WIW: Trying to be cheery

Still missing Gain like crazy and the house doesn't seem the same. So I made a conscious decision to dress in cheery colours to help me feel better.

Today's outfit started with my cobalt blue pencil skirt. I added a multi coloured tank in an abstract pattern and then topped that with my white denim jacket, with scrunched sleeves. For footwear, I went with my comfy bone/silver sandal shoes and for my handbag, am debuting my new coral/watermelon coloured satchel. I actually bought this yesterday from the hospital gift shop - it was in the window and the colour just spoke to me. For non leather, the quality is quite excellent. It's a fun piece to add for the summer. For accessories, I chose my purple/clear specs and my silver/taupe wrap watch.

It actually does help to dress in happy colours. There is nothing new or cutting edge in this outfit - does it still look current? What do you think? Does it all work together? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

Jacket: Brody Jeans (thrifted)
Tank & skirt: Cleo Petite
Shoes: Fugitive
Watch: Fossil

It looks happy and bright. Good armour when dealing with sadness. Hope your day goes as well as you look.

I'm so sorry about your kitty. The house does indeed feel empty and lonely when a beloved pet dies.

Your attempt to look cheery was a great success. Cobalt is gorgeous on you, and I love the floral shirt and white jacket. I have a similar white denim jacket and feel kind of uplifted every time I slip it on.

I think Im missing Gain too.  You look lovely and the colours are a great idea for when we feel a bit down.  I think this is still a very current look and that cobalt skirt always looks amazing.

Shannon, you definitely look bright and cheery. I'm so sorry you're feeling low, and I don't wonder a bit about it.

You definitely look cheery.  It's hard to put on fun colours when you're feeling blah, don't you find?  I also just read your post about Gain, so sorry.

    How is your foot?

  • Meredith replied 9 years ago

It's a beautiful outfit.  So sorry about the loss of your furry friend.

The pop of orange is quite a fresh choice, and the shoes are so flattering on you, and quite current, with the color and the ankle strap.  This isn't the same "urban modern" of your EF dress, perhaps, but it certainly looks right for 2014.

I hope you find little comforts throughout your day, Shannon.

Oh no, this is the first time I am hearing of your loss.  This is so hard!  I'll be thinking of you all day.

On to the outfit -- this is crisp, pretty and to me, very Angie!  So of course I think it's chic.  I don't think it's dated at all.  The pieces (denim jacket, pencil skirt) are classics but the fit and proportions look modern, with the top peeking underneath.  And the shoes are very on trend and flattering.  I love those shoes!!!

Oh Shannon, I almost missed your post about Gain. Such awful news-((( It is just so extremely tough and sad to have to say goodbye to a beloved pet-(((

Your outfit today is beautiful. I love this skirt on you, and the bright coloured top and fab bag work wonderfully with it. The crisp white denim jacket is the perfect touch for Spring.

    Hang in there sweet lady!

First off, more hugs to you!! I totally agree on how wearing cheerful clothing really does help. The outfit looks perfectly current, especially with those cool shoes. And I love all the bits of orange this outfit has, not sure if it was on purpose but it is sweet :)

  • MsLuna replied 9 years ago

You look lovely, Shannon! I love the shirt/blouse colours and how you picked up the cobalt and white from it. The watermelon satchel is adorable. This is a great way to liven things up in an otherwise sad day! Sending you more hugs!

  • Transcona Shannon replied 9 years ago

Thank you all so much. You are all such warm and caring people and I truly appreciate it ;)

And you know what? Cheery colours really do help today and a few people commented on how nice I looked in bright colours. I didn't feel cutting edge but I still felt stylish and well put together.

And then I came home to find that Dusty Bottom has done really well today on his own and greeted me with furry little kisses. I think we're all going to be ok :)

  • Aubergine replied 9 years ago

Oh, so sorry to hear that.

I love the outfit. Looks plenty current to me! And such a beautiful and summery color combination.
