WIW: Blush, black & a bit of animal

This Zara blush asymmetrical jacket hasn't been worn very much - I think it's the colour. I love this jacket and was thrilled when I found it at the thrift store with new tags still attached. The quality is lovely and the wool blend non itchy. I love the asymmetrical style with the back ruching and how it can be worn fully done up, partially done up, or undone - changing up the style each way. But the colour is "iffy" for me. I can't wear beige as it is truly soul sucking for me but this is more blush.

I popped this jacket overtop my simple black sheath dress with sheer black hose. I chose my animal print pumps for some pattern and visual interest and decided to be unexpected in my handbag choice and went with my quilted red leather bag. Love blush and red together.

Jewelry is my gold wedding band and my rose gold/black watch.

So what do you think? does this jacket deserve to stay in my closet or is the colour not working for me? And what is your opinion of the entire outfit? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

Blazer: Zara (thrifted)
Dress: Banana Republic
Shoes: Cole Haan
Handbag: Nine West (thrifted)
Watch: Fossil (eBay)

    Ummm you already wearing pumps???
I like this jacket on you. Why not give it a spin with the Angie's pastel formula Shannon?
If you still don't like it, off it goes

Very nice, no soul sucking there....just a comment on your makeup post, your face looks absolutly radient.

Not "soul sucking" at all Shannon. I think that blush jacket is quite lovely on you. It has a little bit of a retro vibe to it. Love it paired with the animal print heels and red bag. You look beautiful.

This is not soul sucking beige, in my opinion. This is rosy beige, which can actually work well on cool-toned skin. I think you look lovely! And yes, Ramya -- I'll bet she is wearing her boots for the commute!

I think that's a good color on you Shannon. I love the red bag and animal print shoes with this outfit. Gorgeous as always :)

  • Sona replied 10 years ago

Rosy beige as Suz has said. YLF.

From what I can see on my monitor this blush is flattering and I love it paired with the red bag and black dress.

Seems flattering to me, and I particularly love how you paired it with red bag and lipstick, but I know what you mean. I'm on the fence about this color myself -- but I think it's because I relate it in my head with my grandmother and mother, who both wear this color a lot.

If you decide that the color is not for you, don't give away that jacket. Since it was thrifted, it'd be worth trying to dye it.

Beautiful jacket!  And you look polished and professional as always.  If you are not loving the look, perhaps try it with a lighter colored or patterned bottom?

I really like this outfit. The blush jacket looks great with black and on you. It is an interesting style too. Every time I see those leopard pumps, I want to steal them.

You look very pretty and ladylike!  I really like the blush jacket with your new makeup.  The red bag is a fun touch - sort of an early homage to Valentines' day with the pink jacket.  Lovely.

Well I guess I'm the outlier - I don't love the color, and I feel the jacket is a wee bit big on you... But I am clearly the minority vote. Love your radiant face which reminds me I need a new regime!

I like the jacket on you.  I'm sure you've done a lot of experimenting with it but I think pairing it with some unexpected colors could make it more exciting to you.  It seems like Angie has done quite a few posts about combining blush in unexpected ways.

I'm a fan of this outfit, hope you wear it again. I haven't seen a jacket quite like this, the details are fun. I think it goes well with the new make up.

Ramya - do not fear - I wore my snow boots outside and changed into my pumps when I got into the office :)

Una - I think you and I feel the same way about this jacket. I'm liking it less and less as the day continues. I feel kind of "blah" in it.

    Thanks for the feedback ladies.

I think this looks good Shannon but not as fab as some of your other outfits. It feels more retro than you've been wearing lately. Have you tried the jacket with white jeans - something to lift it a little?

  • Transcona Shannon replied 10 years ago

Caro I think you've hit on an important point. I have no problem with wearing all black or black/navy combinations. But something about this blush with black seems heavier and "dowdy" to me.

  • MsMary replied 10 years ago

I'm not super loving the jacket.  I'm kind of over all those heavy-handed details like the big lapels and peplum and shirring and asymmetrical buttons.  (I have a L.A.M.B. jacket that's got a lot of the same details that I'm about to send to the donation pile, I think.)

That said, the color is fine on you, if not, perhaps, one of your very best colors.

  • Runcarla replied 10 years ago

Sorry, Shannon :-(. Not a fan of the tailoring of the jacket.

Love your shoes though, and of course you are looking super fresh!

I must admit I'm not that crazy about the jacket. I think the color is OK, but the jacket's got a lot going on - buttons, ruching, peplum, etc. I do like the outfit as a whole, though - and the red bag is gorgeous.

  • Missey replied 10 years ago

You are gorgeous as always but the jacket just doesn't do much to accentuate your loveliness, I fear.

  • goldenpig replied 10 years ago

It's a nice change of pace, but I have to admit it's not my favorite color on you. Maybe it would have been better over white rather than black. I feel like with your coloring and hair, you look better in more high contrast and saturated shades. I don't mind ruffles and peplum myself, it's more the color that is bothering me.

  • Transcona Shannon replied 10 years ago

Well I have one GIANT thank you to give out - in reading your comments, looking at the pics again, and taking into account how I felt in this jacket today, it is now in the donation bag.

It's funny - two years ago this jacket would have been a main piece in my wardrobe - it has interesting details and a retro vibe. But that's not me anymore. I am in a phase of my style journey where I'm liking sharper lines, better fit, higher contrast and more edge.

    :)
