Great outfit, and I love that you went with a berry lipstick to complete the "not red" theme  ^^

Ooh, that looks very cozy, and the effect is kind of like a two piece dress. I really like what you are doing with your hair these days, too!

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 9 years ago

That is such a fun outfit on you, Shannon! I love the stripes and the color combination. And then, the piece de resistance--the bag!! It completes the outfit beautifully.

  • Vickie KY replied 9 years ago

I love the outfit especially your use of color in accessories.

  • catherine replied 9 years ago

Shannon, I love your hair this way. It is so flattering. You look lovely.

  • Thistle replied 9 years ago

So fab! You look terrific and on trend. Even better that the pieces are all 3+ years old. It means you're getting mileage out of them.

The cobalt and grey are lovely paired together.  I'll have to remember this pairing for my cobalt jeans.  Thanks for the idea.  And the cobalt is also just as festive as red, it's as strong a color as the red I see associated with Christmas at this time of year.

Yay for old favourites and classic retro-graphic Shannon style!
