WIW: Red & Dark Brown

I loved the ensemble Angie showed us pairing red and dark brown but at the time, didn't have any dark brown in my wardrobe. But I realized this morning that the new EF mixed-media jacket was dark brown and voila - an outfit idea sprang to life!

I started my outfit with the dark red EF dress - like wearing a nightgown to work it's so comfortable! I added semi-opaque black tights and my knee high flat black boots for footwear - both comfortable and provides a bit more leg warmth. On top of the dress I added my dark peat wool/leather sleeved EF jacket. I finished off the outfit with my black leather satchel handbag, red specs and red lipstick.

Angie - thank you! I never would have thought of this combination without your tutelage and a shout out to Diana too for her "Chocolate and Cherries" post yesterday that provided further inspiration.

I think the outfit probably would have looked even better if the boots had been dark brown but I don't have. At least the black boots bookend the black leather sleeves of the jacket.

So what are your thoughts on this outfit? Does it all work together? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

So perfectly coordinated. A few weeks ago you lamented being above your preferred weight and you did a wardrobe revamp to include only figure flattering comfortable items. This strategy is so clearly working well as this outfit is so streamlined and flattering despite being fairly waist surrendering and fluid. I really admire your style, Shannon.

This is lovely! I am glad to see that jacket coming out to play. It works really well with the red.

What Nebraskim said. The lines of this outfit are wonderful on you, as are the colors. The red dress brightens the brown. I think that the semi-opaque stockings are key for not being too black with the brown, if that makes sense.

This is a great edgy combo, Shannon. I love it.

A very pretty, sophisticated-professional look. Absolutely lovely.  This will be a good transitional outfit too -jacket can sub for an outerwear piece in spring and fall, and the look can move from the office out to dinner or to a more casual look with  change of footwear. What a fantastic piece this jacket is!

Nebraskim - wow, thank you so much :) I'm definitely much happier these days knowing whatever I reach for in my closet is working for me now.

Joy - I actually tried the outfit first with thicker, opaque tights and it was indeed too dark and heavy.

lisap - I didn't think about the transitional benefits of this jacket. Great idea! I can even picture it over top of jeans and tee on the weekend running around in the spring and fall.

Thanks for your comments ladies :)

I love the contrast of the heathery body of the jacket with the opaque sleeves. So great with the red.

As soon as I saw your title I thought "chocolate & cherries" like Diana's post. Nicely done! I'm the same, I wouldn't have thought of the combo without Angie's suggestion. Well done - the red specs are the icing on the cake (sundae?) :)

Lovely and very sophisticated! I'm glad I inspired you! You are inspiring me too; must remember that semi sheer black tights work to bridge black and brown.
