WIW: Green, White, Orange & Animal Print

Yesterday was a very neutral outfit and today is about colour! It's going to be hot again so started with my ON cotton dress. This dress wrinkles like crazy which is why I haven't worn it a lot this summer but it is very comfortable and cool so decided to heck with the wrinkles today. I then added my white denim jacket for the A/C, my orange wedge sandals (sorry for the dusty floor in the pic!) and my animal print handbag for some pattern. Jewelry is my white watch.

I don't think this dress does my figure much good and when I wear it and look at the photos, I'm not happy with what I see. Not sure I'll keep this dress.

Anyway, what do you think? Does this work? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

Dress: Old Navy
Denim jacket: BUM Equipment (thrifted)
Sandals: Aerosoles
Handbag: thrifted
White watch: thrifted

The color of the dress is gorgeous on you Shannon. I wonder if removing the drawer string belt and wearing a slim to medium leather (leather look) belt would create some waist definition? I am thinking maybe that's what you are not liking when you look at the pictures. Bag and shoes look perfect with the dress:). Lol, I'm tempted to post a pic of my kitchen floor...you wouldn't feel the need to apologise for your floor :)

I love the dress! Yes, it totally works for me. I am infatuated with your sandals. Are those a recent purchase?

ETA: I see your concerns with waist definition. I think where the jean jacket hits is very flattering and you still look very shapely and beautiful. I don't think waist definition is necessary here but you could try a wide belt as suggested.

ETA2: Is your camera situated on the same spot? I am not sure but it seems as if the lense was situated a tad lower than usual. That angle might emphasize the mid section.

TS: Like you I'm not in love with the dress. I have to say though summer is so hard: I think for many of us our style quotient does take a dip compared to spring, fall and winter. But your accessories dot ake it to the next level! How about a belt?

Shannon, that green color is great on you, and your leopard bag and orange sandals are fab as can be with this outfit. I think the lines/fit of this dress aren't quite right for you, it seems to balloon out at the hips, making it less flattering than your usual sleeker styles. The white jacket mitigates the problem somewhat, but it's not my favorite dress on you.

I love how you've put the outfit together, though.

I think you have many other more worthy dresses. I think the waist doesn't hit where you get the most flattering look. The colour is gorgeous, but otherwise I am not wowed. It isn't horrible, though, but it isn't your best.

I love these colors on you and I love the combination of colors and textures together. To me the dress looks loose and comfortable and very nice.

Thanks for your honesty my friends - that's exactly the issue. The waistline is actually at my natural waist but then the dress balloons out (tulip shape?) so it looks like there's an excess of fabric or worse, an excess of me (lol)!

I'll try with a belt but I don't think that's going to do a lot for the hip area and at only $15, not worth altering. Might just toss this dress into the "hanging out in the garden" pile.

I like the idea here, but agreeing with you and others that the shape of the dress is just not up to par. Not as fab as we normally see you in.

I agree with others that the dress (at least from this angle) isn't as flattering as others that you have. However, when it's really hot outside, sometimes a loose, easy-fitting dress is just what you need, whether it's perfectly figure flattering or not.

How does the dress look without a topper? Is it sleeveless? At least for me loose dresses are a lot more flattering with bare arms. The color is great on you!

Shannon, I share Zap's perception that the camera angle may be a tad different here than usual. However, I also feel that for $15 a dress can be worn a few times and then told that it has had its season. Green won't be next summer's hot colour anyway. You'll be onto something new.

I also share Zap's obsession with your sandals. Those are wonderful!

I'm very happy with what I see in the photos :). The combination with the white denim jacket makes the silhouette of the dress flattering to my eye. And you kicked it all up a notch with the bag and shoes. Well done.

I'm glad you made peace with the crease!

Zap - I forgot to answer your question about the sandals. I bought these at the beginning of the summer (mid June if I remember correctly). Winner's sometimes carries Aerosole and that's where I got these. They are incredibly comfortable despite the height and I love the soft orange colour.

Zap/Suz - the camera was at the same height but was a little over to the left of me so there is a slightly different angle.

Angie - thanks for the assurance I don't look completely hideous. And sometimes you just have to accept the crease when it's hot!

I have decided though that I do not feel good in this dress and if I want to wear a pretty green summer dress, I'll go with the silk Tommy Hilfiger one that I thrifted. This ON one is going into the donate pile when I get home.

Keep the dress! It is very flattering both in color and cut, plus it looks great with the white jeans jacket and your choice of accessories!

It's not my fave but I like it - the color of the dress is gorgeous and you're wearing the colors of the Indian flag! :) I find ON fit to be a bit off sometimes because it's SO mass-market. Sometimes I find awesome stuff, sometimes it's garbage. For the price it's worth a season of fun, though.
