WIW: Something old, something new

I've been looking for a loose fitting tee with some sort of graphic print on it with white as the background colour to help me transition into spring/summer - something I could wear on its own with jeans (denim and white) or with pencil skirts and blazers for work. I found this lovely polyester blend tee last night at Laura Petite that fit the bill. I love its soft fabrication and drape and its slight nod to tie-dye. BTW I have never spent this much on a t-shirt but am learning that if it is "the one" for me, I will wear the heck out of it and therefore is worth the dollar amount.

I popped on the tee this morning and paired it with my Kut from the Kloth baby bootcut jeans. I always feel tall when I wear these jeans! On top of that, I've added a newly thrifted navy boyfriend blazer. I've been looking for a navy blazer since last summer for both dressy and casual wear and found this last night at Value Village. It's exactly what I was looking for, is a petite cut and fits perfectly.

For footwear, I've got on my trusty Doc Marcies and it was time to bring out my green handbag (known as Kelly) for spring.

I like how this all works together - what do you think? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

Blazer: Ricki's (thrifted)
Tee: Laura Petite
Jeans: Kut from the Kloth
Boots: Doc Martens
Handbag: Cleo (thrifted)
Watch: Calvin Klein (thrifted)

Working backwards I love the green bag! The t-shirt looks great - will you wear it without a jacket when it is warmer? I think you are absolutely right to buy something you love than a bunch of cheaper and lesser substitutes. And great find with the jacket! Navy excellent!

Lovely.  That top doesn't look like a tee, it looks much "nicer" than a tee if you know what I mean.the navy blazer was quite a score...I'm on the look out for one as well.

Love this -- I hit upon this as one of my spring uniforms too :) I love the graphic T with the blazer.

Love this - so fab! I am living vicariously through you today as I had planned to wear something similar but a last minute important meeting at "The Board Office" has squashed that plan.  I don't have the guts to wear jeans in front of my Superintendent yet..... even if it is Friday! ;)

*Something borrowed and something blue* Well you do have a bit of blue on today:)
Anyway, I digress! i like your thinking with regards to spending more on something you will wear the heck out of and as Deborah said that looks so much more than an ordinary tee. I really like this friday look on you and the colour scheme is lovely and spring-like, fab!

I love your new tee!  The colors are gorgeous.  Tees are getting pricey these days aren't they?  Seems like $50 for one is no big deal now, and many are up to $100!  But you picked a great one!  I love it with the jeans and blazer.  Perfect transition to Spring.

I LOVE this. I would wear it just like that myself. I love the bootcuts for a change, the fierce docs, the blazer over the 'spring' tee. And of course the color of your handbag, it's great. You look fab!

First, let me say I LOVE the bag. This is a really great outfit. I like your new tee, but to my eye it looks nicer than a tee. The navy blazer pulls it all together perfectly. Great way to start Spring. YLF!

I love graphic tees under blazers!  The boots cuts and boots look great and I love the bright green bag.

I love how the t-shirt is modern and the bag and blazer adds structure. You look great! Please send your gorgeous bag to me when you are tired of it :)

So glad you all like my new tee - it is a bit more special than just a regular tee, isn't it?

Shevia - I will definitely be wearing it without a topper once the warm weather arrives. I can also see it over a pencil skirt for a de-bomshelling look, with any pair of jeans, with my white jeans, etc.

Krista - don't you hate it when those last minute meetings squash your casual Friday look?

Raisin - when I was paying for the tee, I kept thinking "I could buy 2 or 3 tees at another store for this price", but would I want to wear them as much?

This green handbag is one of my best thrift scores ever - this will be the second spring/summer season I've used it and it's still going strong. Love the color and shape. Sorry Ingunn - you won't be getting it any time soon - lol!

Like this tee so much I have investigated. The forum enables me way too much. I think it is perfect for work and weekends. You mention is was a bit pricey for a t but I think you will get lots of wear out of it which means it is worth several of the other t's.

I really love this whole outfit, Shannon...and that printed tee is fabulous!  You always give me something new to consider..whether it's a new way to combine the pieces you already own, or trying a new trend.  Fab!

Very nice new tee - if I can even call it that.  I have been on the lookout for something similar too.  I think you scored with the navy blazer and the green accent of your bag makes it interesting and fresh for spring.  Love this outfit on you!

Gorgeous! I love how the printed tee works like a shell. And the navy blazer is perfect - looks like you have always owned it, if that makes sense. Like it totally fits into your wardrobe with no effort.

Wonderful new selections -- the tee and the jacket.  This look is great for denim Fridays at work.  It's relaxed and just a little playful, but also work ready and top of the line --- quality and fit.

Now.  If we could just get out of the deep freeze!

Fun and fantastic outfit, but that bag! good heavens how do you score such lovelies when thrifting?!?!?
  • MsMary replied 11 years ago
Shannon, you rock a graphic tee like nobody's business!

And that bag! I swear, I was reading your post and saying to myself, "If she thrifted that amazing green bag, I am going to burst with envy!!"

    *burst*

I find many graphic t's are very young looking but this one is really nice.  I love the colors and soft pattern.  I also like the green bag with the blue/green of the t.  Very nice all around.

You wear this look SO well! That's a fabulous tee and it's stunning under the black blazer. The blue and grey bits are picked up by the colours in your hair. Attractive :)
  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago
Glory - so you gonna join me in my tee love?

Beth Ann - yes please! Get us out of the deep freeze!

Dianthus - I've looked at so many graphic tees that I wouldn't wear over the age of 16. Maybe it helped that this one was found in a "mature woman's" store - lol!

MaryK - sorry to make you burst. It was pure dumb luck!

Angie - thank you! Just to clarify, the blazer is actually navy not black.

Thank you all so much for your lovely comments.
  • Angie replied 11 years ago
It virtually looks black :). Thumbs up all the way!

love the tee witht his. fab, fab friday outfit!
  • kellygirl replied 11 years ago
Gosh, this is awesome, Shannon! I think you are onto something with that fab graphic tee. Of course, you are making me wonder how much you spent on it --lol! Definitely more fun than a plain tee and it looks fab under the blazer. Glad to share my name with such a stylish handbag! (So glad she is not a Kellie or a Kelli!)
  • Aida replied 11 years ago
Perfectly cute and perfect for transitional spring! The colors in your tee are going to play really nicely with all of your spring and summer things.
  • Sveta replied 11 years ago
I am not a fan of tees but this one looks lovely. You came up with a great outfit and I LOVE the Kelly bag!
  • Mo replied 11 years ago
    This is totally casual cool.
I hear you on finding a graphic tee that fits the bill.  Seems like it should be a breeze, but I'm on a several month hunt myself at this point.
  • annaj replied 11 years ago
I love your tee!! I can see you getting plenty of wear out of it - great colours, and a great print! Love the way you have styled it here too!
