WIW: To take DS to the hospital

My son is having all four wisdom teeth out as well as a small piece of jaw bone due to damage created by one of those wisdom teeth - we're getting ready to head out to the hospital. It's a day procedure done under conscious sedation and we have the best maxillofacial surgeon in the city doing it. But still…it's my baby, you know?

So what does a mother wear to take her son for a procedure and then have to bring him home a few hours later? It's got to be something I don't mind getting bodily fluids on (if you know what I mean), and I need to be able to move around easily and not fuss 'cause he's 6'3" and will be kind of "out of it" when I'm trying to get him to the car and then in the house. Plus it's crazy hot and humid here today.

I started with these new-to-me cut off shorts. I had a pair of bootcut jeans that I wasn't crazy about in terms of how the legs fit and the length so hacked them off last night and they make perfect slim fitting denim Bermuda-style shorts. I then paired those with an old but still loved floral tee with hi-lo hem, my cinnamon-pink Vans, watermelon handbag (so glad I bought this pretty little number!) and gold watch. Red specs finish it off.

I think this is a definite case of dressing for the occasion. Does it still look ok? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

I'll be checking in sporadically over the next couple of days so my apologies ahead of time if I don't respond right away.

It looks more than okay, Shannon! It looks brilliant! That structured bag kicks it up to an almost professional level. No one is going to mess with this mama!

Good luck to your son and to you!

Perfect!  You look fabulous, but still ready to deal with your baby. And yes, they are always our babies. No matter their age, no matter their height  :)

Looks super. I hope your boy heals well and quickly!

You look casually appropriate for the occasion!
Hope all goes well with your son's surgery! I'm sure you'll be giving him plenty of TLC. I do understand that even when they're way bigger than you, they're still your baby forever. :-)

Looks great, Shannon.  Best wishes to your son for a quick and easy recovery. As I always tell my son, your baby is always your baby.  He doesn't get it but he will someday.

I think you look great!  Patterns and color are good for hiding stains.  Your shorts look great.  I just cut off a pair to make baggy BF style shorts.  Hope all goes well!

You look fresh and comfy and ready to care for your baby!

I did the same thing with cutting off a pair of jeans and they are now my favorite pair of shorts. I found that the legs fit better than any of the shorts I tried.

Brilliant! You always know how to do it, even on a stressful day like this. What an optimistic color scheme, just perfect. I hope your boy heals quickly. Im sure it's for the best. You'll be in my thoughts, Shannon!

Poor boy. Your outfit should keep his spirits up. The top looks Ted Baker floralish and the cutoffs were genius for you! Hope his recovery is smooth.

Cute DIY shorts. You look great Shannon, and this is the perfect (washable!) outfit for carrying (haha) your sweet DS home from the hospital in. I hope the surgery is successful and he recovers nicely. Let's see, if I recall, you feed them lots of cold popsicles with the sticks removed and no straws. :D

    Aww, you look adorable! :)

Having a bunch of ice packs really helped Ex-Boy with his wisdom teeth extraction! He didn't look too much like a chipmunk!

A great look imo. Hope all went well :)

Great outfit and I'm keeping your young man in my prayers today.

I hope that all went well for DS. You look cool and upbeat and ready for anything. The colors in that tee are so pretty.

You look cheerful and effortlessly stylish. Hope DS recovers quickly. (Lots of ice about the face the first day will really help reduce the swelling. DS's had their wisdom teeth out in the summers of '12 and '13 respectively. DS in nursing wore an old pair of scrubs on the day of the procedure, and loaned a pair to other DS when he had his done. The doc thought it was brilliant!)

Perfect outfit for the day. I'd have never guessed those weren't designed to be shorts if you hadn't said you chopped 'em yourself. Hope your son's surgery went well! I had all 4 wisdom teeth + 1 extra impacted tooth pulled all at once, and my husband tells me that I booked it to the car and was very insistent on not getting help doing so (although probably needed it). Hopefully your son is easier to handle than I was ;)

This is an adorable look. Best of luck to your son. I remember having that exact procedure done in hospital when I was 16 (OMG that was long ago) due to extreme impaction and jawbone damage. He'll do great with loving care from mom. Still, not a fun procedure.

  • Angie replied 9 years ago

I was going to use the word adorable - and huggable. (((HUGS))). You are cute, Shannon. Hope DS is recovering with TLC. xo

The staff will certainly remember his mom as the woman with the fabulous bag. The color is gorgeous and your outfit looks perfect. Hope all went well. I remember my son was pretty loopy after his four wisdom teeth were pulled. And he didn't remember much of anything :)

  • Aubergine replied 9 years ago

I love the top and bag with the shorts -- perfect casual outfit!

Hope your son's doing well! I remember having my wisdom teeth out (without the jaw, though) and it wasn't fun at all.

I have a few moments and wanted to say thank you for all of your well wishes for DS. The surgery went very well and he's having some banana pudding as we speak. The nurse did say he he wouldn't stop talking while sedated - takes after his momma - lol!

  • Parsley replied 9 years ago

Thanks for checking back in, Shannon, and I'm so glad everything went well.

  • Jaime replied 9 years ago

Love this outfit and you look more than up to the challenge. Glad he is recovering well!

  • MsMary replied 9 years ago

You look fab as usual, Shannon, and I'm so glad the patient is recovering nicely! Hugs to both of you!

  • Beth Ann replied 9 years ago

You look lovely today, Shannon!  I love the minty floral over the dark wash bermudas.  Perfect for a hot day and a MOTG.  Glad to hear your DS is on the mend.  Banana pudding.  Yum!

How funny re. the sedative! How did the outfit work for your nurse duties?
