WIW: Black & White Ombre

Good morning beautiful Fabbers :)

Today's outfit centres around this gorgeous EF silk, sleeveless, black & white ombre blouse. I fell in love with this blouse the first time I saw it and found it on eBay new with tags. Fabulous eBay story by the way - it arrived a few weeks ago but when I unwrapped it, the seller had unfortunately folded the blouse in such a way that the glue from the original tag stuck to the silk and left a horrendous sticky stain. I took pics and sent to the seller who was positively mortified. She not only paid for the dry cleaning to remove the sticky stain, but offered a full refund including shipping to return the blouse if the stain did not come out. The dry cleaning was successful and I couldn't be more thrilled.

I've paired the blouse with my slim cropped EF trousers - this time with my black and white ankle strap pointy toe shoes. Angie had commented the last time I wore these cropped pants that she preferred them rolled unless worn with ankle straps. Well, when Angie speaks, I listen - lol!

The stock pic of this blouse shows it with a white tank underneath and with black trousers. When I first tried it, I wasn't sure as you can clearly see where the tank ends underneath the darker portion of the blouse. But when I tried a black tank underneath, I wasn't crazy about how it "dulled" the white portion of the blouse. So I'm going with a white tank and now actually quite like the effect. I realize it won't be to everyone's liking though.

And if the Arctic A/C is crazy in the office today, I will pop on my black suit blazer.

I finished off the outfit with my white leather clutch, silver watch and wedding band and my black/white specs.

So what do you think? does this all work together? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

    I like it very much.

I have really missed a lot by not keeping up to date on the forum.  Those shoes are amazing!!  I love the shading in the top as well.  I don't see any issue with the white tank but maybe the concern you had doesn't translate into photos.  Very nice.

Love it.. Want it..need I say more ;). Beautiful styling too Shannon and how awesome is the seller. Bet you gave her excellent feedback;)

  • Elizabeth P replied 9 years ago

Oh, love love love.  I think the line of the tank looks intentional, as it's in the right place proportionally to the beginning of the ombre colour up above.  Kind of in thirds.

    What a great eBay story.

Are you effected by the flooding at all?

  • Joy replied 9 years ago

The EF has had this top on sale and you make it so tempting, although it is still pricy. That is a great EBay story. Your outfit looks amazing and you have styled it to perfection. I like the white tank for summer. How does a nude tank look? Fab shoes.

Gorgeous! Oooh, I just love this on you! And yes, the ankle straps really elevates it. I admit, I like it better without the jacket (which is odd or me!) the top is just that spectacular I love it getting the limelight.

This whole look is great. Now I want to do a black and white Shannon ensemble for the day.

  • viva replied 9 years ago

Great outfit -- the scrunching of the jacket sleeves makes such a difference in the overall look.

  • Claudia replied 9 years ago

Such a great outfit. I really love it! YLF.

  • Suz replied 9 years ago

Absolutely stunning, Shannon! The shoes are the perfect complement to the top. What a lovely, lovely look on you. And great ebay story, too.

    Gorgeous look on gorgeous you!

Dianthus - I picked up these shoes last summer at RW&Co and was amazed at how comfortable they are. They actually have pretty decent footwear there.

Deborah - lol! I knew you'd like this one. We love our black and white with drape, don't we? And yes, I did indeed give the seller excellent feedback.

Elizabeth - we're personally not affected by the flood - yet. But we have friends that live out of town that were evacuated from their home yesterday. It's a terrible situation outside of Winnipeg. Thank you for asking :)

Joy - I haven't tried it with a nude tank but that's a great suggestion. Thank you.

Thistle - I also prefer the outfit without the jacket and am wearing it that way right now. The blouse is really meant to be on its own I think.

Viva - isn't it amazing how just a little thing like scrunching the sleeves can make a difference?

    Thank you all :)

    Looks super, Shannon!

A gorgeous piece.  This outfit has a minimal look to it, not much color, and great texture from the items (rolled hems on the trousers, curved hem on the tank)  Nice job!

Lovely EBay story :). The blouse and the shoes are truly fantastic! I like the ombre effect and the jacket over it looks very interesting and sophisticated. Truly fab!

  • Tanya replied 9 years ago

What a beautiful blouse, and I thnk it works great with the white tank.  thsoe shoes are amazing, and go perfectly with the blouse.  A nice E-bay story too.
You are looking better than ever, Shannon!

