WIW: Trying to Stay Warm in Spring

Hello....Mother Nature??? You know it's Spring, right?

Today I woke up to a temperature of -32 C (with windchill). That's just NOT RIGHT in April! So today's outfit revolves around dressing for warmth. I started with my black sheath dress and added my polka dot tights for leg coverage. I added even more leg coverage by popping on my knee high Blondo boots. Over top of my dress for some colour, I've put on my two-tone magenta and purple tipped Halogen sweater blazer. I've also added a purple belt to accent my waistline. Jewelry is my silver watch and wedding band and my handbag is my slouchy Christopher Kon.

This isn't the most exciting outfit I've ever worn, but it's comfortable, warm and still put together. What do you think? Does it all work together? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

Sweater: Halogen
Dress: Banana Republic
Tights: Hue
Boots: Blondo
Belt: Quicksilver (thrifted)
Handbag: Christopher Kon (consignment)

Cozy...and still a hit of colour.  Never, surrender TShannon!

DH and I were nearly in tears when we got 10 cm of snow on Sunday.  Thank goodness for all wheel drive.  We've given up on the driveway.  There just isn't any place to put the snow anymore.

Oh no-(( I feel like crying just thinking about -32 °C. Only last week I was so sick of our "cold" weather (around 0 °C), so I feel for you, Shannon. Hang in there, Spring is bound to appear sooner than later, right.

I think this is a fab outfit for the continued cold weather. The purple and magenta add some happy colour, and the polka dot hose some extra fun. Love the dress with your tall boots. And your smile is, as always, a super fab accessory.

Also: I don't think I've ever mentioned this, but I love the extra photo you always add of the day's accessories. The close-ups are great to see them in more detail.

You look great Shannon! I am sorry Spring just doesn't want to arrive! How demoralising.

Oh dear! My sympathy indeed. Good thing you have your winter duds out still! You are looking great.

-32!!!!  Oh you poor thing :(
But you look great!  The pop of colour says "you can't beat me"!  Love that jacket.

FFBO in my opinion for silly spring thinking its still winter weather. nicely executed

Lovely outfit Shannon, and I am sorry about your winter dragging on. Our summer is dragging on - I am pretty sure we made 32C today!

That sort of temperature is just wrong for the month of April!
But it looks like you're doing a good job making the best of it. You look great in your black with a pop of purple, and I love the polka dot tights.

Shannon, that sounds very, very cold! You made excellent use of layers and look stylish to boot (or should it be with boot?)!

-32 will teach me to complain about the cooler than normal temps around here. The color of your sweater reminds me of a purple crocus, spring will get here eventually won't it?

Hopefully this kept you warm enough - you sure look great!

Your purple additions are bringing spring to your outfit.  Stay warm!  You look wonderful.

You are an every day inspiration.

You look so great in purple!  I know, what's with the weather!?  I sent my boy to school in  a Spring jacket and now it's snowing!  Ooops....I swear it said 12C and no snow on the weather forecast....

Ugh, that sounds miserable - but you look fantastic!

Thanks all! I do feel perfectly dressed for the weather and very comfortable as well. Still...I'd happily toss these boots downstairs in exchange for a plus temperature of some kind and no snow!

You do look excellent, and I imagine the polka dot hose really jazz up the whole vibe with playfulness.

Shannon-I love this outfit. You look put together and warm.  Sorry the weather is not cooperating.

Shannon, thank you for inspiring me to get dressed in the morning.  It is bitterly cold here also and we just got another foot of snow.  You are a marvel of determination and look how fab you are!

Your winter sounds just awful (but then I run cold and don't think it's warm until it hits at least 80 degrees (27 C)).  You look great and the purple reminds me of Easter.  I think the belt is a great addition to your outfit.

OMG, 32°C???????  Are you still alive???:-(((
(outfit is gorgeous, but frankly so secondary, when it comes to fight for your life!!!:-))

We're wearing the same colors today, so you know I'm liking that!  This is modern classic Shannon, and she's so effortlessly elegant!  Love the belt under the cardi --- adds just a little "hardware" and visual weight in the leather, along with the obvious waist cinching. Gotta love me some waist cinching!

I love that tone of pink but sadly it doesn't love me back so I shall enjoy seeing you in that lovely bright jacket to cheer up a snowy day. Sorry to hear about the cold weather you're still getting Shannon, But suffice to say YLF even if the weather isn't.

Is it even possible? We have -8C at night here, but -32C? Really. That is just unfair. You, on the other side, is a ray of hope with your fighting spirit and the beautiful purple jacket as a lovely nod to that oh so shy Spring.
  • Angie replied 10 years ago
Your winter is relentless!!! But you're moving along with it in style, Shannon. The purple cardigan is a wonderful Spring touch and it's fab to see you in a frock! Good job.

  • hedgiehog replied 10 years ago
What a pretty outfit! I love the colour on you.....you are looking fab despite the weather.
  • Caro in Oz replied 10 years ago
You look gorgeous. Okay I'll stop moaning about summer & the clothing challenges it represents. I can't even imagine dressing for those temperatures:)
  • replied 10 years ago
I love the way the purple belt picks up on the tones in the sweater. You look beautiful and warm. Your crazy weather explains why we have had a lovely, cool and prolonged spring. I'm loving it, but I'm sorry for you!
  • Vicki replied 10 years ago
Spring is never going to come around with you looking so good!  These colors love you and the whole outfit is wrapped in elegant warmth.

I feel your pain. The temperature just dipped back in to the 40's after the mid-60's this weekend.

I love how you accessorized this outfit. I have 2 new tipped sweaters and I've been trying to work out in my mind how to style them. This is perfect. YLF!

My parents texted me to tell me it was so cold! But you look so fabulous, Shannon! Your legs look great in these skirts!
  • rae replied 10 years ago
I could have sworn I'd commented on this! I love your strategy to add a bright color to your winter warmies here. I was just thinking on how to do this, since I'll be visiting Missouri this weekend, and their spring temps are like my winter temps. Totally added to favorites for reference when packing!

Shannon, that is just wrong! -32C in April - brrrr
And I thought my -3C is bad...
Love the bright jacket to brave the cold day. Way to go!
