WIW: Lace jacket & Doc oxfords

Good morning my lovelies - I've missed you :)

Dressing this past week has been somewhat confusing - the leaves are falling off the trees, geese are flying and the days are getting shorter but the actual temperatures are hot, hot, hot. So I'm wanting to dress in fall like ensembles but try and stay cool.

I was thrilled to see Angie's blog post about refined darks in casual ensembles for MOTG and decided to take that formula and apply it to my office attire. I couldn't be more pleased that the colour combo of dark blue, black, grey and white is going to trending this fall - that's pretty much what my fall and winter wardrobe already consists of. Don't you love it when that happens?

Today's outfit started with my black midi pencil skirt and a simple black tank. I then added my ink blue lace jacket. This jacket is the perfect weight for this time of year since the sleeves breathe with the lace cut outs. For my touches of white, I dug out my neglected Doc Martens Sara oxfords. I like how the black in the shoe ties in with the skirt and then the white gives the lightness. I realize these shoes do not fit the current refined shoe trend as they are quite chunky, but hopefully they work in this instance. I then added my large light cream handbag for another touch of lightness. A simple black and white large watch completes the look.

What do you think? Does this illustrate Angie's formula? Do the shoes work with this? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

Oh yeah...and I've switched to my fall lipstick which is a darker red/burgundy blend.

Love this Shannon (I missed you!).

We have the opposite problem -- temps have dropped like a rock overnight and in the morning. Maybe that means some warm weather is coming back our way!

I like this a lot, and I have missed you also:). I am thrilled to see the Doc Sara's come out to play. I do love them.

I adore this Shannon. The touches of white and the hint of skin beneath the lace lift the darks to give a lovely balance. A very successful rendition of Angie's formula.

Great look and I hear you on confusing weather.  We have 40 degrees between night and day now, and I don't live in the desert.

I love the shoes and bag, with the hint of lace in the jacket.  I think that even when particular styles are trending, it can be fun to have some counterpoint.

    Welcome back.

It's so good to see you posting outfits, Shannon. Every time I see you in that blue lace jacket, I kick myself for not grabbing one when I could have. The white of the Sara oxfords keeps them from looking chunky. You are a vision of Angie's refined darks formula.

Perfect, Shannon! And we missed you!

I don't think your Saras are clunky on you at all. Remember what Angie said. It's all a matter of proportions. And if the shoe works, baby, wear it!

Our jacket! (More like your jacket that I shamelessly copied.) I totally know what you mean about the shoes - they are not the refined look of late but I think they still work well here. Just a different look. If you wore your pointy pumps it would be another outfit. And great to see you back!

Yay for the Doc Sara love! You are right Suz, it is all about proportion and I think my thicker legs work in my favor here.

    Thanks all :)

Love the otufit. Beautiful interpretation of Angie's formula!

Yay! Shannons back! this outfit totally works to my eye. I love the lacy sleeves on your moto and the way the white on your shoes bookends your bag. Fab :)

Love it Shannon! It all works well IMO. I love the shoes!

Punky! I'm starting to feel lace... what like 2 years in?

  • annagybe replied 10 years ago

    Looks great!

I like the shoes and bag together. Maybe a touch of something light at your neckline would pull it together even more.

Lovely outfit and I especially love the shoes!

Great outfit here!  The shoes are the star for me.  And you remind me how lazy I am being, I also need to switch over to my fall make-up colors.  My pink shades seemed "off" this morning to me.  Tomorrow I am pulling out the taupes. :)

  • Day Vies replied 10 years ago

That lace moto is dreamy!!! The round toe on your oxfords add a playful element to an outfit that could have gone vampy really fast. I love the contrast.

That darn heat!  Well at least you look hot in the right way. ;-)   Love that lace jacket on you. Great outfit overall.

How did I miss this jacket?  Gorgeous Shannon!  Love the white touches you put in there.

  • Beth Ann replied 10 years ago

Love the whole outfit!  That jacket has been a great piece for you, and I agree that the Sarah's balance your curvy, not that they are curvy, not thick, like a log, legs.

It'll be 95 F here tomorrow.  I get a 1/2 hour commute each way in a car without A/C.  Ick.

Glad to see you back! I like this a lot. The dark moody colours against the white, looks great!

Hey, glad you are back :)

YLF - I love this outfit & the shoes totally work. I think it would work with a more refined shoe too. The jacket is perfect :)

  • Transcona Shannon replied 10 years ago

Yep, this lace jacket on The Bay clearance rack has turned out to be a fabulous purchase. There's something kinda of cheeky about pairing lace with moto styling don't you think?

Rachy - "Punky" - love it!

Lisa - I found the same thing with the makeup. I put on my pink lipstick first and it just felt wrong.

Beth Ann - you're cracking me up with trying to describe my legs - lol!

Thanks for the welcome back ladies. It's good to be "home" :)
