K/R: NAS Part 2 - Houndstooth Blouse (ETA new stylings)

I do find Nordstrom's delivery a bit confusing - I ordered the VC striped banded tee, Elliot Lucca handbag, VC sweater blazer and Maggy London dress at the same time. I've received the sweater blazer and handbag, but not the tee or dress. And then today I've received the VC houndstooth blouse, which was shipped two days later than the first order...strange, but whatever.

Anyway, here's the Vince Camuto houndstooth blouse in petite. The sleeves are slightly long so I have cuffed them once. Otherwise I think the fit is spot on. I've popped it on with the Reitman's dark red jeans I recently bought (waving hi to jeans twin Mona!) for a quick styling. The jeans are long with these shoes, but you get the idea. Apologies for the no make up and messy hair - DS, DH and I have all come down with strep throat and are feeling under the weather. Good thing I'm off work this week.

What's the verdict on the blouse? Fit and style good? I can picture it with various trousers, pencil skirts, even semi tucked with BF jeans.

I LOVE that shirt on you. And, if that is what you look like when you are not feeling well, then you'll be a knockout when you get your sparkle back!

  • Kirti replied 11 years ago

It looks amazing on you Shannon! :-) hope your family feels better soon.

  • texstyle replied 11 years ago

I'm just not loving this blouse Shannon. I don't see it as flattering as so many other things I see you wearing. Maybe I don't like it with the red pants. Too much going on? I don't know. I can see it is very sheer - I can see your skin, so it gives even more lines. Then again, I'm not always crazy about the whole "buttoned up to the neck" look so I may just have the poisoned eye for this.

  • Suz replied 11 years ago

I really like it, Shannon. It seems so "you" in every way. I can just see it with your black midi and Doc Marcies or the Saras....

So sorry you are not feeling well. It sucks to be sick on your vacation.

  • rae replied 11 years ago

Love it, Shannon! Get well soon... my boss was just out with strep, and I am SO trying hard not to get it. Hopefully those other items arrive soon to make you feel better. :)

  • CocoLion replied 11 years ago

Thumbs way up from me on both the blouse and the jeans!

  • Jamie replied 11 years ago

I think it's great on you! I love it with the red, and like you, I can see this with so many other items/outfits.

  • replied 11 years ago

Everything looks great Shannon. I think you have 100% batting average thus far. I hope you feel better soon.

  • Makrame replied 11 years ago

I think I am with texstyle on not loving the blouse (or the buttoned-up look, for that matter). That said, I also agree with Gaylene - you look great, in spite of strep throat.

  • JR replied 11 years ago

I love the blouse on you, but I think it would be best worn with a camisole, to eliminate those horizontal lines, or at least a beige bra. I personally try to match my camis to my pants, not the blouse, to create the slimming effect of the column of colour. The match doesn't have to be precise, especially if it doesn't show, but close enough to eliminate the horizontal line at the waist.

I almost bought those jeans myself, but the only size left was one size too small, and I was afraid that even when I reach my goal weight, they might still be too tight at the waist. So I left them, despite my love of red. Oh well, got some rust twills instead...

  • Scarlet replied 11 years ago

The fit looks good and it sounds like you have lots of ideas how to wear it, so I would say thumbs up!

  • catgirl replied 11 years ago

I'm with texstyle and Makrame - maybe it's the styling with the red pants that are throwing my eye off. I'd like the buttoned-up look better with a skirt. I'm not sure I'd love this blouse in general though - it seems a bit like pajamas to me.

You look great for someone with strep!

  • Kate replied 11 years ago

I love the red pants on you Shannon; they look great. The shirt I'm not such a big fan of. That's a lot of houndstooth and I'm with Una in thinking that it looks like a pyjama top. I've already had my pyjama bottom experience with the Vince C. tile print pants, so perhaps this is uppermost in my mind.

  • Inge replied 11 years ago

We are shirt twins, Shannon!-) Obviously I have seen this blouse irl, and it really does look great, not pyjama-esque at all.
I think it looks wonderful on you, love the cheeky playful vibe of the buttoned-up look, and you can use it in so many different outfits. I vote keep!

  • Jem replied 11 years ago

I love the blouse! I think you will be able to wear it lots of ways and you look good in black. You have been doing really well with your NAS purchases! Sorry you are sick!!! And, hopefully you will get some more fun mail soon!

  • catgirl replied 11 years ago

Okay, after seeing Inge style this blouse I'd like to see it styled before making a call, though I think the majority vote is for keeping!

  • Janet replied 11 years ago

I like both items on you.

I bought this blouse too, and haven't posted pics for feedback yet, but for me, I'm envisioning different styling -- I'll probably wear it with top buttons open, and I have a feeling it will be a good candidate for tucking for me as well. I'm also thinking this is going to get layered under my various leather jackets (emerald green, cobalt blue, etc). It's interesting to see that most of you who ordered this blouse style it buttoned up and untucked.

