WIW: Secret Santa Scarf

My "Down Under" Secret Santa sent me two beautiful and colourful scarves and today I'm debuting the red/orange one. The colours in this scarf are rich and bright and there's a black animal print that shows up here and there in it. I wanted it to be the star of the outfit today so kept the rest of my look in a neutral colour palette. I started with my charcoal grey boucle knit dress. I added dark grey tights and my grey Frye double shaft boots. On top of the dress is the gorgeous scarf. I have tied the knot like a men's tie but with the knot lower down and just let the ends hang because I wanted quite a bit of the pattern to show. I then topped the outfit with my black leather jacket. To continue with the grey and black colour scheme, I'm using my grey snakeskin clutch.

What do you think? does this work together? how are the proportions? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

Leather jacket: Danier Leather
Dress: Gap
Tights: Hue
Boots: Frye (eBay)
Clutch: Sondra Roberts (thrifted)
Scarf: Secret Santa
Lipstick: MAC Brave Red

Thank you Secret Santa for the beautiful and unique scarf!

I think that you've styled that beautiful scarf perfectly. It also has a holiday vibe but could be worn anytime. The animal printmixed in is especially fun.

This is beautiful, Shannon! I love the long 'tie' and the neutrals really let the scarf shine, while supporting its pattern --- your Danier jacket and the scarf look made for each other.

That scarf is great, Shannon! And great job pairing it up with neutrals to keep the scarf the focal point.

That scarf really warms up that tonal black and grey outfit. I love it! Your red lippy is the perfect companion. I like the way you've tied it as well so that it makes a vertical line in the jacket's opening.

Looks great, cosy greys and blacks and then the tie in red. Love it!

Shannon, you have done that scarf proud! It looks lovely. I really like the variation of textures in this outfit. That Gap dress ALWAYS impresses me on you. I wish I had got one when they were available; it's just so super on you. And every time I see you in that jacket I rethink my decision not to get a leather blazer. Maybe a leather blazer would be a good first step into leather jacket land after all....

I love how your lips match your scarf! The dress/tights/boots column make a beautiful pedestal for your gorgeous new scarf and lovely, smiling face.

    KILLER

Love the lippie with the scarf!

Claire - I find this way of tying a scarf gives me a longer (hopefully leaner) line.

Suz - this leather blazer was probably my best purchase of 2012. It seriously increases the style quotient of any outfit I wear it with. Just saying...

Angie - so glad I found my perfect red lipstick colour.

    Thanks everyone!

Shannon, you look so fantastic in a dress and a jacket. Makes me want to get more wear out of all the dresses in my closet, so inspiring! Love how you tied the scarf which is beautiful by the way. The lengthening aspect totally works. Gorgeous outfit!

Oh, just read that you wrote about the blazer being your best purchase 2012. I would concur, it is super chic and would definitely elevate any outfit. You've got me thinking now, what is my best purchase of 2012? Hmmm...

What a beautiful scarf! I think this is the perfect outfit to showcase the scarf. You've also tied it in a way that lets the colors and pattern shine.

    Total awesomeness.

Beautiful scarf. And lovely how you styled it here. The pointy hem on the jacket is perfect to elongate the dress and it also echos the length of the scarf. Lovely lines in this outfit.

You look gorgeous. Your hair looks SO good with the red lips & scarf.

Tina - get those dresses out of the closet and wear them! BTW - you were the inspiration for my other thread on what your best purchase of 2012 was - thanks!

Caro - well coming from someone with such gorgeous hair, thank you!

    Thanks Sarah, Zap and Lisa!

Shannon you are so "pinned"! Love love love this. That dress is a fabulous canvas. Simple and stunning. Love the lippie. I wear Mac Ruby Woo but must check out yours:) How can you not try something called Brave Red? So sassy.

Wonderful! I also noticed the lipstick right away--great colour on you.

  • rae replied 11 years ago

Gorgeous scarf! I love all the textured neutrals with it!

I'm late to the thread, but I wanted to say that this outfit is luminous and harmonious --- you seem to glow in it (and not just because of the lippy).
