WIW: White & Brown

TGIF!!!

Today's outfit is a pairing of white denim clams, brown with white polka dots silk-blend blouse with a frill down the front, my brown Clarks sandals that are at least 4 years old, white watch for jewelry and my green handbag for a pop of colour.

Although chocolate brown and crisp white is one of my all time favourite colour combinations, I'm not sure brown near my face does me any favours. This blouse was thrifted in my April thrift haul but I"m wondering if it's a keep or re-thrift item. What do you think?

As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

Clams: Reitmans
Blouse: Nygard (thrifted)
Watch: thrifted
Sandals: Clarks
Handbag: Cleo (thrifted)

The brown almost reads as black on my screen, Shannon, so I might not be the best judge of colour here, but I think the blouse looks good against your skin. The white polka dots also help to break up the colour, that always helps too, I think?
Love the crisp feel your white clams and watch bring to this outfit, and the green bag would make me smile too. Love it all!

I love this and the sheerness of the blouse makes gives a breezy look. The green bag makes a huge difference to the outfit!

Shannon I really like this blouse on you and it looks black on my screen so it must be a very dark brown? Perhaps a short necklace in the neckline could give a lift and soften the brown for you. Something g white or cream (pearls?) or some other necklace with some color.

It looks good to me, but also more black than brown. Only thought is a slightly longer black cami or maybe even a white one?

So sorry that the brown blouse is reading so dark in the photos - it is a fairly dark chocolate brown (espresso?) colour.

Inge - I do agree that the polka dots help to break up the expanse of brown. I don't think solid dark brown would be great on my upper body.

Shevia - I originally tried a white cami under this blouse but the blouse is too sheer and it looked positively awful under the brown. The black one I'm wearing I do have to keep tugging down. It is long enough if it would stay put!

    Thanks Harmonica, Deborah and Deedee!

    Cute, yet sophisticated.

    Fun, yet elegant.

    Modern, yet retro.

    Relaxed, yet pulled together.

    Polished.

How can this outfit not be a 10.

You look lovely in this deep brown when mixed with white, Shannon!

Well gosh - thanks Angie! How is the length of my clams? I kept looking at them this morning saying to myself "wonder if these are Angie approved length" (lol)!

  • Angie replied 11 years ago

The clams are at a perfect length for your height. Love them.

    *sigh of relief*

The white dots soften the brown a lot - I think the whole thing looks great! You have a great sandal wardrobe.

Don't you dare re-thrift that blouse! It's perfect on you. The color is deep and rich enough to look great with your coloring, and the print keeps it from being boring. I love this outfit!

I think you look great! The blouse looks summery and lovely to me.

I love the deep espresso brown on you! Very rich looking and the white dots and sheerness play off the white clams really well. A perfect outfit!

I love the clams and watch! Bag and shoes are fab too. I have a poison eye towards ruffles these days it seems so I am one of the few that would say to re-thrift the blouse, but I am in a minority. Can I say again just how flattering those clams are on you? I could see them being your #1 summer workhorse, as I think they will go with almost any top.

Thanks Rae, Claire, Jonesy, Sarah, Meredith & Denise!

Denise - glad to hear you think the clams are a good fit. I find the length can be tricky when you're short with short legs.

I love the blouse too, I like that it is sheer, it keeps it from being too heavy and I love this color combo on you!! great job!!