  • Inge replied 11 years ago

I love your styling ideas, Janet. And I've already worn mine with the top buttons unbuttoned and tucked into boyfriend jeans > just to confirm that it really is a versatile piece.

  • Sylvie replied 11 years ago

I like it on you. This is a definite keep (envious - it was horrid on me)

  • Glory replied 11 years ago

I like it on you and think it can work with many items in your wardrobe.

  • Glory replied 11 years ago

Also love the jeans - I was in Reitmans today and did not see them.... can't trust myself to go back in there for awhile :)

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

    Thanks for all the responses!

I do agree that a cami needs to be added and maybe the pairing with the red jeans isn't the right way to showcase the blouse. I've added a few more styling pics at the top - I do know that styling an item a certain way can sway a keep or return.

As far as fit goes, it's good though, yes?

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

    shamelessly bumping for Angie's input...

  • annagybe replied 11 years ago

Love it with the pink blazer.

  • catgirl replied 11 years ago

Okay, I feel %1,000 better about it now! I'm so unimaginative.

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

Thanks Anna! My MIL loves this combo!

Una - why would you say you're unimaginative?

  • Isabel replied 11 years ago

I love the blouse too. The pink is a different color for you but is really, really pretty on you. I prefer the blouse with one unbuttoned button. It is really versatile.

Regarding the shipping, Nordstrom ships from individual stores. So one store may not have all of your items. The items arrive at different times because they come from different places and different people pack them at different rates and so on.

  • Janet replied 11 years ago

Yep, pink blazer is a winner with this! And the Doc Sara's are a natural partner. I like it tucked, and I like it with leather. Keep, please!

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

Isabel - thank you so much for the shipping explanation. Of course now it makes perfect sense. I bought this pink blazer shopping with Dianthus and we both fell in love with the colour.

    Thanks Janet!

  • Sveta replied 11 years ago

Shannon, I think it has a potential. It looks much more proportional when it is longer (I am still mourning that I have to return mine!)
Have you tried a semi-tuck with it? I really liked how Inge modeled it today.

  • Jyoti replied 11 years ago

I'm not sure about the top. I think it looks dated to my eye, which is weird because it's combining two current trends-- contrast trim buttondowns and houndstooth. I do think its the combination that I am not totally feeling. Too much going on! Perhaps try a solid contrast trim buttondown OR a more plain houndstooth top?

However, I think the fit is totally fine and if you like the top, that's the most important thing! <3

  • Jaime replied 11 years ago

Love - I think this blouse has been my favorite pick as seen on lucky NAS shoppers!

  • MNsara replied 11 years ago

I think the blouse fit is pretty fab (well except maybe for the sleeves - if you're turning back one cuff length). and I love it in general, but not necessarily left out with the red jeans.

I really love it when tucked into the black skirt with the fab new flats of yours :-)

I also love it when part of it is covered with a jacket.

So maybe I'm one of those who can't take the 'full'dose' of such bold houndstooth. . . ?

But I think you'll still have lots of wearing option and it IS a great blouse :-)

P.S. Enjoy it for me too because VC must've presumed I'd have thin upper arms :-(

  • Tina replied 11 years ago

Shannon, you are such a trooper posting while feeling poorly. I really like this blouse on you and have total confidence that you will wear and enjoy this piece. You have a good eye for clothes and if you were drawn to this and it fits, you will wear it. I like both stylings, tucked and untucked. I think it would look good with your wit & wisdom skinnies as well. I'm sure once the weather cools off you will think of more ways to style it.

  • Debbie replied 11 years ago

I am totally copying these outfits as soon as my blouse comes. You are going to get so much use out of this piece.

  • Kirti replied 11 years ago

    Shannon, I LOOOOVE it styled!

  • Deborah replied 11 years ago

Ooh Shannon I fought site of your post this morning but didn't have time to comment. I adore this blouse and while I have questioned it on others (i think its the same one) it looks perfect on you. I prefer it buttoned to the top and I think all your styling options here work. Great choice!

  • Mona replied 11 years ago

Shannon, I love the blouse. I would totally buy it if my budget allowed me for any more clothes shopping and Yaayyyyyyy! for the red pants.

  • harmonica replied 11 years ago

This shirt was made for you, Shannon!

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

Thanks everyone - tags are coming off and it's being put into my "wear when fall arrives" closet.

  • Angie replied 11 years ago

I love the blouse, Shannon! (Well. I have one too so of course I love it).

I would alter the length of the sleeve. It's worth it.

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

Will do Angie! I'm actually amassing quite a collection of items for Wonder Woman and will add this to the pile.

  • Angie replied 11 years ago

Thanks for taking the suggestion to heart, Shannon. The shorter sleeve length will make a big difference! Your date with Wonder Women is near.

  • catgirl replied 11 years ago

Shannon, I said I have no imagination because I should have been able to picture this styled and looking fab on you... Like paper dolls, never played with those either. :)
