WIW: Tunic Dress & Footless Leggings

Today's outfit started with this graphic tunic/dress. Since my husband's hours were cut back some time ago, we've been pinching our pennies a wee bit and so when wanting to add a new piece to my closet, it's been through thrifting or deep sales. The "Tiffany glass" Cleo dress was one thrift find and this graphic, swingy tunic is another.

This is not normally a shape I would wear due to my ample bottom half but the added structure of a blazer and jacket works wonder to give me more shape.

Paired with the black/white tunic and my black suit blazer, I've added Calvin Klein footless leggings for leg coverage. I'm in LOVE with these things! They are extremely comfortable with a nice wide waistband (no rolling), have more warmth factor than hose and the reason I wanted footless is because I can't stand the usual seam on hose and tights around my toes. Drives me nuts. This way, I can wear my soft and cozy socks and pop on these leggings over top.

I've added my black/white specs, black leather satchel handbag and my blue/purple suede booties to finish off the outfit.

What do you think? does it all work together? as always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

A good find...you nailed styling this with the jacket for structure. Love the print and footless tights are great!

Well, of course it works! You look great, Shannon. Back to your "old" self. But modernized. Stay toasty warm, girl!

Great tunic - love the graphic pattern with the splash of blue! You are a pro at making thrift finds look current Shannon.

Great work-day outfit that can easily go glam too with some jewellery and heels. Good find!  And I love it with the purple boots : that is what makes the outfit as I see it :)

Great outfit and it looks like it would be warm and cozy!

This is the only way I like leggings, and that is because they look like tights with a dress. I was about to ask what is the difference then but now I get it...footless, regular socks, that's a huge plus. And are they warmer than tights?

I will tell my sister, she was looking for good leggings!

Tracey - I consider you the Queen of Thrifting so coming from you, that is high praise :)

Suz - it's funny how we seem to come full circle in our style, isn't it? But hopefully it's in a current way.

Shevia - oh believe me, I've purchased my fair share of thrift "duds"!

Lisa - I first had on my black booties and was kinda "meh" and then put on the purple booties and said "oh yeah, much better". Never ceases to amaze me how small tweaks can make a big difference.

Robidi - it is indeed warm and cozy.

Peri - I do find these leggings much warmer and significantly more comfortable. They weren't cheap though so I hope they hold up.

Graphic and gorgeous. Amazing find! I love the blue booties as well. They really pull in the blue from the dress.

I think this dress looks fab on you. Not sure what about it balances out top and bottom, but it does. Maybe the bold pattern?

I swear, this outfit was made for you. Love the pattern on the dress and you look put together from head to toe. Those booties are so cute.

No brains for winterizing  a dress for me so how ca I not  LOVE it! And love the blue booties with it, it's more special than a black one!!

    Oh yeah, this is great!

So many "tunics" are just barely butt-grazing on me, so I have little luck with this kind of pairing, but I see it's looking terrific on you.

Graphic b/w prints always add energy with sophistication, so you've started off well there.  The lovely fit in the blazer, and the pop of purple adds a lot to the look.  Wear again, definitely!

Thanks for the 411 on the leggings.  I have good tights, but all my leggings are from WalMart.  Maybe time for an upgrade?

I clicked on your photo on the front page of the YLF forum just because I thought you looked so awesome! This is one of the best outfits I've seen on anybody in a long time, and I want to copy the whole thing! You look just great, yet comfortable.

The blue booties are such a fun, unexpected touch. This, together with the beautiful pattern of the frock, makes me smile big time. A fantastic look, Shannon. And hurrah for those footless leggings.

Love the booties.  I agree that leggings are much more comfortable than tights.  I like to have control over my socks.

Now you need to pop this outfit on Pinterest because I couldn't find any 'grown up' versions of tunic/dress over tights / leggings after I read your post on this yesterday:)

Lovely!  That tunic is gorgeous and the way you have put this together is perfect.  You look extremely fab.

  • Meredith replied 9 years ago

Ooh, I want to copy this look. PS, sometimes I wear socks over my tights and I don't notice the seam as much.

  • Sara L. replied 9 years ago

You look great and I love the blue booties! Great tip on the leggings. I'm going to look for some after Xmas, when I can shop for myself again. All my tights seem more uncomfortable this winter than in past years and I'm looking for some new options.

Nice job with winterizing the tunic! This is a great outfit, a wonderful way to wear leggings, and you look terrific in it.
