WIW: Slouchy Black and Sparkly Blue

More trousers today thanks to the cold - I popped on my black slouchy trousers to start off the outfit and then added my dark ink blue sparkly top that DS gave me for Christmas. It's a hi-low hem and is the perfect shape and length for a semi tuck. I've added a simple black leather belt with gunmetal buckle and my black wedge booties. For jewelry, just a ring for each hand and my handbag for the day is my yellowy-cobalt snakeskin clutch.

I love the simplicity, comfort and cozy factor of this outfit. What do you think? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

Sweater: Laura Petite
Trousers: Lord & Taylor
Booties: Blowfish
Clutch: Trouve

Looks great! Love the semi tuck and the blue and black together!

Love that top on you! I think this would be fun with your blue booties too, unless I am crazy and you don't have blue booties. Anyway, you look fab!

A very slick finished look - really nice. The bag is gorgeous.

  • Jjsloane replied 11 years ago

Gorgeous Shannon - the bag really makes it a WOW. We must be on the same wavelength since I'm in black and ink blue today too. Not nearly as chic as you though.

Looks great and comfortable too. This top seems ideal to wear with slouchy pants. I'm taking notes.

Lovely to see that top again. You have a chic and cosy outfit, finished off with a pop of colour. Fab.

Love the daytime sparkle and the combo of navy and blue. I also like the slender arms of the slouchy blouse -- sometimes the arm and shoulder line in oversized sweaters can take the look from slouchy to sloppy. This was is Goldilocks (which means just right).

Lovely subtle sparkle and i am glad you specified the color as blue since it is hard to tell in the photo. Blue + black = excellent! Also the clutch is fantastic!

I always love blue and black! The sparkle in the top is fab, just adds some flair. You look great, as always!

I like the sparkley top and black slouchy trousers together. You look warm and stylish!

You are Urban Prince-ing it big time at the moment! A very sophisticated palette.

I love the simple silhouette too! And the cozy factor is so important. I like that you have plenty or sparkle (the sweater) and pizzazz (the clutch) even though you're nice and warm. Fabulous and modern too with the hi-lo top and slouchy trousers!

Shannon, you look so sleek and sophisticated here. The sparkle is something I really enjoy for daytime, particularly when it is done in such a subdued palette (especially blue and black, my fav).

Thank you all for your lovely comments - blue and black is quickly becoming a favourite colour combination.

Although I had to laugh because a patient just said to me "oh no...did you try that top on in poor lighting because it's navy and not black. It doesn't match your pants" - lol!

  • replied 11 years ago

Hahah! Oh, I needed a laugh today, Shannon! Thanks!

  • kellygirl replied 11 years ago

You nailed it again. The subtle sparkle in this outfit really elevates this look from awesome to stellar. Simple and so fab!

  • replied 11 years ago

Yes, beautiful colors & touch of sparkle, & the bag color & texture really set it off!

    Those trousers are Fab Shannon!
Giving me ideas for my Winter shopping list too.

  • Caro in Oz replied 11 years ago

Very stylish - love navy & black together.

  • Krista replied 11 years ago

Love love love! I just might borrow this idea for tomorrow since we are sweater twins!

  • Kyle replied 11 years ago

You had me at the blue/black combo, Shannon. But your execution is spot on. The slouch. The semi-tuck. AND the sparkles. The sparkles push it over the top, yet it is still completely daytime appropriate.

  • CocoLion replied 11 years ago

Perfect! You look relaxed and sophisticated and I love the clutch, I want one!

  • Aida replied 11 years ago

Gloriously sparkly moody :D How long is the hem in back? If it's a good bit longer than the front, I bet it'd work well sans semi tuck for a different type of look. I think the navy and black together looks fab, and your patient's comment makes me giggle (especially the "oh no" because I read it in a suuuuper feathery, drawn-out voice ^^ ).

  • rae replied 11 years ago

Hehe, you navy-and-black-mixing rebel, you. I love this; so moody and mysterious.

  • MsLuna replied 11 years ago

Shannon, the booties are so so so super cute! :)

And I'm going to try and steal that "semi-tuck" idea from you. From what I remember you said you had apple tendencies as well, right? Perhaps that might work on me!

You also rock the slouch. A LOT!

Overall - you look fabulous! Thanks for constantly inspiring us with your outfits!

  • catgirl replied 11 years ago

Oooh, almost black - love it! I've realized one reason I love a curved hi-low hem is that it imitates the half-tuck if left out, or can be half-tucked more as needed. FAB.

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

Aida - hey there! So nice of you to pop in. Welcome back! Yes, the back is a good bit longer in the back and the sweater works well untucked too. But here's the issue - I have to wear a belt with these trousers or they fall off and I find the sweater left untucked looks weird with the belt buckle bump (that's alotta "b"s!) underneath. Any suggestions?

Rae - ha! Me as a rebel? Too funny...

Una - I have become a huge convert to the hi-low hemline. It's nothing short of brilliant for exactly the reasons you've stated.

  • Aida replied 11 years ago

Oh I hear you on the belt buckle bump! In my case due to swayback, it's ALWAYS an issue. I have a belt made of flat metal discs which lies VERY flatly against my pants that I use for those days (basically any day you see me in my flared jeans and no tuck? that belt is holding the pants up). I couldn't find a good photo of my belt since I don't really wear it on its own, but you can see it peeking out from under my vest in this old art challenge outfit here in #1; and a good close up on the right side. I like to let the chain dangle down, too :) Also an example of the belt in action in photo #2; you can see it doesn't show at all under that body-con sweater dress! I got mine at Target a couple years ago, but I am sure you could find something similar now that spring/summer stuff is hitting the stores.

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

Aida - thanks so much for the info! That's exactly what I need.

  • krishnidoux replied 11 years ago

What a nice outfit! I have seen this top before on you and it is always still stunning. I like everything you did here, exactly the way you did it. But for interest and also to really drive your "black and blue" point home, may I suggest a black accessory near your neck such as a black necklace or scarf... or a black jacket, or even just black earrings, if you wear those.
    You look terrific.
