WIW: Taupe and Red

Today is the first wearing of the portobello skirt that Suz and I both have (*waving to Suz*). I suspect this is going to become a very versatile piece for both of us.

I've paired the skirt with an animal print v-neck short sleeved top and my tomato red Gap blazer (back from Wonder Woman getting the sleeves shortened). I love the colour combination of taupe and red. I'm also debuting the Jeffrey Campbell tri-colour patent leather oxfords - the taupe in the shoes works with the taupe skirt and the black in the shoes pulls out the black in the top. The cream in the shoes works with the cream tones in the snakeskin handbag, which of course provides some pattern mixing.

What do you think? Colours and proportions work? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

Blazer: Gap
Top: Nygard
Skirt: Cleo Petites
Shoes: Jeffrey Campbell
Handbag: Elliot Lucca

Not sure if it is my monitor but the blazer is reading orange rather than red. I envy you in that you seem able to wear both very well. I am also tempted to hop onto that taupe train that seems to be riding through YLF.

I think you got the proportions bang on with this one. Love the bag too.

Great inspiration, Shannon! I think it works! I have a top almost the same, a taupe jacket, a red skirt, and taupe wedge oxfords.(admit they are not 3 tone, but hey! They're still taupe(Hi, Suz!:-))heeled(wedges)and oxfords.
Now, if I only had a bag like your's:-))

Yummy! I love camel and red and the taupe and red give off that same very classy, elegant vibe. The animal print and oxfords create such interest that works beautifully with the more classic pieces.

I'm no expert on proportion so I'll leave that to others, but I'm loving the colour (color) combo here, I'm so going to copy this! You look super chic in this :)

Love the color combo here, Shannon! The Oxfords are cool, and really pull the outfit together :-)

I love the whole outfit - wow - and the skirt is awesome! Yet another reason to move to Canada! (Though I'm not petite).

  • MNsara replied 11 years ago

This is SO great! You are right on trend here with the red/taupe, flame/camel combo I'm seeing in many stores this fall :-)

Love the addition of the animal print - can never get enough of that :-) and your accessories are perfect! Hope that red jacket keeps you smiling all day!

Love the skirt length - so flattering! Fantastic mix of colour and pattern - I am so inspired!

Everything looks good with that handbag! Love the combos today, TS. I'm loving the taupe too!

I am going to totally copy this look! I have a similar blouse and skirt. Just need the fab shoes, purse and jacket. Maybe I'll sneak across the border and raid your closet ...

I like all of the pieces individually, but together they are even better. Agree that the skirt is a fantastic piece. And those shoes? They launch me into orbit every single time. Suz--would these work for your lifestyle? I can picture them with all of your new taupe fabness.

Shannon, you have a great fashion sense and I'm so glad you share your WIWs. They are wonderfully inspiring.

Oooh...I am SO tempted to order a pair of those shoes now. But it seems a bit much with the Doc Saras, too? I don't know how many oxfords I would actually wear. Still...Shannon, are they comfortable?

I love this outfit. The red reads quite orange on my screen, too, but I understand it it actually tomato. I love the pairing of "our" skirt with that and leopard (and snake!) print. So much fun. And the best part is that the whole thing is super comfortable. That skirt is going to be a total workhorse for us this year.

I love how the shoes tie the whole thing together! The red and taupe look great together.

Thank you for your lovely comments all!

The blazer is red but one with some definite orange in it - it's actually one of the reasons I fell for this blazer. Love the colour!

Suz - I wondered too if these oxfords were too similar to the Saras but I don't think so. First off, it's a low wooden heel. It's three tones and with the taupe, I think makes them more versatile than the Saras. They also have a bit more of a masculine vibe to them, which appeals to me. They seem to be very comfortable although today is the first wearing so I'll be able to tell you more later. I'm wearing them with bare feet and nothing is rubbing or pinching. They are very well made and the inside is all leather with a decent amount of softness in the footbed. They are narrower than the Saras which could work for you because if I remember correctly, the Saras were a little wide on you. They are true to size - I wear a 6.5 and that's what I ordered and they fit perfectly. If I was wanting to wear them with thick tights thought I would have wanted to go up half a size. They were also a reasonable price (from Nordstrom). I have the feeling I'll be wearing these alot.

Should I buy a portobello skirt?I feel like I'm missing on something here ;)
But I do have the magenta blazer from Jacob. Should we wear it both in the same day?

This outfit is full of energy and fab as always.

  • replied 11 years ago

That is one terrific outfit Shannon, from head to toe. Love it!

  • Beth Ann replied 11 years ago

OK -- Am I the only one without taupe?

Seriously, this is wondeful! I love the way you've flipped the balance of the two neutrals --- a little black seems to provide a sharpness and definition, while the the taupe is the main backdrop and the red is the star!

  • replied 11 years ago

Love this, Shannon! I think I need to track myself down a portobello skirt also!

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

Thanks Rae, Angie, JR, Celia (and yes we need to wear our Jacob magenta blazers!), Claire, Beth Ann and Ceit!

  • deb replied 11 years ago

Love, love those shoes! and the red jacket really adds pizazz to the outfit.

  • Ingunn replied 11 years ago

I think you've nailed it! Very fun outfit, both chic and personal. The shoes are FAB! I want taupe, too, but the red makes it even better on you.

  • ElleH replied 11 years ago

    Great pieces & great outfit!

  • Isabel replied 11 years ago

This may just be one of my all time favorites on you. I LOVE the animal print blouse and those shoes together. Just fantastic. Then the bag....oh my. THe color of the blaze is great on you too. And I freakin' love that skirt.

( I decided to write my post before reading the others' opinions ...I am so glad to see you got a KILLER from Angie ! )

  • CocoLion replied 11 years ago

Polished and perfect. Just flawless, and I love the way you are mixing patterns and using an unconventional color combination. This is so advanced.
