EF Cardigan Revealed

A while back, I posted about this Eileen Fisher drapey cardigan I fell in love with (http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....me-in-this) and there were some questions as to whether this was an item that could work with my style - valid questions as this is definitely a different kind of piece for me.

It arrived yesterday but in our home frenzy, I didn't even have a chance to try it on until just now. First of all, the eBay seller I bought this from was stellar and I can't believe the price I got this cardigan for, which was still in its original package with price tag on.

The merino wool is extremely soft and lightweight but I can tell the sweater will have some warmth to it when the cold months arrive. I'm intending on using it for both dressier outfits at work and with jeans/tees for casual.

I've quickly done a few stylings of the sweater over top my black sheath dress and with my Doc Martens Marcie boots, one of my favourite pair of boots to wear with dresses in the winter.

The sweater fits beautifully (Petite Large). I could have probably gone with a Petite Medium but I like that there is room for me to layer over top a thicker and sleeved under layer so I'm fine with that. I am showing it both loose, with a wide belt (might be better with a thinner belt) and crossed over and pinned with a vintage brooch so that it resembles a cowl neck sweater over the dress.

To say I love this sweater would be an understatement. It is soft, comfy, warm and versatile. Stepping outside your comfort zone can sometimes be a bit empowering. I'm definitely keeping it - but will admit, I'm still curious about what you think.

Over to you ladies...

I didn't get a chance to comment on your first thread, Shannon, but I was a yay vote from the get-go:-)
I think it really suits your style persona, the details are arty, the colour is beautiful, I can just tell from the photos that it is super soft and cosy, and I love the ways you have styled it here. A keeper for sure.

Terrific, Shannon! I love the way it resembles a tail coat in the back. It looks incredibly cosy and soft. And how pretty with the retro brooch! A winner, for sure. I now want the ID for this seller so I can be on the lookout for items from this person!

Wow! It is fantastic with the belt.  I'm with Suz on wanting to know :)

Suz and pil - here's the link to the seller I got the sweater from. She's got some beautiful clothing. Her shipping was reasonably priced and fairly quick, but she has a good return policy. FYI the sweater's new price tag is $228 and I paid $69.99 plus shipping. Fab IMO!

This is perfect for you in every way!

I love it in every way you styled it! But especially with the brooch. It's really a beautiful piece.

I like the sweater and think it will be a fun addition when it gets colder.  It's has an interesting shape that could really change up the silhouette of certain outfits.

Beautifully drapey and fun to play with.  I would love to see it with jeans, or leggings - do you ever wear those?  Would look god with the boots...

  • Sylvie replied 10 years ago

Love the cardigan pinned with the brooch.

Also you wear skirts and short boots so well.  Your calves look very shapely and the overall look is fun and relaxed but stylish.

Don't you love eBay?    One gal's NWT mistake, is another gal's super-awesome cardigan for a fraction of the retail price!    I like this, it has shades of a being a frock coat.  Very Valmont or steampunk, if you ever want to really costume it up :)

Oh, you can tell how luscious the wool is from the photos. I love the cut and fit for you, the color is perfection and I don't see it as a deviation from your style at all (maybe I don't know you as well as I think)! Yes, I'd say it's a keeper. It looks like the first thing I'd pack for a trip--no, I'd probably wear it on the trip! Very versatile methinks.

You look lively in most everything. I could see how the soft drapey idea is very cozy and different, but I have to say I'm not feelin' the love for this item as opposed to so many other things. That said, power to the people--it's good to try different things. I might like it better over slim pants--not sure it's shown to best advantage with the skirt, so certainly try various stylings to see its potential.

Lovely on you!!  I really like it and you have it styled well.  So glad it worked!!

You know I love it - relaxed, arty & fab.

Clearly I need a life because I have been logging on daily hoping your cardigan had arrived:). Shannon, this looks great. Being petite I was particularly interested as to how the cardigan fitted at the back...it looks perfect. I think this is a fab addition to your wardrobe and perhaps brings an elegant eclectic / arty element(?) to your wardrobe. I think you are going to be able to wear this with so many combos...enjoy...your look gorgeous:)

  • modgrl replied 10 years ago

I love all of your stylings!!

PS- what happened to "I'm done?" I am in the same boat!! I just got a dress to replace my twinnie dress and the turquoise halogen seamed skirt because my old one is wearing out....

  • velvetychocolate replied 10 years ago

It's beautiful Shannon - you did well with this one! Can't wait to see it in fall/winter with slim white or pale blue jeans as a "Casual on the Go" outfit. Also think it will look gorgeous with a lot of your work/dressier clothing as well!

  • Transcona Shannon replied 10 years ago

Nicole - I don't wear leggings but maybe with skinny jeans tucked into knee high boots in the winter?

unfrumped - I really appreciate your honest feedback and will work hard to prove I can work this item into my style :)

Deborah - logging in daily you say? Too funny!

Rita - the "I'm done" referred to my summer wardrobe. This sweater I purchased strictly thinking of fall and winter. Let's face it - I'll find ANY reason to shop - lol!

VC - love the idea of it paired with slim white jeans.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. In a strange way, I feel like this EF cardigan fills a bit of the arty/edgy item I was looking for when I tried the Helmut Lang dress a month or two ago (although definitely more on the arty side).
