K/R: Are these my black booties? (ETA decision made @ bottom)

Went shopping with my MIL today and had in the back of my mind that should I come across the right black booties to replace my beyond-repair Blowfish black booties, I would bite.

We have a new Michael Kors store in one of our local malls (very dangerous...) and I saw the SA putting these in the window for their new fall display. They just arrived today and I was the first customer to try them on (do I get a discount for being first???).

These are incredibly comfortable, high quality boots. They are smooth black leather in the front and then snakeskin embossed black leather in the back. I absolutely LOVE the gold zipper on the outside. IMHO the boots are the perfect mix of refined and a bit rugged. I have no doubt they will work with pants so wanted to show them to you with a skirt since I wear skirts and dresses more than pants. I don't want a lot of bling or detail to take away from the sleekness of the boot so in that respect, these are perfect. Even though the heel is 2.5 inches, the footbed is so comfortable and the angle of the foot subtle enough that having walked around in the house with them on for almost an hour has not bothered my knee at all. My only hesitation is the height of the shaft - my Blowfish booties that I'm replacing are more like shooties, in that they only came to my ankle bone. Do I need to replace with an exact like style?

I am heavily leaning towards keeping these but want to make sure they look good to your eye and that they work with my style. So keep or return? (Gain thinks I should buy them based on the bag!)

I'm also showing you the taupe suede Toms booties that hubby suggested I buy. Aren't they fab? (I know they don't go with the outfit but wanted to show you the booties).

I have a sugar eye for both the styles so I am a yes gal

  • unfrumped replied 10 years ago

The MK's are a gorgeous boot, but I'm no help because I prefer that style with pants. For skirts I like more of a sleek shootie look.
The taupe booties are fab--hard to find the color and a comfy wedge.

  • Vicki replied 10 years ago

You've sold me on these and I vote to keep, because they are comfortable, have the right amount of non-bling and the pretty gold zipper and replacing doesn't always have to be exact (shaft height).

They look lovely on you and the leather is beautiful.  You're not going to hear me suggesting you take them back.  Instead, I say, find room in your closet.

Love your new wedge Tom's and is kitty comparing color with the new suede booties?  What is it about cats and bags?  Born shoppers, perhaps?!

    They look gorgeous!

Those are gorgeous booties!  I really think that the heels are much closer to 3" than 2.5", however; the Toms seem more like 2.5" to me.  (Can you tell I study heel heights a lot?)  However, the bottom line is how they feel to YOUR feet, knees, and back.  Your trim ankles are trim for quite a ways up, and I think the height of the shaft balances the height of the heel so I wouldn't worry.  Besides, isn't a higher shaft better for your climate?

I realize I was pretty much selling you the MK boots via my raving about them. However please don't let that sway you. I only want the right items in my closet so if you don't think these are my style or look good on, please say so :)

Love the boots they remind me of mine that I picked up this past winter -- a keeper. Are you finding it odd to unzip your boots on the outside? I realized belatedly after I bought mine that I'm used to having the zipper on the inside (sometimes I would put my boot on the wrong foot :-p )

  • texstyle replied 10 years ago

These are beautiful and look like exactly what you said you wanted, so if they are truly comfortable and won't cause pain after a few hours of wearing, I say big KEEP!  Love the taupe wedge booties too. May I ask what brand those are?

    Cute kitty.

Those booties need to be in my life.

  • AviaMariah replied 10 years ago

I haven't gotten used to this higher shaft with dresses on myself. But, I think this is a preference and if you are happy with it then you should keep them.  They are beautiful boots and obviously make you happy!!

    Gain is so funny!

I LOVE the booties. They're like a sleeker, uptown version of the DVs that Una and I bought last year. (And those in turn were a Rag and Bone copy, I believe.). I worry a bit about the comfort but that is probably mere projection on my part because the footbed of those DVs is pretty hard. But if comfort is there, then keep!

Love the taupe ones, too. But you knew I would say that.

    I absolutely adore them.

