WIW: Angie's ankle strap formula

I knew when I read Angie's blog post on how to wear ankle length pants with ankle strap footwear (http://youlookfab.com/2013/09/.....rap-shoes/) that I would need to give this a "go". I had already purchased these pieces but hadn't thought about rolling the hem of the pants until I saw Angie's beautiful outfit.

I started today's outfit with these recently purchased black-on-black patterned/textured silky pants. I love how these are only slightly slouchy as I'm kind of over wearing the super slouchy look (on me anyway) and how the texture makes the pants more interesting than just plain black. They are full length with a bit of scrunch normally but as per the formula, I rolled them twice to create ankle length. I then added my new ankle strap black and white heels. They are 2 inches so quite comfortable for my knee and because the two box doesn't cut across where my bunion is and is quite wide for a somewhat pointy toe, EXTREMELY comfortable! I then added my pink knit pullover for some bright colour contrast and my snakeskin print oversized clutch. Jewelry is my gold wedding band and my rose gold/black watch.

Have I demonstrated the ankle strap formula correctly here? Does it all work together? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

P.S. Happiness scale? Sky high :)

Love the shoes! The pants I am unsure about rolled -- the roll seems a bit bulky and the pants too fluid? I don't know. I like the pattern on them and the drape. You look great in that colour pink.

You've inspired me to try this out with my Doc sandals, maybe tomorrow :)

Ceit - is it possible the way the roll meets the ankle strap looks like one big roll in the pic? When I walk you see a tiny bit of skin between the shoe and pant hem.

  • replied 10 years ago

I am sure it is the photo instead of seeing them in motion. I also think your roll is softer and less crisp than Angie's, but I think that is because her trousers weren't silky like yours.

Where did you get the shoes? I have a bunion, too. Do those shoes come in a wide width?

As for the overall look, I think it's very good, though I personally would wear slimmer-legged pants. Still, you pulled it off well. Good job! :)

I think you look fab Shannon. I do get Ceit's point though about the roll though. You could try a gentle iron to 'set' the roll.

Love! I am so pinning you.

And oh, Shannon -- my pointy toed gold shoes came from RW&Co this spring! They off-gassed like crazy and they are not at all padded on the footbed, but the toe shape is SUPER comfortable, I agree. How are the heel backs on these? They look awfully high?

I did a wee outfit tweak when I got into the office - I actually added one more roll to the pants which seems to have "flattened" out the bulkiness since it covered the actual hem a bit better. Plus it shows a bit more of the ankle strap on the shoe. Much better IMHO.

The pants are not as slim as Angie's version and they are silkier but in her formula I think there is room for variation on the type of pants. I'm fine with this "Shannon version".

Diane - I don't think I'd want to iron the roll to set it because then when I want to wear the pants full length, I will have to iron them again to get that crease out, you know?

Ruth - the shoes are from RW & Co - surprisingly comfy. They don't come in wide widths but my feet border on wide so these might work for you.

Suz - these shoes have no off gas odor (thank goodness!) and they do have a reasonably decent amount of foot padding. Yes, the back is HIGH but I'm lucky in that I have very little shape and definition in my heel (part of the reason why many shoes slip off my heel) and I think that works for me with these. I did add a wee bit of moleskin to the inside of the back top just because they rubbed a bit. But I've already run up to the Labour Floor twice and am totally impressed with the comfort - not a problem spot anywhere now.

Great to know, Shannon! I might check them out myself. I would adore the Okalas but felt that a backless pump was sort of stupid in our climate -- I just wouldn't wear them except in summer.

  • Transcona Shannon replied 10 years ago

Suz - they also had them in a snakeskin print.

I love everything about this outfit, but most of all, I love the happy smile on your face.    Here's a woman who is beautiful, and knows it!

I think I'm going to have to try and copycat this look this weekend!

I nearly cried when I saw those polka-dot shoes aren't available in my size.    Then I saw the taupe and fell in love!   I may order them tonight, if I still feel the same way in 12 hours :)

I am wondering, for those of you who have tried the RW&Co. - do they run true to size?  How much do they stretch over time?  I am between a 6 and a 6.5, but closer to a 6.

  • shedev replied 10 years ago

Very cute look Shannon, I especially like the pattern on the pants.

I think you did a spectacular job with this formula.  And I am in LOVE with the shade of pink of that sweater.  I must check out Sears!

  • Von replied 10 years ago

I love those shoes, and the sale price is nice!  I love the pop of pink with everything else.

  • Sara L. replied 10 years ago

I was going to suggest that the pants seemed a tiny bit long, but I see you've already rolled them again, so problem solved. I love, love, love those shoes!

  • Joy replied 10 years ago

This is a great Angie inspired look. You look wonderful!

  • Transcona Shannon replied 10 years ago

La Belle - you are so sweet :) This is my first time buying shoes from RW & Co but I did find them to be true to size. I consistently wear a 6.5 and that's what these are. Can't speak to how much they stretch or if they wear well though - only time will tell!

Thanks Shedev, AviaMariah, Von, Sara and Joy :)

BTW I discovered something significant with these shoes. I love the look of pumps and a pointier toe but even if the toe box is wide enough to accommodate my bunion, I often find pumps uncomfortable because as I walk my foot wants to slide forward which then crams my toes into the point - ouch! But because these shoes have the ankle strap, my foot stays in place while I walk and presto! EXTREME comfort. My piggie toes are very happy today :)

Ooh, La!  Love the pink and textured pants together!  This is amazing.  The only thing I would suggest, you already did --another roll to the hem!

Off to check out those shoes......

  • Marley replied 10 years ago

Wow Shannon - that color of pink is beautiful on you!  I love this outfit - the texture on the slacks is such a nice touch - and those shoes - I die!  Gorgeous!

  • JulieJohn replied 10 years ago

Ack! Fantastic! Those shoes are "teh bomb" . I have been looking for a pink top just that shade, and the slinky pants, well, it's like they were made for you. I'm gushing, ok, I know. May I just say that clutch is also exceptional? Whew.

I love the kitty whiskers off to the side, what an accessory!

  • MsMary replied 10 years ago

This is fab! I definitely have a pair of ankle strap shoes on my list for fall!

  • Lyn D. replied 10 years ago

Gorgeous Shannon. Love the shoes, and can imagine that the hint of ankle and the strap look great IRL.

  • Karie replied 10 years ago

    Great outfit - fabulous shoes!

  • Jjsloane replied 10 years ago

I love it. Great proportions for you and totally modern and retro all at once.

  • replied 10 years ago

My happiness is high just looking at this.  That pink with black is perfect.  I wasn't too interested in the ankle strap shoes because though I really love the look I figured the strap would be lost under pants/jeans.  I didn't want limited wear-ability.  This is a great solution.

Beautiful, Shannon! Really beautiful! This outfit is a complete smash, out of the park, awesome home run. Love the texture, love the color, love the shape. It is all perfect.  Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to go open up that picture again and revel in your gorgeousness!

  • Mo replied 10 years ago

Love, love, love those shoes.  I can understand why you have a high happiness factor here!

  • Jaime replied 10 years ago

Love! Pink top + those shoes = gorgeous.
