WIW: Lace, Stripes and Patent Leather

I've been wearing my new Kate Spade cobalt pumps around the house a bit since I got them last week just to make sure they're comfortable before I wear them for a whole day at work. Today they're coming out to play!

I've paired the shoes with my sleeveless blue crochet dress (the one Wonder Woman had remade for me) and my Banana Republic blue/white striped knit jacket. My office is very strange in the summer - ice cold in the morning and very warm in the afternoon so layering is essential. To break up the blue I've added my Kelly green handbag. No jewelry today - I just wanted the pieces to stand on their own.

Does this outfit work? Proportions ok? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

Jacket: Banana Republic (thrifted)
Dress: Moon
Shoes: Kate Spade
Handbag: Cleo (thrifted)

TS: I'm loving the outfit as shown in #3 paired with the jacket and bag. No jewelry needed , the accessories 'shine'!

What a gorgeous dress amd I love that you wear it to work:). Tnis is a clever pairing of pieces Shannon. I would never think to wear the striped jacket with a lace dress but it looks beautiful. The shoes look pretty good too. #3 is just stunning with everything working so well together. Bet you feel fab today.

Looks beautiful teamed together! What a smart way to wear that very dressy dress! I want a striped jacket or cardi so badly!

Oh my goodness, I love this look on you! Quite elegant!

I love that dress on you! With the shoes, it is perfect. I also think it looks great with the jacket. The bag is great but sort of distracting me from dress and shoes, both of which I love. Did I mention that?

Ohmygoodness awesomeness! LOVE, love, love this, Shannon! Very clever pattern mixing indeed *and* great tonal dressing too. I think this is one of your best ever!

You look fresh and beautiful. My goodness your workmates are lucky folks!

Great final version! I love the pumps and dress alone but the light blazer and bright bag really bring this outfit into spring perfectly.

Thanks Sona, Deborah, Meredith, Alicat, Shevia, Manidipa, Suz, and Rita!

Deborah/Meredith - this dress is pretty "dressy" for work but pairing it with a more casual topper (this striped knit jacket, denim jacket, etc.) can bring it down enough for work wear. I'm glad you think I got it right!

What an inspired combination! Love the lace dress and of course the cobalt pumps. #1/2 looks great for an evening out, but I love how everything pulls together in #3! The jacket and bag do dress it down just enough for work. Now you have me wondering if I can somehow make my B44 black lace dress work appropriate.

It is official, I am green wit envy with how great you look everyday!
The dress, the jacket( and you were wondering about this one), everything looks so good.

I blazer-ize by dressier dresses too... Awesome combination.

  • Angie replied 11 years ago

    I WANT THAT DRESS.

    *fanning myself*

Need to recover from your sizzling fabness...

  • Jonesy replied 11 years ago

Immaculate! Very inspiring combination! Just gorgeous on you, and the new pumps are the icing on the cake.

Stunning. I'm with Angie on wanting that dress! I love how you styled it - hope those shoes go the distance for you today.

Beyond love! If this outfit were a celeb, I'd be the crazy stalker following it about and sending it desperate letters. The striped jacket and pop of green make the dress feel so springy, yet I also know it works great in the cooler months. Pretty amazing feat.

great dress, love it !!!! so glad those awesome shoes are comfy for a whole day. The stripes is the perfect addition!!

  • nancylee replied 11 years ago

I think this looks great! I never would have considered pairing a lace dress with a striped blazer, but it really works. And that green purse just sets the outfit on fire.

You are such a bold experimenter....and it pays off!
(note to self to experiment more.....:)

Perfectly pretty. What a gorgeous dress & the new pumps are perfect with it.

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

I'm so pleased you all think the striped knit jacket works with the dress! With a more casual topper this dress can see more wear which makes me happy because it's one of my favourite pieces!

Wow Angie - thank you so much. You're making me blush...

Natalie - what if you popped a denim jacket and more casual sandals on with your black lace dress? That might work to bring down the dressiness factor.

    Celia - you're so sweet!

Zapotee - I think you just coined a new fashion phrase..."blazerize"! Love it.

Thanks Jonesy, Jeanne, Ginny, Nancylee and Kiwi!

Rae - lol "if this outfit were a celeb"....I'm starting to really love and appreciate items that can transition into different seasons.

It's quite the edge wearring a lace dress to work, you did it so fab with the stripes and the greens/cobalts. Love it!

  • DragonflyJane replied 11 years ago

    I'm swooning - it's gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous!!

  • catgirl replied 11 years ago

OMG, the dress! That color is magic on you. It reminds me of my orange crochet dress from Anthro with that trim showing at the bottom.

  • AJ replied 11 years ago

Lace, stripes, and brights are such a FAB combination here, TS!! This is so fun and feminine! Luv it!

  • christieanne replied 11 years ago

Love that a dressy dress got to come out on a "normal" day. And if you are invited out to cocktails, just de-blazerize and you are ready. Loving that new term and wil be integrating into my wardrobe vocabulary!

Very fun and stunning outfit - really making items versatile and looking oh so fantastic in the execution.

  • biscuitsmom replied 11 years ago

    LOVE! So great!

  • nicoleb replied 11 years ago

BEAUTIFUL dress! You look great in those colors!

And my office is the same way. Until they blast us with a/c that is.

  • Aida replied 11 years ago

Now THAT is a lace dress I can get behind! I am with Angie, I SO want that dress!! Love the matchy-ish pumps and the bright lip is my favorite bit.

  • Sara L. replied 11 years ago

What a great dress! And the color looks great on you. My office is the same way - cold in the mornings, hot in the afternoons.

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago
