WIW: To take MIL shopping

My MIL (and me too) wants to get a start on her Christmas shopping, so we're heading out to our local shops for the afternoon. It is an absolutely gorgeous day here - about +4 Celcius and sunny. I want to be comfortable for walking, a bit of warmth for outside but not so I will be hot inside. This is very casual but I still feel put together. I'm wearing my skinny jeans tucked into my charcoal grey boots, a grey wool v-neck sweater and my citron puffer vest. This is the citron puffer I purchased with the hood and sleeves zipped off. I'm quite happy with the outfit.

Tried a few outdoor shots since it's so lovely out but haven't got the lighting right. Hopefully you can see the outfit ok.

What do you think? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

Puffer vest: Esprit
Sweater: Old Navy
Skinnies: Wit & Wisdom
Boots: Nevada (Sears brand)

Such a happy puffer vest, Shannon, love it:-)
I can see this is a great outfit for a fun spot of shopping. If it were me I would add a patterned scarf, but you know me and scarves, plus I'm always cold...

Hope you ladies have a marvelous time!

The snow!!! Ok, now that I've calmed down, what a fab vest! What bag did you carry?

  • Deborah replied 11 years ago

Shannon that is such a vibrant and beautiful color on you and I really like the best version of your puffer. Yes still very put together yet suitable for a day shopping.

And how fab does your back yard look! Do you know I have never seen snow IRL ! I am most envious, it just looks beautiful.

Great bright vest Shannon, and everyone around you will be cheered by the happy colour!

Snow! Send some toward Kansas. We need the moisture.
Your outfit looks cheery and comfortable for a day of Christmas shopping. I hope you both got lots of things marked off your lists.

Oh my you have some snow don't you! Your vest adds the right amount of color to a dark outfit. You must have a lovely MIL because I think this is the 3rd or 4th time I've read that you've taken her out shopping! Mine is good for shopping too...but lives 8 hours away. Have fun, hope you get lots done!

Okay, now I like the citron. ;o) It just needed to be paired with something that grounded it.

But I'm with Inge. I shiver looking at your bare throat (lovely as it is). Brrr...

  • Thistle replied 11 years ago

Snow! Keep it by you, pretty please!

I like the citron vest, but. Echo JR and Inge, would love to see it with a patterned scarf.

Also, did you carry a bag? If so, which one?

The vest is a PERFECT solution for shopping!!! As mentioned before, I love the color. I'm a scarf person, but if it were me, I'd get hot, take it off, lose the darn thing in some store, and then be mad at myself for the rest of the day due to my carelessness! Hope your MIL's outing was successful.

Fun shopping outfit, Shannon! And hey, we were both "vested" today for shopping!

It's great that you can use yours both ways.

I can't believe the amount of snow you have there. Shocking!

Great outfit! I think I've wimped out since living in Seattle. I'd be in my down puffer jacket not a vest if there was visible snow.

Oh my goodness ladies - you have me giggling away here at my keyboard. You think THIS is a lot of snow??? This is just the start - about 6 inches - by the time January rolls around, we will have anywhere from 3-4 FEET of it!

Inge - I will confess that part way through shopping I was wishing I had a wee bit of pattern. I did try on a beautiful cream & brown animal print scarf with bright orange trim about 1/4 inch thick on each side while we were shopping..and I didn't get it. It looked lovely with the outfit...might have to go back even though I'm supposed to be SYB.

Rae - my MIL lives with us so we do a lot of things together and we try to get her out as much as possible since she no longer drives. We do have a blast shopping together.

Anna - people would be giving you some strange glances if you were already in a puffer coat. Some of the teenagers out shopping were just in hooded sweatshirts!

Whoops - sorry I forgot to post a pic with my handbag. I used my grey snakeskin clutch.

You are a ray of sunshine on a snowy day.

Shannon, you look so bright and cheerful! Love the bright vest on you. :)

I did not bat an eye at the snow... we have had little snow this year, after last year's record-breaking amounts, but we did get snow in September!

  • Gaylene replied 11 years ago

I love the color of that vest on you, Shannon. It's such a nice jolt of color to see this time of year.

And I'm joining you in giggling at the reaction to a few inches of the white stuff on the ground. My students don't break out any of their winter scarves and coats until it's at least -10C. And at least half refuse to wear winter boots even when the snow banks are up to their knees. At least in my part of the country we get the Chinook winds that can take us from -25C to +15 in a few hours, but you brave souls in Winterpeg can have colder winters than in Anchorage.

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

Gaylene - yes, we could use a Chinook once in a while just to change things up! It always makes me shake my head when we look at our temperatures in January and see that we are consistently colder than Siberia - seriously!

However, our last two winters have been very mild by Winnipeg standards.

  • JAileen replied 11 years ago

Very nice outfit. Of course the vest is great, but I love your boots because they're Nevada! We've had a little weather this weekend, but no snow, but it feels cold because we're not used to humidity. We have friends from North Dakota who won't wear a jacket unless it's below 20 degrees F, because it just isn't cold!

  • Emily replied 11 years ago

You are a ray of sunshine in that vest, Shannon! Not liking the looks of that snow, though....

I hope you had a productive shopping day.