I LOVE this!   Both with the jacket and without.   I love the architectural lines you've created with the blouse and the ankle straps on the shoes.   You look gorgeous (as always)!  :)

  • Janet replied 9 years ago

You had me at black and white ombre, but this looks even better than I expected! Really great top on you, and I love how you've repeated the white in the shoes.

You are one of the people responsible for me even *looking* at EF lately. I never had any attraction to her designs before, so it's been interesting to cast a more open-minded eye when I see the EF racks in Nordstrom. I now have one EF top, which I really like (the silvery white linen tank top). The fits are not always ideal for me, and the sizing is a little whack (a skirt in a S was almost too big for me, and I am NOT small!), but I've found that it's worth looking. So thank you! :-)

Just want this, head to toe! YOU, little gorgeous (and lucky) creature:-)

  • dianne replied 9 years ago

Love the blouse!  The whole outfit looks stunning!!

    #2 is:

Killer to the power of Killer. Yeah. It launched me into orbit.

Can you provide a link to the shoes, Shannon?

(Glad you got the stain out of your gorgeous blouse).

  • carambola replied 9 years ago

WOW. I really love this outfit. That blouse and those shoes together are perfection.

  • Transcona Shannon replied 9 years ago

My goodness...you are all making me blush! :)

Janet - that is very high praise indeed. Thank you. I used to think of EF as quite "fuddy duddy". But no longer.

Angie - squeeeee!!! A K2K rating? My word :) And even with all this black? I would love to provide you with a link to the shoes but sadly I bought them last summer and they are no longer showing up on the RW&Co website :(  However, here is a link to their new version this year of a very similar shoe - a beautiful blue patent http://www.rw-co.com/Pointy-to.....ml?start=6. I will say that their shoes are very, very comfortable.

  • Angie replied 9 years ago

Thanks, sweet Shannon. Stunning shoes. xo

  • jackiec replied 9 years ago

Love it! I like how the shoes echo the ombre effect of the blouse. Outstanding.

  • Elizabeth P replied 9 years ago

    BLUE PATENT!!!

    Crap.

    So much for July.

How do they fit Shannon?  Do you have Okalas you can compare sizes to?  Not sure what else I might have that would be a good comparison.

  • celia replied 9 years ago

This post has so many fabulous things. The story about the conscious retailer, the fabulous outfit, the great link for shoes ..
You are truly amazing Shannon !

  • Transcona Shannon replied 9 years ago

Elizabeth - sorry 'bout July - lol! I'm afraid I haven't even tried on the Okalas so can't give a size comparison. I will say that the RW shoes are what I would consider TTS. I normally wear a 6.5 and that's what mine are. What I really like about them is the front does not cut into my bunion AT ALL! I would say they are medium width bordering on slightly wide across the the front of the foot where your big toe/foot joint is and that works really well for me. The ones I'm wearing are actually real suede leather but I note that the blue patent ones are listed as "leather like" so you may want to take that into consideration. It took me a little while to get used to the high back on these and I did have to put a piece of moleskin across the top back so it wouldn't rub but after doing that, super duper comfy. Do you have an RW&Co in your area where you could try on?

  • Greyscale replied 9 years ago

LOVE it. I want to copy it right now.

  • Elizabeth P replied 9 years ago

Thanks Shannon.  We don't have one of those stores here, unfortunately.  But I see they have a flat rate shipping of only $4.95, and free returns (how weird is that?) so I might order two pairs and see.   Navy shoes are a bit of a HEWI for me.

  • Elizabeth P replied 9 years ago

Take that back... there's one in the mall that's 5 min from my house!  I THOUGHT I'd seen it...  Strange when I first looked it said there were none near my postal code, then whammo.

    Hmmmm.....

  • citygirldc replied 9 years ago

You can do no wrong with this outfit. Love!!!

  • rabbit replied 9 years ago

LOVE THIS,  both iterations are wonderful, and I really like those shoes.

  • Karie replied 9 years ago

I love, love, love this. It looks just as fab with the jacket as it does without. The white cami looks fine underneath. The entire outfit is gorgeous!

  • abc replied 9 years ago

    LOVE!

  • Debbie replied 9 years ago

    Absolutely love this!

  • Susie replied 9 years ago

Black and white? Yes please! I love this, Shannon. I don't recall seeing those shoes before...what a great choice for this outfit.

  • Debra replied 9 years ago
