WIW: Purple & Orange & Oxfords

This combination looked really good in my head but I'm not sure it translates as well into real life. I started the outfit with my pumpkin orange skirt and then added a purple tank and my purple Amber Sun jacket. Footwear kind of stumped me though and I ended up going with my tri-colour patent leather oxfords. To pick up the tones in the shoes, I'm wearing my snakeskin bag. Jewelry consists of the amber vintage necklace my hubby gave me.

What do you think? Does this work? Purple and orange ok together? Should I have chosen different footwear? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

Jacket: Amber Sun
Tank: Gap
Skirt: Winner's
Shoes: Jeffrey Campbel
Handbag: Elliot Lucca
Necklace: vintage gift

Whoops....I just realize I forgot to take a pic with my outwear. I'm wearing my silver trench coat.

Looks great to me! The tan and creamy colors in your shoes and bag add a cool and calming touch which makes it work.

I hope it works because I was planning to wear orange and purple today too.

I think the oxfords look good with this -- I agree that the cream looks nice with the skirt. I think your marcies would have looked good too.

I like the colour combo but am wondering if a patterned scarf might draw the eye up a bit and complete the outfit? But IIRC from previous looks maybe you aren't a scarf person.

Bold choice! I think the combo works here and the shoes and bag are perfect for it.

Great outfit! I like the orange and purple together and that necklace is a nice touch.

A funny aside: I was thinking, "Gee I didn't know those oxfords had jewels on them" and then I realized that was just your *serving suggestion* in the last picture, lol! I'm always putting on my glasses to look at your accessories shots and leaning forward because your shoes sometimes have watches on them or your boots are wearing bracelets....you'd think I'd get it by now, but you fool me every time! But I love your WIW's. Don't ever stop posting them, please! :)

Are you kidding me? This is super sassy Shannon at work! I love this :)

The outfit works to my eye too. Fun and eye catching!

You could also have left off the necklace for a super modern effect - if you wanted to :)

Ha ha ha Claire - too funny!

Angie - it's interesting you mention the necklace 'cause originally I didn't have it on, then I added it, then when I got to work I wish I had left it off. Not only is it more modern without it, I think the necklace visually shortens my neck.

I commented on the later orange and purple, but wanted to give kudos to you too. I LOVE the combination. I'd actually been planning to start a thread asking people to show me their purple and orange combos because the idea was so interesting to me after stirring peaches and blueberries together into jam. Better still, I have an orange skirt (once I repair the hem), and it maybe would go with my purple lace top. Now I must try it! Thanks for the inspiration!

Looks great to me - you are rockin' the colorblockin'! That bag has turned out to be such a workhorse for you. It looks so amazing with the colorblocked shoes.

  • Jules replied 11 years ago

amiable - I love your observation about the jam! Inspiration comes from so many places. Once it was seeing the light red shirt I was wearing next to my teal yoga mat that inspired me to colour combo greatness.

    LOVE.

    I would totally wear this!

The color combining, including shoes and purse, is superb!

This is fun and inspiring. I may need to try a reverse version with purple skirt and orange jacket. Love those oxfords!

Really like purple and orange together. How about adding a printed scarf to break the solids?

You had me with the title, purple and orange are lovely together and a fun change from orange and blue paired together. I like the lighter shoes and bag, this let's the outfit stand out.

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

amiable - definitely try your orange skirt with your lace top. It's a happy colour combo!

Rae - this handbag is amazing. It seems to go with just about everything. So glad I went for it!

MaryK - I actually said to hubby this morning when I was getting dressed "I feel like I'm channeling MaryK in this outfit" - of course, he went "huh"? - LOL!

Jules & Asingh - thanks for the suggestion about adding a scarf but as you wondered Jules, I am not really a scarf person. I've tried a few here and there but never feel really comfortable with them.

I love it, the shoes and bag together are especially fab! Well done!

Lovely and cheerful! Neutral shoes and bag work perfectly here (and the shoe colorblocking so nicely echoes the clothing, very clever!).

Terrific! I love those colors together, and you are glowing. I had a salesgirl recently tell me that you can tell if a color combination works if you can envision it in nature. So I envision your combo in a dramatic sunset, when the stormy clouds are all purpley, the happy clouds are bright and creamy, and the sun is a big orange ball.

To play with it further, you could bring other "sunset shades" in like sky blue, deep blue, gold, grey.

And I'd love to see this outfit with cognac or brown accents in place of the creamy ones.

  • Deborah replied 11 years ago

Purple and orange together are devine! I adore the silhouette of this outfit. This looks modern and very 'cool' to my eye. I would have been boring and probably worn pumps but the oxfords are perfect. Very modern classic with a twist :)

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

Once again Julie, you've given me a great idea. I can wear this same skirt and jacket combo with my cognac riding boots and my Fossil handbag. Thanks - again!

  • Thistle replied 11 years ago

    Love, love, love those oxfords!

I think this outfit looks quite stylish, and the colors look fab on you!
