WIW: Slouchy Lace (JFE?)

I'm hoping this combination is just flattering enough (JFE)…

I started today's outfit with my silky, slouchy, tapered leg trousers. In order to keep the leg line looking longer and the almost-too-short trousers from giving Angie fits on the hem length (lol!), I've added the only black pointy toed flats I own. True…they are not all black, but I'm hoping the elongated toe helps. I was going to wear my pointy toe black kitten heels but my knee is aching today and flats were required.

To the trousers, I added my new ivory lace front drapey tee. So I guess this outfit almost qualifies for volume-on-volume? I chose a vintage black and gold enamel bracelet and my large cream handbag for accessories, and went with my red specs and red lipstick to finish off the outfit.

So what do you think? Definitely not traditionally figure flattering, but is it JFE? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

Tee: Smart Set

Absolutely JFE, to my eye.  My gut reaction is that I'd prefer it with a solid black shoe, however as I look again, I do like the way the shoes bookend the top.  So I'll watch to see what others say and learn from this myself!
What a great top.  Is it really warm enough for short sleeves?  YAY!

I don't see what's NOT flattering about this! You look great.

I agree with Pastrygirl.  Looks great to me!

Seems plenty flattering to me! I like how both pieces together make it kind of a less-expected version of the most basic of all combinations -- the white top with black pants. I also just love those shoes and think the animal print adds a little interest that a solid black shoe wouldn't.

I think I am a failure at figuring out JFE because I think this very flattering. And, as you probably know, I love those shoes!

It looks totally flattering from here.  And I love the tee!  Is it lined in front?

  • carambola replied 10 years ago

I agree with very flattering. I love how everything fits and also love the shoes.

    Looks flattering to me :)

JFE has been achieved. Well done. That top is very fresh on you, Shannon. You also have a relatively long leg line. High contrast top with flats - and STILL your legs look long.

Thanks for adding the shoes just for me. xo

I'm sure glad Angie agreed because I definitely think it looks flattering!

Thank you all soooo much - I'm glad that it passes JFE standards!

Emily - yes, the tee is fully lined in the front which I love. That way I don't need to add the extra layer of a cami when it gets hot.

Angie - thank you :) The trousers do look better with my black pointy toe kitten heels but flats were needed today so I'm glad to hear they work.

I'm really happy with this tee and it drapes beautifully when semi tucked as well. I suspect I'll be wearing this a lot.

The color of the top is beautiful on you. And the outfit looks so polished and intentional that I find it "flattering" on you.

Not just JFE, but very - to my eye. Great example how simple pieces make up a great outfit when combined in a clever way.

  • Joy replied 10 years ago

It works! As Angie said, even with high contrast, your legs still look long. I drool every time I see that bag, and now those shoes!

  • E replied 10 years ago

You look so beautiful & chic! Like a lot of the others, I don't see anything unflattering about this, hehe.

Looks very nice! Don't know your work situation, but my only two cents is maybe a long necklace?? (Said really shyly, as a newbie..........)

  • kellygirl replied 10 years ago

This is terrific and way more than JFE. I think the pieces are so gorgeous on their own they need no more embellishment. YLF, Shannon!

    Nice!

  • Debbie replied 10 years ago

    I really like this!

Great outfit, Shannon, and I think saying that it's JFE is way too harsh! I think it looks very nicely flattering.

    Great job, Shannon!

I love the fluid fit of this combo. What struck me when I glanced at the photos is that the structure is provided by the cream handbag. I've never noticed that before, but somehow in this case, the bag rounds off the outfit with its structure. YWIM?
Perhaps, it is beacuse I am used to seeing bags to add a splash of colour to an outfit, whereas here the colours are within the same family and the structural component is more prominent to my eye. I LOVE how it juxtaposes the flowiness of the clothes.

    I don't know, I may be just rambling :)

To me the strength of this outfit is that the individual pieces shine. It doesn't sport your habitual perfect proportions but it is ever so appealing and smart.

Hehe - I have a pair of black pants that hit at about the same length, and I do the same thing - wear black shoes - because in the back of my mind, it's WWAS (What Would Angie Say)? Truth be told, I've always been fussy about pant lengths myself. I think these look fine, and your legs look nice and long. The top drapes beautifully and so do your trousers. I really like your fashion sense, Shannon, and I love how well you apply Angie's posts.

Looks great to me. Love that top.

Looks plenty flattering to me. I'm really digging that shirt and those shoes are fabulous!

  • Ingunn replied 10 years ago

JFE it is, and I love the choice of accessories, too. You have a knack for picking the great ones, Shannon! In fact, I think your outfit is way beyond JFE - you look great!

Great outfit and love the modern top. I have been looking for a petite top like that to wear with my boyfriend jeans. You always find such cute petite clothes .
