WIW: Casual Stripes

TGIF!

Casual Friday today started with this light weight "almost mesh" striped Gap sweater in red, navy and white. I've paired the sweater with my ancient but still loved straight leg dark wash jeans. And because red is one of my favourite colours, I decided to wear my red boots to play with the red stripe in the sweater. My handbag is my slouchy black leather lamb bag and jewelry is limited to my silver wedding band and my black/white/silver men's watch.

This outfit is about as simple as it gets - but I'm comfortable, still put together and ready for the day.

What do you think? Does it all work together? Proportions ok? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

Sweater: Gap
Jeans: Reitmans
Boots: Sam Edelman
Handbag: Christopher Kon (consignment)
Watch: Calvin Klein (thrifted)

I am very into stripes and dropped shoulders at the moment so you won't be surprise to learn I love this sweater. And you know I love the red booties! It might be simple but it is not easy, although you make it look as though it is.

Very simple colors play nicely. Though I tend not to like bold stripes on top, my own personal preference. Definitely loving your boots. The color palette is very classy!

Simple yes, but also very stylish. You make it look effortless, Shannon. Isn't the red uplifting? Love it.

Love the chunky knit sweater. You look cozy but put together. I think the red boots are the perfect touch.

This is one of my favs of yours - the stripes are great on your figure, they make your hips and legs look so skinny! And the red shoes are like icing on the cake, the best part!

You know the March issue of Harper's Bazaar was promoting dark wash skinnies. You're right on trend.

You look terrific in stripes, Shannon. I've found the dropped shoulder seam (or bicep seam, as I call it) to be death on me, but it looks so nicely relaxed on you!

Love the bookending in the boots. This is the element that gives this outfit its polished "finish."

I find this colour combination very fresh and on trend. I shy away from red, but it really looks great on you especially paired with black and white. It is a perfect time to break out the lighter weight sweaters (even if it is still freezing) but they feel right for this time of year. Great outfit Shannon!

Stripes are something I never wore pre YLF - I was convinced that a curvy petite should NOT wear horizontal stripes. But I'm learning it's all in the shape of the garment, width of the stripe and what else you pair the item with.

Anna - wow! I don't think I've ever been on trend before - lol!

    Thanks ladies!

Yay for simple outfits. What I see is great fit here, I mean, can pants be any more perfect than those? And the top is modern classic (love the drop shoulder seam). I could see Angie wearing this. OK, well maybe she would need to put a turtleneck or white Anne Fontaine shirt underneath to keep warm. :-)

No, I can't even look at it. Those boots, what were you thinking? Striped sweater which seems to be bringing together those booties and your hair, what on earth possessed you lady? Looks awful, all of it. Please send the sweater and especially the booties my way, I have to free up your wardrobe from those things that so obviously don't work and don't look pretty and if I could wear those jeans I'd want them too because they are probably one pair of jeans I don't like on you most of all yours.

And btw, if you ever think of pairing those booties with your B44 dress I'll actually have to fly over and snatch them off you because that would not be pretty outfit at all.
