WIW: To Convocation

Today is my son's High School Convocation. This is the dressy-casual event. The more formal dinner and dance is tomorrow evening.

The Graduates had to be at the church earlier this morning to get ready in the caps and gowns and have a quick rehearsal so I don't have a picture of DS. He's wearing his black dress pants, black leather shoes and belt and a white/charcoal grey pinstripe dress shirt. Ties are not required for this. He looked quite handsome as he ran out the door with his best friend this morning.

I had planned to wear my cobalt pencil skirt and knit tank with my floral Club Monaco jacket over top but in the end, decided to pair the cobalt skirt with the cream/navy polka dot blouse my son bought me for Mother's Day last year. I felt like wearing something he gave me for the event. I'm really happy with how the the skirt and blouse look together.

For footwear I've got on my taupe laceless peep-toe oxfords and my handbag consists of my white leather clutch. Gold wedding ring and a gold mesh bangle completes the outfit.

Heading off to the church in about half an hour - time for a cup of coffee first. What do you think of this outfit? All comments/suggestions welcome.

Blouse: gift from DS
Skirt: Cleo Petite
Shoes: Boutique 9
Clutch: Danier Leather
Bangle: Michael Kors

Your outfit is beautiful and how nice that top is a gift from your son.

Congrats - on the graduation of your son :-)  What a beautiful outfit, and a beautiful sentiment to wear the top he gave you!!  I love how the light sheer blouse is repeated with shoes too.

Hope you get to take some family pics of the happy grad that he'll let you post - with faces blurred, of course ;-)

    Have fun!!

So beautiful, Shannon -- and in more ways than one. Not only do you look fantastic, but you and your son will always remember that your outfit included his gift. What a lovely tribute to his fine taste (learned at mama's knee) and what a fab outfit. I hope you have a wonderful time.

I am off to my daughter's 8th grade grad tonight!

Beautiful!  Perfect choice, since one wants to be festive, but also comfortable, for what is often a long (but important) ceremony!

Congratulations to your DS and to you!  After all, it's a sort of "finish line" for parents, too!  Take some time to reflect on how far you've all come!

Congratulations, a  big day for the entire family!  You look wonderful!

You look lovely in that airy top. I like how your skin softens the black and white contrast and ends up bookending the shoes (if that makes any sense at all). Congratulations to your son; soak up all the rewards of your hard work.

Lovely. Your son has great taste in blouses! That's going to end up a favorite, I'm sure.

  • Nanabear replied 10 years ago

That is a really nice top!  Love the pattern and you look perfectly dressed for the occasion.  I'm sure you were one of the most fashionable moms there.

Thanks everyone - it has been a very busy but positively LOVELY day! Everything went very well although the convocation was 3.5 hours long!!! It was a huge graduating class.

Unfortunately my son does not wish me to put his cap & gown pictures up here so I have to respect that...although he does think he would be ok with me posting his pic in his formal wear at tomorrow night's dinner & dance :)

Congratulations to your son and you and your whole family! And do you look fab! And fit! Sending smiles for your happy day!

You look lovely. The shirt is perfect, very sweet to wear his gift to you for the event. I hope you have a great time at the dance tommorow as well!

  • Transcona Shannon replied 10 years ago

By the way, I'll be a bit scarce on the forum tomorrow and Friday because I've just got so much going on with the last of the grad events and work is crazy busy. I probably won't post my work outfit tomorrow morning because I won't be able to pop back in and comment due to work. But I absolutely promise to post my outfit for the dinner & dance and hopefully one of DS as well.
