WIW: Bootcuts & touches of white

For Denim Day today (our version of Casual Friday) I popped on a pair of jeans I haven't worn for quite a while. Although a good fit and I think flattering, they don't feel very modern to me because of the leg line. I really think I need a new pair of blue jeans.

Anyway, I've paired these bootcuts with a dark purple tank, semi tucked, and added on top of that an old but much loved cardigan, that has an abstract pattern in dark purple, black, lilac, white and yellow. I've added a wide white leather belt, python booties and watch for touches of white to lighten the outfit and my citron leather clutch to pull out the yellow in the cardigan and provide further spring touches.

What do you think? Does it work? Do I need a different silhouette of dark jeans? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

Cardigan: Peter Nygard
Tank: Gap
Jeans: Suko
Boots: Sam Edelman
Clutch: Gap

Good morning!  Shannon I think this looks very modern.  I tend to feel the same way about my bootcuts BUT I really like this look  AND i think bootcuts are extremely flattering on you. Love the pop of yello  and the booties and belt are perfect here.

Shannon, you look modern and lovely today as always. The colors are magnificent. I also really like the bootcut silhouette on you, and I wouldn't be surprised to see it more often from now on - people must get tired of skinnies any day now. One of my colleagues, the most trendy I have, wore hers yesterday, and I thought: "Yes!". But if you are unhappy with them, you could always consider having the legs altered to straights.

You do wear bootcuts well Shannon. The flowy blouse and semi tuck  bring it all bang up to date and the light colours in your accesories are lovely. I now wish my new white belt would hurry up and arrive, grrr..!

Nice put together look, I love the boots that complete the outfit.

I always love seeing this sweater :) I think the jeans look fine, but it might just be you are tired of them!

I have the same problem with my bootcuts! I really do preffer my skinnies nowadays-or no jeans at all! I am always late to a trend, and i can remember how reluctant I was after years of bootcuts and straightcuts with buying  skinnies for myself, but my eyes adjusted to them eventually, and now I really don't like to put on my bootcuts. I think, it's about  current shoe styles, too.  But YLF no matter what are your jeans style! Love the cardi, and the purse, too:-)

I think the silhoutte is lovely and flattering.  Bootcuts never really go out of style, but they are not as "everywhere" as skinnies and even straight legs.

Still, these fit well and look fab.  I would keep them and enjoy them  :)  I may be a bit biased ont his as I hated my long and painful jeans search! But honestly, finding jeans that fit and flatter is HARD.

Moving away from bootcuts myself but these look great because of the way you have styled them and because they are PPL and very flattering. Your style is advanced enough to incorporate classic elements seamlessly!

The white belt totally adds the current to the classic style jeans. Bootcuts are probably due for a comeback so you are ahead of the curve! Love how you wear the sweater too!

Shannon, I love this.  The patttern of the sweater is so nice with the boots and the white belt peeking out. Those jeans are terribly flattering, I hope you are only thinking of adding a new silhouette of jean and not retiring these. Then again, I'm totally behind the fashion curve here as I still wear my bootcuts.

Thanks for the feedback about the jeans all - I agree that bootcuts are never really "out" and I'm not a huge fan of skinnies on myself. When I look at the pictures, these jeans actually do fit well and look fine. I won't purge them, maybe just add a straight leg to the jeans I have.

Bootcuts look amazing on you. I think the citron bag, white watch and the patterned boots keep this looking very modern, Shannon. I'd wear this proudly. You look terrific!

I think the outfit looks nice and is modern as it is, though I agree some straight leg jeans may be nice. I don't wear my bootcuts much either right now. Straight or slim legs seem to be a preference these days. I really like the patterned cardi and am so glad you also gave me the idea of wearing cardis as sweaters a while back as I've "rescued" a couple of closet cardi orphans. :-)

I think you look plenty modern and fabulous! You added that modern injection with the footwear, belt and bag :)

    Great outfit! Love the cardigan.

I like the bootcuts on you.  You look modern with the lighter boots and belt.  I don't wear mine as much because I don't seem to have the right shoes anymore.  Especially now that's it's warming up and I packed away most of my boots.

This is a great, easy going look. I love the dark top and light shoes. Mixes things up.

Was looking at your blog, Shannon; it's nice to see your whole string of outfits. You're going strong and keeping it up. I like that!

Love love love. This is how I dress, but much nicer than how I dress...if that makes any sense. Told you I want your style!

Never heard of that jeans brand. Is that Canadian?

  • Joy replied 11 years ago

You look wonderfully stylish with the modern touches. I always get compliments when wearing boot cuts but don't think I'd buy them new. Then I'd have to designate a heel height and have them shortened.

  • Suz replied 11 years ago
You look very stylish indeed. It's the touches of white and the clutch that do it! Amazing how the details make the difference. The jeans are super-flattering on you!
  • rae replied 11 years ago
Great look! And btw, I love the idea of having denim day instead of a "casual day." I think subliminally, the word casual encourages too much dressing down.
  • Nicole D replied 11 years ago
LOVE the cardi.  Those colours are so nice.  How much weight have you lost, sweetie?  You just look really healthy and fit (more than ever)!
  • Kiwichik replied 11 years ago

Well it has all been said before but no arm in doing it again - the boots, belt & clutch make this look very now and the jeans and carigan are great classic pieces.

  • CocoLion replied 11 years ago
Whatever you do, DON'T get rid of those jeans because they look amazing on you!  Have you tried them with a more oversized top, something with an open neckline?  Or maybe sheer?  That would be another way to style boot cuts in a 2013 way.
  • Lyn D. replied 11 years ago
I like this Shannon, and the dark wash of the denim gives them more of a tailored pant feel than of jeans.
I can see why the topper is a favourite- the colours look FAB on you!

Sorry I'm so late getting back to your responses - my goodness, life can be busy can't it?

Angie - I guess having the right accessories and footwear can really help an outfit stay current. Thank you :)

Rachy - thanks for your lovely comment about my blog and outfits. I find posting a WIW every day (at least during the week) keeps me wanting to dress well.

Peri - I have no idea if Suko is Canadian or not. The jeans are sold in our Winner's stores (TJ Maxx in the US) so you could check out there if that's where you are.

Rae - interesting point about "denim day" sounding less casual. Never thought about that. We actually have to pay $2 each Friday for the privilege of wearing jeans. Denim Day is a fund raiser at our office for charity. It's actually a pretty cool idea.

Nicole - you just made my day! I've only lost about 8 pounds but the fitness program I'm on is starting to make some difference in the shape of my body and I've gone down one size so far. More to go, but slow and steady wins the race :)

Denise - my husband LOVES these jeans. They may be his favourite. Always makes a comment that the rear view is particularly pleasing in these jeans - lol! Thanks for the additional styling tips. Will give those a try.

    Thanks Lyn!
