WIW: Citron & an orphan

This taupe skirt hasn't gotten a lot of love in the last year (bought it last spring). I wore the heck out of it the first summer I had it and then this year, felt it was too short to wear bare legged. I ended up letting down the hem by an inch and it does feel better, but I still haven't worn it much. I'm doing a final closet round-up for the summer and pulling out a couple of orphans to see if they are "keepers" or not. This skirt is one of those.

I've paired the skirt with my citron/cream/grey/taupe abstract drapey tank. No jacket today as the A/C in the office still isn't working and it's hot hot HOT here today. But I still feel appropriately covered. For footwear, I've got on my Blondo sandals and my handbag is my woven straw-like vintage bag. In looking at the pics, I wish I had chosen my citron clutch instead but too late now.

Jewelry is my silver wedding band and a steel/ebony Fossil watch my husband bought me for Christmas many years ago.

So what do you think? Does this all work together? Does the skirt deserve to stay in my closet? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

    Love this outfit!

Keep it Shannon! It looks great like this!

Beautiful! Citron is such a happy colour. Lovely accessories! I say keep the skirt for one more season.  Which other tops would you pair it with?

ETA: btw last night I dreamt that you moved in to my house and was my big sister. LOL. We had a great time :-)

Shannon it's a great skirt, and such a fab neutral, but given you haven't been wearing it, you have me wondering if it is "your" neutral? Do you think this tone of taupe is your best? When I look at the sandals, the two shades are very flattering. I do like how you have styled the skirt tho, the citron is a clever pairing.

Oh  !****! I was just about to type when I spilled Hummus down my top! That'll teach me to eat my lunch at the keyboard :P
Anyway I wanted to say I would give the skirt another season maybe?
I think todays styling with it is lovely, agreed, maybe the citron clutch would be a good choice ; but you look great as is. Now I'm off to change my top :D

I love this on you, especially with this top and shoes! But, as Deborah said, perhaps it isn't your neutral. But I still love it.

Shannon, you can't purge "our" skirt, LOL!

In all seriousness, I think you have worn it quite a bit. Compared to me, you have, that's for sure. I really only wore mine about 6 or 8 times through the fall and winter, and I don't consider it for summer wear at all because it feels too heavy to me. Maybe for September, depending on temps.

I love that you were able to bring down the hem. I need to see if I can do that on mine. I have the same feeling about the shortness of it.

I like this outfit on you!

I like it- keep the skirt!

I like it a lot here and think it would also look great with your nude kitten heels and a contrasting style top of your choice.

Harmonica - too funny! We would have a BLAST, wouldn't we? Think of the shopping together...

Deborah - I guess that's the question isn't it - whether this is my neutral. I wear a lot of black and white and some grey as my primary neutrals but have always thought I should have a taupe in there somewhere. I have no idea why I think that though - lol!

Diane - ack! I hope your hummus doesn't permanently stain your top.

Suz - I have worn the skirt a lot and it certainly doesn't owe me anything by now. Lowering the hem does make it feel more wearable to me.

Well I think I'll keep it for a while longer and see what other combinations I can come up with that feel fresh and new.

Thanks Rute, Ceit, Pil and Chewy!

ETA: Cross posted with you Shevia! Thanks for the suggestion - will definitely give that a try.

I'd hang on to the skirt awhile longer, but I'm not quite feeling this outfit. (I'm a spanner!) The taupe and citron are giving me a "beige" effect. Also, the pattern and criss-crossing on skirt and shoes feel like they're out-competing each other for attention to me.

Thank you on behalf of America for the Fourth of July wishes. Please pray for us that no one burns down our houses with their fireworks. *Argh*! Lol.

Very nice outfit, keep the skirt, it looks great!

  • Angie replied 10 years ago

It's an orphan because you're much more into white this season. Pair it with a lot more white!

    Great outfit though! xoxo

  • rae replied 10 years ago

I loved the skirt from the first, and I still do!

  • catgirl replied 10 years ago

It's a great combo, Shannon.  Just to share, I have struggled with my few remaining short skirts too.  I feel better wearing them with boots and booties rather than shoes or sandals - minimizes the mini aspect.  Even just above the knee feels mini to me now somehow!

  • Transcona Shannon replied 10 years ago

Rachy - OH NO!!! Not the dreaded "b" word??? - lol!

Angie - I most definitely into white this season and you've just given me a couple of ideas with your "pair it with more white" comment. Thank you :)

Una - funny how are tastes change so that something we wore just a year ago and felt so right, suddenly seems so wrong and uncomfortable. I guess that's a good thing though - otherwise, we'd never change.

    Thanks donnat and Rae!

Gonna keep the skirt for now and try a few higher contrast combos with white and other colours. Thank you for your suggestions.

I think the skirt is a keeper as a neutral base. I like the outfit but agree with a previous poster that the citron bag may have worked better than the woven bag.

  • Joy replied 10 years ago

I think you should keep the skirt for now. How about wearing it with your yellow jacket, white blazer or vintage red dotty jacket, or your orange Cleo petite knit top? It think it would look great with black or white with a colorful accent.

  • Transcona Shannon replied 10 years ago

Joy - I think you're in my head - lol! As soon as Shevia suggested the taupe pumps and a contrasting top, I thought of the orange Cleo knit top too. And I love the idea of the white blazer and vintage dot jacket too - fabulous suggestions.

What Angie said - the fit is great.

  • Runcarla replied 10 years ago

Keep the skirt. And, I love it paired with the sandals. Can't wait to see what other combos you come up with.
