WIW: Stripes for Debombshelling

I thrifted this cream and black striped loose turtleneck sweater a month or so ago and have worn it quite often with jeans, but thought today to pair it with a pencil skirt, not only to act as a debombshelling item, but also to bring in the stripe trend. I tried it first with a plain black pencil skirt and I liked it but it was lacking a wee something. Then I tried it with this black skirt with the cobalt blue wide stripe at the bottom and loved it! Just something a little unexpected, you know?

With the sweater and skirt, I'm wearing black microfishnets (it's quite warm here today - at least by Winnipeg standards!), and my Blondo knee high boots. Anna had started a thread about choosing short boots over long boots and I thought I'd give my knee high boots some love today. To further play up the cream and black in the sweater, I've chosen my cream and black leather handbag. Jewelry is a black/purple/gold bangle.

What do you think? Does this sweater and skirt combination work? What about with the taller boots? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

Sweater: Pria (thrifted)
Skirt: Jones New York
Microfishnets: Hue
Boots: Blondo
Handbag: Danier Leather (thrifted)
Bangle: thrifted

Love the turtleneck. It fits you great. Love the blue colorblock on the skirt too, you look great!

That works beautifully! Love that colorblocking. Because booties are so on trend this season, the tall boots make it look more classic. Love it! Do I even need to mention how I love how you matched your bag? I think not....you know I am in awe of your matching skills.

The blue on the skirt really makes the outfit. Nice work.

I like this look! For fun I think next time you should wear your cobalt booties with it.

I love the stripes mixed with the colourblock skirt.

What a great mix! I really love those boots and think they look perfect here, but blue booties would be fun too. And the sweater is just great!

Nice! At first I thought your sweater was more like a dress and went all the way down to the blue stripe, lol! Then when I clicked on it I saw the line where your sweater ends. It was genius that you paired these two items Shannon. It shows what a good eye you have. Love the Blondos! The texture they lend is especially nice. You look fab! :)

What a nice pairing! You look great in that sweater. And this is fun colour blocking. How kind of you to show some love to those tall boots of yours! It is pouring rain here today so I might have to give some love to mine as well!

I love the blue stripe on the bottom of the skirt with the striped top. The tall boots look good with the outfit. I still wear my tall boots because they're warmer and I run really cold.

What a happy striped outfit! Just gorgeous on you! Modern and graphic.

Your outfits ALWAYS make me smile.

    Thanks Angie :)

Glad to hear from all of you that the choice in the skirt was a good one! I'm finding that this outfit is super comfortable but I don't feel sloppy, which is a concern sometimes with builky sweaters for me.

    LOVE the handbag!!

Beautiful striped sweater, and it looks so nice with the skirt.

The skirt balances out the sweater perfectly. Love the colour block, what a fantastic skirt! Your outfits are so wonderfully polished and inspiring. Gorgeous!

I love it all, especially with the bag. Sexy Mod Gogo Girl FTW!

  • ManidipaM replied 11 years ago

Stellar outfit! This is so modern and fun, especially with the matching bag.

  • Emily replied 11 years ago

Zoomed out it looks like a very chic dress, but close up I can see that it is effortlessly matched separates. Very nice! You are glowing in that turtleneck.

Another vote for the blue booties!

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

Based on your suggestions, I will try this pairing another time with the blue booties!

"Sexy Mod Go Go Girl" - LOL Rae!

Thanks everyone for your positive feedback.

The sweater, skirt and bag together = so stylish!

How do you like the Blondos? I'm considering a pair of tall boots.

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

I love these boots Denise. The footbed is very comfortable for extended walking. I have average bordering on wide feet and I find the width of the foot perfect. They are nice because of the stretchy upper portion of the boot hugging your ankle and calf. I have pretty "meaty" calves and these stretch enough no problem to fit. They work equally well with skirts/dresses or skinnies tucked in. I know they didn't work for Rita (hers fell apart) but other on the forum have them and like them as well. Plus they're waterproof!
