WIB: To get through the rest of winter

Further to my thread I started about getting sick of my winter wardrobe (http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....ng-sick-of), DH, MIL, DS and I went to check out the fab sales at The Bay and then stopped for a little family thrifting at my local Value Village. What a hoot - ages from 17 to 80 all shopping together! We had a blast and are now settling down for some appetizers and the Super Bowl.

But I had to post what I came home with first - these are in random order BTW. These items will get through to our true spring weather which hits around mid April. The items I bought at The Bay were all 30% off with an additional 50% off at the check out. Ridiculous! But I still made sure all were good quality and fit properly - you'd be proud of me Angie, I didn't let price make the decisions!

1. Esprit black and grey wool sweater. The sleeves are 3/4 length, the neckline is boatneck and there is a silver lurex stripe down the front slightly off centre. Will work well with jeans, slouchy trousers and black pencil skirt.

2. Material Girl off white with black sleeves bomber jacket - will be fab with jeans, over my black sheath dress and with my slouchy trousers.

3. Value Village - a gorgeous cream leather and silver cuff.

4. Value Village - silk floral scarf to perk up any winter outfit.

5. Esprit gold lurex knit sweater - with any of my black bottoms and with my brown lace skirt, Cleo multi coloured abstract print skirt, brown Esprit trousers.

6. Lord & Taylor cashmere Kelly green sweater (it looks more turquoise in the pics but it is a true green). Feels amazing on - will go with everything.

7. Jessica Simpson grey, slightly "beat up" skinnies - sized up to be more slouchy. Adore the fit of these and love the fact that they're not blue.

Sorry I don't have time to show you the items on - you'll just have to trust me! Hope you like my haul. I couldn't be more thrilled!

BTW - DH got a gorgeous Calvin Klein dress shirt; DS got two Fossil belts; MIL got a Lord & Taylor cashmere cardigan.

Love the jacket and neckline detail on the green sweater.

Wow! That is a lot of shopping. And I can see that your Bay had a lot more fun items than mine. Those pieces look gorgeous! Love the first sweater in particular.

Shannon, I think you might as well admit it. Shopping for you is hugely entertaining and fills an important need. It makes you feel good, and you like a lot of variety in your closet. There is nothing wrong with that. So no beating yourself up about it later on, okay? :-)

I think you bought some great wardrobe refreshers!

These are all great finds! I especially envy your slouchy jeans. I just can't seem to find a pair that fits right, which I think is me not quite understanding how slouchy jeans should fit. I hope that makes sense.

No beating up to worry about Suz - these items are both hubby approved and budget approved! Plus you're right - I do enjoy the process of shopping and I do like more variety. There. I've admitted it. And I not ashamed :)

    Thanks Anna, Ceit and Sara!

What a haul, I'm envious of 1, 3 and 7. I also can't get over your husband being there for this treasure hunt. Mine would rather put a stick in his eye than go shopping : )

Good! I am glad you are feeling okay about the little family expedition.

    And so you should.

I have started to get my own head around the idea of a more fluid wardrobe, too. Not necessarily larger -- my goal remains to keep the wardrobe fairly compact. But I DEFINITELY see a lot of movement in and out as I recycle things that no longer meet my goals (or bore me...or didn't work out) and add in fun new items!

What a gorgeous haul! I love it all but especially the bomber, the skinnies and the cuff.
I tried on an oversized high-low hem bottle green Lord and Taylor cashmere sweater--with the sale it would have been around $90. I almost bought it.

Great for now and will transition to Spring later as well!

  • carolbee replied 11 years ago

Thats a great haul. I can't imagin ever finding this much in one go and at deep discount! BTW you seem to have a fab wardrobe (as in cupboard,).

  • Mona replied 11 years ago

Thanks for sharing your haul with us. Both the sweaters from Espirit are gorgeous. I can't wait to see these on you.

Get finds Shannon! I'm sure these will freshen up your wardrobe, and I look forward to seeing the in action.

Love the metallics and the bomber. Fun refresh :) cant wait to see styled...

Everything is great to wear right now. Love the b&w jacket, the grey skinnies and the green cashmere pullover. They provide warmth but have a Spring feel too them.

And the accessories from Value Village are season-spanners of course.

I love your finds. I am smitten with the jacket and the green sweater and there is not one thing that doesn't look perfect for you (but I want to see them on!). Just the things to put some fresh energy into the rest of winter!

  • Thistle replied 11 years ago

What a haul! Tis will inject some pep into your winter wardrobe!

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

Thanks everyone - I'm excited about each and every one of these items and am looking forward to showing them to you.

Hmmm...I think I posted on Angie's blog post about bomber jackets that I would not be participating in this trend and that it was not a style for me.....oh well...just goes to show, you never know!

  • amiable replied 11 years ago

Fantastic! What great finds! I'm glad you had fun!

  • cheryl replied 11 years ago

Shannon, if I didn't know better I would think you went shopping for me. ;) I really love every single item especially that first sweater. Sounds like a fantastic day with the family. Shopping, family, food, fun and football. Doesn't get much better than that. :)

  • ironkurtin replied 11 years ago

That'll get you through to spring. All very you!

  • Tina.b replied 11 years ago

What a great collection of items Shannon, you did so well! I'm looking forward to seeing you put these together with the rest of the wardrobe. I hear you about surviving the rest of the winter.

The green cashmere sweater I have an almost identical one from J. Crew and it is one of my top five fav pieces in my closet. Mine is a bit more blue but it is the same sweatshirt style and such soft cashmere. In fact I loved it so much I had to buy it in two other colours. Can't wait to see you wearing it!

I am living through the 80's again. In a good way! Great haul, have fun!

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

Amiable & Cheryl - who would have thought shopping with my son, husband and mother-in-law would be fun?!

IK - "all very you" - hopefully, that's a good thing!

Tina - this is the first cashmere piece I have EVER puchased. I want to sleep in this sweater it feels so lovely against the skin.

Rita - it is all rather 80's isn't it?

  • Aida replied 11 years ago

GOOD haul Shannon! All good mix and match options, and will go with lots of your other wardrobe pieces already. I think the jacket, sweater, and jeans will feel particularly refreshing due to the lighter/brighter colors. I love my gray skinny jeans so much that I have TWO pairs and would like a third (and this from a gal who's trying to move to Team Trouser)! They are a super option when you want lightness, but not blue. And cheerful sweaters are such a big winter boost. I also bought two colorful sweaters in those end-of-winter sales and am thrilled to have them.
