WIW: Summer Black & A Bold Red Lip

Grrrr…sorry for the blurry pics - not sure what happened there.

Anyway, today's outfit started with my black EF drape front dress. This is, for my body type and style, THE PERFECT DRESS! And because I am not seasonally biased about wearing the colour black (I know some who don't like to wear it in summer) I decided to go all black in my outfit today. I popped on my black EF open front cardigan over top the dress (I realize it's difficult to see black layers in a picture) - love how they layer so perfectly. 

For footwear, I went with my black and white polka dot Birks and chose my black with gold hardware leather handbag. Then for a pop of colour, I chose my red specs and a bold red lip (waving at you Mo!). To finish off the outfit, I went with my gold watch and wedding band.

This is the kind of ease and simplicity I've been craving lately and this outfit is the perfect example of where I want to be and continue to go in my style journey.

What do you think? Does all black in summer speak to you or do you consider it more of a fall/winter colour? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

    I think it looks great! I too wear black in summer. And Rute is right - you would fit right in in Paris!

    You look great!  It doesn't look particularly summery to me but it's not because of the black, it's the 3/4 length sleeves.  I associate that sleeve length with fall and spring (between seasons).

    Oooh. Love the red lip. So chic. I have never in my life worn lipstick or a colorful lip. Makes me feel like a clown (but then, I never wear any makeup at all....) but I adore the look on other people. So sophisticated and especially nice with this outfit.

    Thanks for reminding me to go put lipstick on!  I so love this with the birks.  Amazing how one little change can make an outfit look so current and fun.  Happy feet for you today!

    Sara - I agree that the 3/4 length sleeve (they're actually full length just scrunched up a bit) reads cooler weather, but my office A/C is positive frigid so warmth was required today.

    Really classy!  I am sooo envious of how well you wear a red lip and glasses - works so perfectly on you!  I love all black in summer because it's a little unexpected, no?  Kind of like all white/winter white in the winter.  Fresh, different, a change from our usual.  I also like the idea of Birks with a knit dress - funky yet practical.  I need some lessons in self-photography before I plunge into posting. How do you take your pics?

    I actually prefer black in summer to in winter! Which is a bit inconvenient, but there it is! Love your red specs with this.

    Shannon I love summer black! It was seen all over the streets in New York last month on my visit--This looks simple, cool, crisp.

    Lovely dress! And the Birks are cute.

    I do summer black occasionally, but I like to pair it with white. But I don't have a LBD either, so I don't even have anything to wear that is all black, ha. 

    I always admire your lipstick, Shannon. You do such a beautiful job with it and pick such flattering colors.
