Last Minute Invite (Pics Added @ bottom)

Best friends of hubby and I just called to say they won in a work Christmas raffle last night a dinner for four at a fairly swanky restaurant for tonight and would love for us to join them. How sweet!

Hubby and I are busy with a fair bit of running around today and normally a last minute invite like this would throw me into a tizzy due to lack of a true dressy capsule and lack of time to do anything about it. But not this time :)

In probably less than 5 minutes I put together this outfit - my dark red EF dress topped with my sparkly open knit dramatic hi-lo cardigan. Love how the dark red peeks through the open weave in the sleeves and body of the cardigan.

I will wear nude hose and my animal print Cole Haan pumps, carry a vintage gold clutch (it was my grandmother's). I'll add my michael kors gold mesh bangle for jewellery. Red specs and bold red lip will be the finishing touches.

Over top of everything when I head out the door will be my berry coloured cashmere coat. It is delightfully mild here right now and since we'll just be walking from house to car to restaurant, this will be plenty warm.

I hope this will come across as festive. It is such a relief to be able to shop my small wardrobe.

Hey Lisa - dinner is at Hy's. Haven't been there in a few years. Do you think the outfit is ok for the venue?

  • replied 9 years ago

Absolutely!  Perfect in fact . Have a great time!

Fantastic... Both how it looks (are we going to see pics on you?) and how easy it was to pull together. Have fun!

How lovely of your friends:)  Shannon give your wardrobe a big hug from me lol.  It's working so well for you.  Your outfit looks fabulous.   I think EF is to you what Metalicus is to me. Have a fab night, kick back and relax.

What a nice invitation! And how satisfying to quickly and easily put together a perfect outfit for the occasion. I love the touches of gold in your clutch and shoes. Have a wonderful time!

  • Beth Ann replied 9 years ago

Love the mixed metallics and the red focus.  The leopard pumps echo the gold touches.

It's especially nice to get to share a formal event with close friends -- it will make it much more fun!

Just got back from a lovely dinner and evening with good friends - doesn't get much better than that does it? :)

Snapped a couple of pics before changing into pi's to watch a movie with hubby and have a cup of tea.

I ended up going with semi sheer dark hose instead of nude hose - not only did I stick my thumb through the nude hose while getting dressed but they felt too "light" with the rest of the outfit. I hope the darker hose look ok.

I was really, really pleased with how the outfit not only looked, but felt. I was extremely comfortable and didn't fuss with my outfit at all - which left me able to fully enjoy the company I was in and our conversation throughout the evening. I particularly liked how the red peeked through the glittery cardigan and how the mesh of the bracelet and ring mimicked the pattern of the cardigan.

I got a wonderful compliment from my friend Debi who said "I love that you never look like anyone else in the room". Way back when, I would have taken that type of comment in a negative way, now I see that as a positive thing and I know that's how she meant it.

I'm glad I didn't purge these Cole Haan pumps. I don't think I could wear them for a full day at work anymore but they are more than comfortable enough for a couple of hours, especially when most of that time is sitting.

Hope the outfit looks as good on as it did laying on the floor :)

  • Suz replied 9 years ago

Gorgeous festive outfit, Shannon. Love the red coat and what a treat to see it. Also, animal print pumps are brilliant with the red. Absolutely the right touch, and great you did not purge them!

  • Deborah replied 9 years ago

Thanks for adding the photos. You look gorgoues. The outfit works perfectly. And what a lovely compliment.

  • Jaime replied 9 years ago

Ha what a treat to see this after you already added the shots of you wearing it. Love the outfit, love your attitude!

  • Transcona Shannon replied 9 years ago

Suz - I'm so glad I bought this red coat last year. It's the perfect weight for anything less than minus 20 and the cashmere blend fabric is so beautiful. Yay for a Winner's find!

Deborah - thank you so much. I really did feel quite pretty in this and I will admit that I liked wearing colour out instead of just black - lol!

    Shevia - :)

Very nice Shannon.  I think the metallic of the sweater and interesting hem make it a perfect holiday outfit.  We went to Hy's for my son's birthday last year.  The food was very good.

  • Beth Ann replied 9 years ago

Even better than on the bed!  You look beautiful, Shannon.  You've been working hard and you deserve a night out.

  • JenniferAnne replied 9 years ago

I was hoping you'd post pics wearing the outfit! It looks fantastic!

  • Joy replied 9 years ago

Your outfit looks even better than I imagined it from the ensemble. Just perfect. You look festive and dressy but comfortable.

  • Runcarla replied 9 years ago

Glad to see the red coat in action. (I'm still kicking myself that I let that one get away!). Great, elegant outfit.

  • Caro in Oz replied 9 years ago

Agreing with Joy - it looks even better on & the tights look great. Glad you had fun. Nice compliment too :)

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 9 years ago

Beautiful outfit! All of the elements are so complementary. The amount of shine and sparkle is just right. Glad it worked out well and you had a good time.

  • Peri replied 9 years ago

    I particularly love the coat...gorgeous!

  • thimblelina replied 9 years ago

So lovely! It all works together so well.

  • deb replied 9 years ago

What a festive outfit and I love your ring.

Killer combination, especially from the side. I love the animal print pumps with the look, especially. GORGEOUS. xo
