WIW: Remember this dress?

One of the perks of having lost a bit of girth is some of my older items are coming out of the holding zone and finding new life - this wrap black/white print dress is one of them. There were a few of us who purchased this Maggy London dress when it was an Angie pick 3-4 years ago. So fun to put it on again!

On top of this graphic print dress, I added a denim vest - I thought it would be a fun juxtaposition between a fairly classic style dress and a bit of distressed denim. The vest is actually one of my older denim jackets that I just hacked the sleeves off of. I like the cropped length for a vest.

I chose my black Clarks sandals, citron handbag, white watch and black/white specs to finish off the outfit.

Does this work? Or does the combination of this dress and denim vest look off to you? I did try the dress as well with my white denim jacket and admit that looked better but I thought the vest would be a fun option. As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

Dress: Maggy London
Vest: Brody Jeans (thrifted)
Sandals: Clarks
Handbag: Sergio Ferretti
Watch: thrifted

So nice it does not even need the pop of colour, it is stand alone great.
And I like the pop anyway.
    Stealth cool. It's a thing.

Yes, I remember it! Still going strong to my eyes, bossed to a vest denim jacket, fab shoes and pop of yellow bag, included! Yeay!:-)

It is nice to see items coming out of holding. It looks very nice.

I like it with the vest Shannon.  Sure, it might look "better" with the white jacket, but it would have such a different vibe.  And sometimes it's the vibe that wins!  Plus it's fun to wear things in different ways.

And congratulations on fitting into this again :)

Fabulous, Shannon! You look terrific in that dress, which I truly love. I do like it with the denim vest, too. Perfect.

Thanks for the feedback regarding the denim vest with this - it's a little out of my comfort zone for sure. Always fun to try something different isn't it?

    Olivegreen - "stealth cool" - lol :)

I think the denim vest looks good with the dress.  I also like the colorful bag with it.  Interesting that you just cut the sleeves of a jacket.  I'll have to keep that in mind.

  • carambola replied 8 years ago

Love it! I have that dress too and you are making me want to rush right out and get a denim jacket to go with it.

  • replied 8 years ago

ooh - nice!  A white denim jacket would be too predictable and expected - in my opinion, anyways.  I really love it styled this way - it injects the outfit with your personality and is far more interesting this way. Nicely done!!! Funny, I was toying with the idea of hacking up one of my jackets too - even want to try taking the bottom/waist band off too.

  • Transcona Shannon replied 8 years ago

Sara - the jacket was a thrift find so I figured I really had nothing to lose by cutting off the sleeves.

Carambola - thrift stores usually have denim jackets I find.

Lisa - I like the idea of cutting off the bottom band. This jacket is cropped so not needed but with a longer length, that would be a great idea. Go for it!

Has it been that long that Angie suggested that dress? Time really flies.
I think you look modern and happy in this combination. Always good to see your outfits.

Shannon- gorgeous, fun, and well played!  As always, your smile makes the outfit :)

I remember this dress and always liked you in it - so glad it finds the second life now!
Fab outfit with the vest and the citron bag is the icing on the cake!
You are on the roll again Shannon!

Are you kidding me? yes this works! It looks wonderful in general and in every detail.

Love this dress and you look great.  Wonderful styling.  Speaking of dresses, do you mind me asking the fate of the Metalicus dress?  I wondered if that was perhaps more comfortable to wear now?

  • Karin L H replied 8 years ago

Great look! The items really work together and that dress looks SO good on you!

  • harmonica replied 8 years ago

Great to see you again! Love that dress and the accessories!

  • dakotacheryl replied 8 years ago

That vest adds a "cool" factor to that dress..love it, and the way you've accessorized !!

  • Helena replied 8 years ago

    Gorgeous dress!

  • Transcona Shannon replied 8 years ago

Deborah - aaahhhh yes....the Metalicus dress....well to be honest I have yet to wear it but I do still have it. It was too snug when it arrived - wearable but waaaaaay too body con for me, you know? It's still a bit too body con for me but getting better. I'm thinking of trying it with my long black EF vest or a blazer and seeing if that makes it more comfortable for me to wear. But I'm not giving up yet!

  • goldenpig replied 8 years ago

Yay, waving to my Maggy London dress twin! (I still have mine too!) Love it with the citron bag! The denim vest is so creative.

  • Beth Ann replied 8 years ago

So nice to open up YLF after 5 days off and see your smiling face!  You look terrific in the dress, and a denim topper is a great way to play with new "finishes" for the outfit.  Black and white is so versatile!  The sandals look terrific, too!

  • Deborah replied 8 years ago

Glad to hear you still have the Metalicus dress:). One of mine is very body con too and honestly I would never be skinny enough to feel ok about it so I do the same. I layer! And it works a treat.

Fantastic outfit, Shannon! And good job, fitting into a beloved dress again. I definitely like the distressed vest, and I would also like the white denim jacket, for a more classic look.
Note to self: must take the scissors to that old denim jacket that is hanging in my closet!
