EF Leather & Lambswool Jacket - thoughts?

One of Angie's picks from NAS 2014 was this Eileen Fisher leather sleeve lambswool jacket http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/ei.....etite/3728. I have loved it from the moment I saw it but even with NAS pricing (combined with Nordstrom shipping and customs), it was too rich for my blood.

However,
my eBay seller has sent me a message that she has one available in
Petite Medium and would I be interested. Yes...she and I now have that kind of relationship :) The price is more than affordable and hubby has given the thumbs up.

So my question to you wise wonderful women - is this something you could see me in or do I just have EF "love goggles" on? And if you think it's worth trying, is the Petite Medium the right size? I know that it runs large (as do most EF items in my experience). For reference my EF dresses are all Petite Medium.

Yay = worth trying
Nay = not right for me

I was on the fence until I saw the detail on the back. Holy moly!  Gorgeous - go for it!  That back detail will reign in the volume and give you a nice combination of tailored and relaxed. Do you have enough to wear under neath that will work with the brown knit body of the jacket? That is brown, right?

This is a gorgeous piece.  I would not recommend if the seller didn't have a petite, as the torso and the sleeves both seem long, but a petite tends to fit you well.   My only remaining question is whether the brown here is lively enough -- I like a rich, cool brown and this seems rather flat on my monitor.  It could well be my monitor though --- any comments in reviews on the color?

I think it goes well with your style.  Does the color work with other items in your wardrobe?

Lisa & Beth Ann - you are right about it being brown. The color is actually called Peat but let's face it - it's brown. And it's not a rich brown nor a color I would normally wear. But with the black leather sleeves, I think it would work. I'm picturing it over a column of black or even over my dark red EF dress.

    Thumbs up. xo

Angie - would you say the Petite Medium would be the right size based on the dress size I wear in EF?

Go fer it! It's a beautiful piece. And those olivey-browns lend themselves to color manipulation with a scarf or a blouse I fell.

Yes. the petite Med should fit.

I really like it (and it's a rare EF item that works for me, since I generally prefer more structure) -- I got it and have worn it only a few times so far, but it's a cold-weather piece and we've only had so much cold weather so far. I like the mix of brown and black.

I think it runs fairly big. Mine is (oddly enough) an XS, and I normally wear a 6 or 8 in jackets. I could have taken a S or an XS, but the SA agreed with me that the slightly less voluminous XS worked better on me, without making the sleeves too short. But keep in mind that I'm narrow across the back, and I prefer my fits a bit more structured/tailored.

Love it. I'm not a fan of too much drape, but I did try this one on in person and loved it. It fit super super big and they didn't have an xxs in stock but otherwise I would have been very tempted to bring it home with me. Will the greeny-brown work for you? I think there was a grey version too. Pretty sure you'll love it :)

love this. and i love the thougth of this over  a column of black, and i'd also love to see it over a column of white! fab!

Stunning! I love the jacket and I feel confident this would look fab on you. My only question is about the tone of the brown? I know you can wear the deep dark chocolate browns, this is a softer tone. Hmmm as I ruminate on this, wondering if this would work over a tonal dark red??

  • rachylou replied 9 years ago

I saw that jacket and really loved it, but I had (and have) a plethora of leather-sleeved items...

Would look fab with black and red. Love it!

You know the one thing I didn't think of and just popped into my head - is it itchy? I'm wondering about the wool around my neck...for those of you who own it (Janet) and those who have tried it/seen it IRL (jackie and Rachy) - is it itchy wool or soft wool?

Deborah - I hear you on the shade of brown. It gives me a bit of pause as well to be honest. But I'm strangely attracted to the color at the same time - it's different for me. I think it would work with black and my dark red EF dress. And in Shannon's world, all colors (except beige) can be fixed with red lipstick!

Thanks for the feedback - I do appreciate all comments :)

I don't mind the shade of brown and really like the shape and detail on the back.  My only reservation would be the cost of cleaning.  I have had leather items cleaned and they are very expensive.  I suspect it would cost at least $40 but probably more to have it cleaned.  Is that acceptable?  If so, I think it would work with your reds and would probably be great with blues too.

The peat color looks like a dark taupe with a touch of olive. I can see you wearing this with a column of black like the model, or with your dark tulip items or any red and even dark teal. It's worth a try. I have yet to find a scratchy piece in the EF line.

I think it would be fine to try and you may love  it.

If you are asking does it jump out at me as your style and fit, I'd say no, and I'd even not go that color route, if given other EF options.

I hope you have ordered by now!

Why not? You have a cardigan which is a workhorse, right?
Does your seller have a good return policy? If so - go for it! EF  has been a godsend for you recently and I am sure this one won't be an exception.
