WIW: Shabby Denim

Today's ensemble is one that I think works - I'm learning to work with my Shabby Apple skirt and am really starting to like it. I've paired my skirt with a yellow tee and my faded cropped denim jacket. For footwear, I'm wearing my Aerosole two-tone oxford sandals, have added my orange handbag for more colour and have popped on a pink and brown beaded bracelet.

So what do you think? Did I get this one right? Proportions and colours ok? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

Jacket: thrifted
Tee: thrifted
Skirt: Shabby Apple
Shoes: Aerosoles
Handbag: Danier Leather (thrifted)
Bracelet: thrifted

Yes, you definitely got this one right. This is what I meant in the white denim thread. I find the slightly shorter length is just a bit more flattering on your petite proportions. I love the yellow top with the yellow skirt. Soft yellow and blue is a gorgeous color combination too. The neutral shoe gives great line to the leg and the pop of color works.

    Great outfit Shannon.

Yes, I think this works very well:) I like that the skirt and T-shirt read like a dress. And your crop jacket is just the right length. You could add a slim belt it you wanted but you don't 'need' it. The sandals are perfect, not too matchy, but they match (if that makes any sense) and the addition of the bag adds that extra pop of color that I think creates a sense of fun. Great outfit! Im guessing this might rate high on your happiness scale too? Have a great day at work.

This is a big 10 for perfection! I especially love the sandals and bag with this outfit. Where did you get that sweet denim jacket?

  • harmonica replied 11 years ago

Yes, this is a great outfit! I love the silhouette and the fun colors and pattern. Faded denim with yellow is just fab and the orange bag makes it perfect by adding a bright eye catcher!

It looks PERFECT to me! I'm so glad you and that skirt are starting to figure one another out.

I love blue and yellow together. You look like sunshine in a blue sky.

This looks great! I love that skirt and am impressed with how you've finally figured out a way to work with it.

This whole outfit just makes me happy. So cheerful and fun on you!

I like the way the tan swirls on the dress are echoed in the tan trim on the shoes. Likewise, I appreciate the tie in between your bag and similar tones on the dress.

  • Jjsloane replied 11 years ago

This is the best look yet for this skirt. You've honed it down just right.

  • Kirti replied 11 years ago

I love it! The faded blue and yellow together are to die for :D

  • rae replied 11 years ago

Oh, YES! You got it right! I love these happy colors and the way the neutral elements make it feel down to earth and easy. So glad this skirt is earning its keep!

  • citygirldc replied 11 years ago

You look great and the dress perfectly fits you.

Shannon, you look spectacular! I adore that bag!! (Another brilliant thrifting find, sigh...) and the yellow with the faded denim is superb. Also, your hair is making me want to chop mine shorter so I can also spike. Maybe I'll go that route for summer.

    This outfit is a 10!

You should really start your own lookfab blog, Shannon. That way I can pin your outfits.

You hit it out of the park! Please excuse the baseball analogy but I am watching every Giants game I can! I love the faded denim jacket with the dressy skirt and I keep debating whether I should try to obtain a pair of those sweet Aerosoles!

  • Vicki replied 11 years ago

Shannon, this works in all categories and you most definitely got it right. I've just made a copy shot for inspiration, because I love the colors.

  • texstyle replied 11 years ago

Love everything about this and the colors and style look wonderful on you!

  • goldenpig replied 11 years ago

Shannon hits it out of the park! Love everything about this outfit--that wonderful skirt, the yellow tee (makes it look like a dress), cropped faded denim, the yummy orange handbag that matches the leaves in the skirt and the bracelet with pink, orange and red accents. Everything ties in with each other, which is what I attempt to do with my outfits too.

I agree with Angie, you really should start your blog too! Love and adore your style!

Y'all sure know how to make a gal feel good on a dreay Tuesday morning! Thank you all so much. I'm much relieved that I can make this skirt work - it was definitely a challenge (as you all know)!

Angie - will look into starting my lookfab blog. I'm somewhat technically challenged!

  • Angie replied 11 years ago

I am too. But the lookfab blogs are SO EASY it's mind blowing. Start one :). Then I can pin your outfits!

  • goldenpig replied 11 years ago

I agree with Angie. I would never have started one if it hadn't been for Greg and YLF blog option. It's as easy as clicking a checkbox to add your post to your blog!

You need to put this picture on your phone, and compare every jacket you ever try on to the perfection that is this jacket!

  • Ginny replied 11 years ago

Great outfit, love the colors, and the denim jacket is awesome on you!! You SO got this one right, :-)

  • christieanne replied 11 years ago

The skirt really soars with this combination - the yellow top makes it like a tonal column and the pretty pattern gets to stand out. Perfection achieved!

  • replied 11 years ago

All of your hard work has paid off, Shannon! This is perfect, and perhaps what you saw in your mind's eye when you ordered the skirt in the first place? The similar colored shirt works really well with the high waist of the skirt and the denim jacket looks awesome to add some style contrast. I like your idea of the saturated orange bag to pump the color up a bit and the bracelet's tie-in to the skirts print and colors is the sort of thing that would make me smile all day. Of course the shoes are super-fab as well! I hope you have a wonderful day, knowing how great you look!

  • Kiwichik replied 11 years ago

    Proportions & colours perfect!

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

Kiki - fab idea to have a picture of this jacket with me!

Claire - this skirt has actually been the toughest clothing item for me to figure out.

Angie - look fab blog is up and running! You were right - even easy for me!

  • Beth Ann replied 11 years ago

Lovely look, Shannon. Love the idea of keeping the tonal similarity in skirt and top -- this takes care of the "highwaist" issue, and creates an elongating effect while highlighting the print.

  • CocoLion replied 11 years ago

This has got to be one of your best Shannon!

I love yellow, it is my favorite color this season, with all the shades of coral coming second.

  • Sona replied 11 years ago

TS: really like how you are playing with the skirt. Just a question: does the denim topper work in your work environment?. I suspect since you are on the business side rather than clinical side the answer is yes?
    I so envy you.
    :)

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

Sona - yes, I'm on the administrative side so we're allowed denim toppers at any time and jeans on Fridays - as long as they aren't ripped, to low rise or too tight.

Thanks Denise - I never used to wear yellow, thinking it was not a good colour on me. But I'm changing my mind!

Thanks Beth Ann - finding the perfect yellow tee has completely dealt with the overly high waist. Thank goodness!

  • Jonesy replied 11 years ago

Perfect! You have tamed this bucking bronco of a skirt!

  • ManidipaM replied 11 years ago

That is beautifully done, that's what it is!

Loved the yellow top with the skirt when you were experimenting and love the denim topper for that summery combination of soft yellow and softened indigo! The shoes are perfect with this --- the brown edges seem to curve just like the birds' tail, and I love that subtle echo. The bag is such a fun pop of colour, really updating the look from retro to modern retro, and then the bracelet is the inspired finishing touch --- edgier shapes in the perfect colours.

This is FANTASTIC! Love everything about it!
