Playing with my new boyfriend... (ETA update on Sung's)

....jeans, that is!

I've decided to keep the Gap BF jeans and challenge myself to learn a new style. I'll consider it a fun adventure! Besides, I'm now committed to keeping them since I cut off the tags as well as two inches of excess fabric at the hem. I've tried my first attempt at pegging (thank you for the link Anna!) - haven't quite got it right I don't think, but I'll get it figured out.

These are a few first go's at how to style these jeans. Because we have such tremendous heat during the summer, these will not be worn until September rolls around. I have other ideas I want to try, but let's start with these.

Please let me know which ones you think work and which ones don't - and why those ones don't. I'll be very curious to see if your choices match mine. Would love your insight - thanks!

P.S. Sorry for the lack of a cami in pics #9/10 - I will obviously wear one when I got out in this sweater!

BTW - remember the Alfred Sung BF jeans in the lighter wash? Well, I couldn't find the receipt anywhere and tried to return them but was declined. Well, no biggie as I had only ended up paying $14 with a 30% sale. So I've hacked off the legs and they are now a fabulous pair of lighter wash BF shorts!

Ok, I can't get past how awesome #1 is!! I will keep looking, but I might need those shoes! Those are super awesome with the BF jeans.

Love 8 in particular, but they all look really good, what fun! I hear you on the crushing heat -- the only thing that lets me wear mine is the punishing A/C.

I think you will have a great time working them into your wardrobe -- I see a couple looks I want to try and recreate with some of my pieces!

ETA -- ok I scrutinized them again -- I don't think the booties in the last 2 pics work as nicely as the other shoes you chose. Something about the loose boot and loose leg fights -- I know that is how they styled them on the Gap site but I thought that looked off there too.

#7 and #8 are my favorites. In fact that's how I'm wear them. You could also try to your leopard booties with those toppers.

    1-3 LOVE!
4 - I don't love this one. Something reads off to me like the top would go better with sleeker jeans or a skirt. I can't quite put my finger on it.
    5 LOVE!
    6-8 LOVE!
9-10 - The top works great with the jeans but I'm not loving those booties with the jeans near as much as I like the loafers or the black booties. The same top with the black booties would be awesome.

Maybe the blue ones would be better if the jeans were lower where the top of the bootie was covered. Though... I think those booties would be fine to me with a skirt. I can't really articulate why I don't love them in this combo.

You've put together some really cool combinations here. It's amazing to me how one pair of Jeans can give a slew of tops a whole new vibe. You have given me some really good inspiration for when mine get here. You really rock these and I'm so glad you decided to keep.

Yay! I love #1 and #6, but all the looks have great potential. Like your attitude in #1 too, you look like you're waiting for Fonzie outside the malt shop. Dig it!

Your new boyfriend is so lucky. Most boyfriends don't get to see that much action in one afternoon.

  • Echo replied 11 years ago

Well done! I LOVE looks 5, 6 and 8! I am so glad you have decided to keep these fantastic jeans!

  • Traci replied 11 years ago

#4 is my hands down favorite! I also really love them with the leopard docs.

  • merwoman replied 11 years ago

    Now that's how it's done...stylin the BF!
    LOVE #8, then 5 and 1.

  • catgirl replied 11 years ago

Shannon, what was it you were agonizing about? I find it hard to remember, looking at these fab stylings. You are going to live in these now, I promise you.

#7 & #8 speak to my heart. But others here have different favorites. That tells you how versatile these really are!

    No looking back now.

I really like the red blazer with these! The longer jacket makes the rise of the jeans look a little lower, plus the structured and feminine piece is a great balance to the manly jeans. You look like you are having a lot of fun with this style. :)

I am curious to see the new version of the Sungs, too!

Dying. What the HECK were you so worried about???!?!? :)

I have a pair of leopard oxfords on my wish list, along with a plain leather pair. I'm so ready to pull the trigger on them after seeing similar styles here with your BFs.

Whew! So glad I'm not completely off the mark with these ideas. Thank you so much for the feedback.

It's always so interesting to read all the differing opinions. I learn so much from all of you. I like the length I have the jeans rolled to here with the two pairs of Docs, but am wondering if they should be a little longer with the Docs boots? I also think a substantial shoe with a heel is key for these being successful for me.

JulieJohn - you made me laugh out loud with your "so much action in one afternoon" comment - too funny!

Una - I think you might be right. I think I might end up loving these after all!

  • catgirl replied 11 years ago

Just to add, another reason I feel these are brilliant is that the wash makes them seem a bit slouchier than they might actually be - like an optical illusion. So you don't need all the extra fabric and accompanying insecurity. A lighter wash doesn't have that same effect.

I can't rave enough about these on you, Ceit, and everyone else who has been rocking them.

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

I agree Una - the wash makes ALL the difference! And get this - hubby likes them! I thought for sure he wouldn't, but he thinks they looks really cool with my Docs. He actually suggested I look for an oversized white button down to wear with them - who knew!

  • Kari replied 11 years ago

Wow. Shannon, I'd like to nominate you for a YLF award for jumping full on into this trend and being so willing to experiment!

#8 really speaks to me. I think I would like #4 better in a different context-without the pants rolled and with the blazer left open-but I think that combination of items has a lot of potential.

Can you hear me applauding you all the way in Seattle? 'Cause I am!

  • ManidipaM replied 11 years ago

Whoa! That first outfit...! O.O Well, there goes my old theory that BFs work best with a feminine top. Huh. This is outrageously good-looking. (PS: You have been told you're a dead ringer for Jamie Lee Curtis, right?)

And #7 puts paid to my 'not with tanks, I don't think' instinct too! Apparently it only needs the right tank. ::genuflecting in gratitude for the lesson::

I like all the other looks too, especially the striped tops and open jacket (and esp #5 and #6) --- but I'm in the minority of those doubtful of the blue booties at the end. I wonder if it's the daintiness of the heel that is bothering me.

  • Diana replied 11 years ago

I like 1, 7, and 8. The jeans are fantastic with the Docs, but I'm also not sure about them with the blue booties. I think I prefer BF jeans in general with chunky shoes (like platforms - you don't happen to have any of those, do you?)

  • AJ replied 11 years ago

I'm swooning over the preppy vibes of 5 and 6!

  • Jjsloane replied 11 years ago

Great looks! Good for you. I particularly like 5, 6, and 8. I think the belt is crucial with a semituck and the size you have on and some fun pattern is great. Congratulations you have worked for it, but made it happen.

  • krishnidoux replied 11 years ago

7 -10 are my favourites, in particular 7!

  • Deborah replied 11 years ago

Shannon this is what I was hoping to see/). You have made this look your own. #7 & #8 look fab and take me back to the 80's:). I find the feminine tops balance out what I view as the masculine stylings of the BF jeans creating a very nice look.

  • Mo replied 11 years ago

#5 and #8 are the winners for me. Great jeans!

  • Suz replied 11 years ago

There you go! It's the sexy boyfriend look - of COURSE your darling husband likes it!

  • citygirldc replied 11 years ago

Wow. love those BF jeans and you do the outfits well. I may have to get me a pair. My faves are 5, 7, 8. With a bf jeans I feel like you need a closer fitting top, but that's just me.

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

Thanks Kari, Manidipa, Diana, AJ, Jeanne, krishnidoux, Deborah, Mo, Suz and DC! Your positive comments will help fuel my creative juices. Going to keep playing with these!