  • Diana replied 10 years ago

They're beautiful!  As long as they are comfy, I think they're a keeper.

    Gorgeous booties.

And wait, I forgot to put the TOMS on my list of wardrobe holes....

  • Sveta replied 10 years ago

I think they work with the skirts because of the heel. Also you will be wearing them with black hose, don't you? If your knee can manage the heel height and they are comfortable then go for them!
Toms look like fun too - and Gain is adorable. Isn't it funny how cats adore boxes and bags?

  • shedev replied 10 years ago

I think these are perfect for your style. I don't really think they need to be an exact match unless that really bothers you.

  • deb replied 10 years ago

Oh yes! You must have these!

  • rae replied 10 years ago

I guess my question would be whether these are different enough in function from the Marcies. Only bringing it up because I thought you wanted a bootie (lower shaft) for some reason... though my memory is not the best. They are very pretty boots!

  • Deborah replied 10 years ago

Yes, I would ask the same question as Rae. I think these booties are divine! But I think they would function much like your Marcie's, so I would view them as a bit of a duplication. I also thought you were looking for something a little different, I.e. lower shaft creating a slightly different look, particularly for skirts. I'm still a little stuck on the Nine West booties you showed us in an earlier thread (sorry token going back to them).

    Love the taupe booties!

  • Jjsloane replied 10 years ago

They are amazing and if you buy 10 more pairs of black booties so what. These are super duper cool and gorgeous. I like the Tom's too. Off to put both in imaginary shopping carts.

  • Suz replied 10 years ago

In my own mind, these are very different from the Marcies. The Marcies are far less refined and much more funky, plus the shaft is higher. They're a laceup wedge; that's different from an exposed zipper heel with snakeskin. To me, at least, LOL! Can you tell my bootie collection threatens to get out of control?

  • ManidipaM replied 10 years ago

Beeyoooteeful! Both boots. Good question from Rse though!

  • Parsley replied 10 years ago

Ooh, those are gorgeous! I think they're totally different from the Marcie's, and I think they'll work beautifully with your wardrobe.

If they're honestly comfortable, I vote KEEP!

  • Transcona Shannon replied 10 years ago

DV - it does feel weird for the zipper to be on the outside, doesn't it?

Text style - the taupe booties are Toms.

Suz - the comfort issue is a bit of a concern. The footbed is not quite as cushioned as I would like.

Rae and Deborah - I love that you get to the tough stuff! I did start out looking for lower shaft sleeker booties. I tried on several today at The Bay and although many were comfy none of them excited me. Maybe I really need to think about whether I want to be more refined or not. I definitely see your point about the Marcie duplication.

Jeanne - I can only buy one pair of black booties this year so they need to be the right pair although I totally agree with you in principle!

    Anna - thank you :)

  • Susie replied 10 years ago

I also think that these are a totally different look than the Doc's. I think they are gorgeous and if the heel will work for you, comfort wise I mean, because I think it will look great, then I definitely vote keep!

I tried the Toms summer boot and liked it so I'm tempted by this one.

  • nancylee replied 10 years ago

Wowza!  These are off-the-charts gorgeous....and perfect for you!  KEEP!

  • ironkurtin replied 10 years ago

I'm going to spanner. They are gorgeous, but I'm not sure they work against bare legs with skirts because of the slight gap at the ankle. Would you wear them as in the pic? I think you need darker legs for a smooth line.

  • jayne replied 10 years ago

I like the wide look of the boot, but that is a deliberate choice for me cuz it makes my legs look more slender.  So I am a YES, keep!

  • Transcona Shannon replied 10 years ago

Well I've decided there's just enough doubt about these boots to warrant returning them and continuing my search. If I'm going to spend that amount of money they need to be perfect. Thanks for the helpful feedback everyone...onward :)

  • cobaltblue replied 10 years ago

These are really lovely, but I think you are right to keep looking for now, keeping these in mind. But I only say this because you can only add one black bootie this season! PPP.
