WIW: Minimally Neutral

Today's outfit is minimal in terms of colour palette, number of pieces, and accessories. It is also completely neutral in terms of colour (except for the red lipstick).

This is the debut of my light cream Gap mesh sleeve sweater (I also bought it in grey). I love the softness, the drape, the oversized look without being sloppy and the way it can be worn either semi-tucked or untucked. I have the feeling I'll be wearing these sweaters a lot. I've paired it with my tweed front slouchy trousers which gives me a slouch-on-slouch look. I've added my simple black wedge booties for footwear and my white handbag for more neutral colour. My jewelry consists of my silver/white bangle watch.

I really like the simplicity of this outfit. Angie commented once that Urban Minimalism suits me and I'm kind of going with that in this outfit.

What do you think? Minimalist good or boring? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

Sweater: Gap
Trousers: Sears
Boots: Blowfish
Handbag: Danier Leather
Watch: thrifted

Lovely, as usual.  That bag is perfect.  Wish we had Danier...

I really like the simplicity of this outfit as well!  It's not too simple though, the pants have a bit of texture, the shirt has some interest in the mesh sleeves.  This might be my fav so far!

Great look -- I think these sweaters are going to be workhorses for me too. I like how the mesh sleeve plays with the tweed.

I am loving your urban minimalism Transcona Shannon! very nice outfit. I am a bit drawn to this sort of look myself, but when I wear it myself I wonder, is it too simple. When I see in on you I think yes, thats all you need.

This looks really great Shannon, I think simplicity suits you.  I got those sweaters in yellow and navy... I think the mesh speaks for itself, and doesn't require much else.

Beautiful!  SImple sometimes looks the best, and this really suits you.

I really like the simplicity of this outfit. You're right; this look does suit you very well. You look really put together and unfussy. It's simple, minimal and classic all at the same time. I'm sure you will get much use out of those sweaters. The beautiful bag ties it all together. I see so many posts about Danier; wish we had here.

Ooo, I really like this urban minimalism on you Shannon! You look like the boss here, not the assistant, that's for sure. I see what you mean about the sweater. What perfect fit and drape. I'm glad you picked up more than one. This look really, really suits you. You look fab!

Very nice! I really love this sweater on you. Minimal yes, but never boring.

I love the mesh sweater.  It brings a hint of spring into your look and the drape looks perfect.

Yum! Very urban sci-fi, in a way. Makes me think of the pristine cities in Aeon Flux and Minority Report. Makes me want to wear even more white!

I just love a sweater that looks a touch like a sweatshirt. This one is perfect with the mesh sleeves particularly in white. You just look amazing in high contrast looks, so great with your hair and complexion. The shape of the the sweater and pants is super flattering. Shannon, a very inspiring look, just gorgeous!

I like this, a lot. One of your better outfits recently.

Purdy! (As we say in the Heartland).  Don't you love the open neckline on these sweaters!  Just got mine (and they fit), and I like that aspect of the sweater most of all.

Great simple look.  Plenty of texture to add interest, and an easy, relaxed fit.

Shannon, this looks fantastic.  Are your arms bare under the sleeves?  That was my big concern as it's too cold here for that kind of open-weave.  I am looking out the window at 2 feet of fresh snow...  Also, did you go with petite?
  • Ornella replied 11 years ago
Wow. What a change. And you do *this* scheme and vibe so fab too. Love love love.

If this is minimalist, than minimalist is definitely a good thing! This is a great outfit on you. The handbag is beautiful, and I really like your boots. Aren't Blowfish shoes comfy? I just love them.
  • Angie replied 11 years ago
With cream booties - this is my look! You wear it to perfection with black booties.

OF COURSE I'm gonna love this just a little extra!! Boring to some, minimal killer perfection to me.

WOW! An 11 out of 10 you sassy creature :)

Gorgeous, Shannon! I think I really do need to get me one (or more) of those sweaters. I am also drooling anew at your Danier bag. I would like a light coloured bag, too. Need to check it out!

Wow - kinda overwhelmed with your lovely comments ladies! Apparently minimal style speaks to many of you.

Raisin - you make a great point in that the texture of the mesh sleeves and the texture of the tweed keeps the outfit from being "too" simple.

Rae - I'm completely falling in love with white, just like you. Let's hope our white leather jackets work out so we can wear more!

Beth Ann - yes, I really like the neckline on these sweaters.

Una - yep, arms are bare under the mesh. We're hovering around -3C so warm enough for me. I did go with the petite and I'm glad I did - I think the regular sizing would have been much too long and overwhelming on my short frame.

Ornella - it is a rather different vibe and style for me isn't it? Quite the departure from my retro fitted frocks.

Karie - these boots were my first Blowfish purchase and they won't be my last. I can walk in these babies all day no problem.

Angie - I originally had the SE python booties on with this and they worked well too. Was just feeling the black ones today though.

Suz - I can tell I'm going to use this handbag A LOT. It's actually not a true white but a creamy white and the stitching is a dark plum/purple color. Absolutely love it. And yes...you need one or more of these sweaters :)

My only concern ladies is whether this sweater is actually too big? I'm wondering if I should have gone down a size? Mind you this way if it shrinks with its first washing, I have some "wiggle room".

    Thanks all!

I like this a lot, Shannon. It's very clean, uncluttered, modern -- and very you!

Oh yes, this is my kind of outfit too Shannon! Really wonderful. I think Urban Minimalism does suit you quite nicely. Welcome to the team :)
