WIW: Polka Dots & Denim

Why do people take Casual Fridays and turn them into "Sloppy" Fridays? I enjoy our Friday Denim Days but still want to look neat and tidy so today decided to pair what could be considered a dressy element with my lighter wash jeans. I like the mix. I'm wearing my navy and cream polka dot voluminous blouse with my lighter wash Gap Long & Leans. For footwear, I'm wearing my cream and caramel oxford sandals and for accessories, my orange leather handbag and my Michael Kors gold mesh cuff. This outfit is simple and comfortable, but not sloppy.

What do you think? Do the proportions work with the voluminous top and jeans? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

Blouse (from Winner's)
Jeans: Gap L&L's
Sandals: Aerosoles
Cuff: Michael Kors
Handbag: Danier Leather (thrifted)

Very nice! Like that the top is full, but short. That is what makes it work!!

I agree with you wholeheartedly Shannon on the sloppy Friday crowd. I'm often surrounded by team jerseys and flip flops on Fridays. I prefer a dressier version and often include a jacket and or dressier shoes as my dressy element.

I love this outfit on you. Great mix and perfect for the day and a casual outing.

This is such a cool blouse. This combo is lovely for casual Friday, lunch out with the girls, etc. It's relaxed but still super stylish. I think the top works very well with the jeans, great proportions IMO. Now can you go wrong with polka dots:)

I think the proportions work very well :)

    Love!

And I'm so grateful you post these. Your casual Fridays are my everyday work at homes. So they are very inspirational!

Rita - let's your twinnie outfit!

Suz - I'm actually finding posting the casual Friday outfits extremely helpful as casual is where I struggle. My work wardrobe has always outweighed my casual wardrobe and when our office instituted Denim Days about a year ago, I have found dressing for those days to be more challenging. I want to look relaxed but put together, you know? LIke Jeanne commented, I'm surround on Fridays by fleece, flip flops and tees and personally, I don't find that professional in an administrative office even on casual days.

    Thanks for your feedback ladies!

I'm so with you on the casual Friday assessment. Flip flops in an office? Really??? Don't get me started. But you have nailed it with this outfit on every level. Casual? Yes. Professional and polished? Yes. Fashionable and fab? Absolutely. With just the right amount of playfulness and fun for good measure. AND it's super flattering, too. Jackpot.

I LOVE this, Shannon! This is definitely one of my favorite outfits you've posted. Very graphic and fun. It looks very flattering to me. I think you got the proportions just right.

I love this! One of my favorites!

Ditto everything Kyle said. I love the short, voluminous top on you and your super long and lean legs! Lovely!

I would feel so silly if I dressed sloppy and then see marvelous you coming trough the front door.this outfit is so casual chic, lurve it.

  • rae replied 11 years ago

Love this! I am new to denim days also, and I agree it was a struggle at first. I love your soft, flowy blouse with the heavier denim. The orange bag sets everything off!

I love your variation on casual friday. I think a lot of offices have gone away from the casual day just because it is too hard to police the flip flops lol. Or they are in Silicon valley and it is hip to be sloppy.

In any case - the top is fantastic paired with a bootcut! So good to see a lighter wash coming out to play.

    You look wonderful!

I love this Shannon!! I thought you looked nice in the thumbnail, but when I clicked on it and saw this picture full size...Wow!! You look amazing! I think the proportions are perfect and the color combination with your orange purse looks amazing!

I love how simple and yet perfect this is. You wear the voluminous blouse well.

  • citygirldc replied 11 years ago

Shannon - I so agree with you. The kids here at work decide to wear t shirt and jeans with flipflops. It's annoying. You look awesome by the way. A perfect casual outfit.

My office is the same on 'dress down' days. Some people should be banned from casual Friday, lol

    Great outfit

  • catgirl replied 11 years ago

Very nice. This needs to be part of your regular repetoire!

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

Thank you all so much - now I have another "formula" to work with!

  • Aida replied 11 years ago

Lovely, this silhouette is really nice on you Shannon! I forget, have you tried this top with a pencil skirt yet?

  • Sveta replied 11 years ago

Shannon, you are really on the roll lately. Please kiss you son once more for this blouse because it makes this outfit a winner!
As for casual Fridays don't even get me started: in my office every day is casual Friday with our fair share of sloppy dressers :-(

  • goldenpig replied 11 years ago

Wow, this is such a chic outfit for "Casual Friday". Love it! I have wondered whether I can get away with wearing dark trouser jeans to work. I think something like this would be the way to go. You look great in dots!

  • Angie replied 11 years ago

    This is a fantastic outfit!

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

Aida - I've only worn the blouse once before and it was with my black pencil midi skirt. It worked well it.

Thanks Angie and everyone for the positive feedback. Nice to hear too that I'm not the only one who has issues with the usual casual Friday fare!

  • Claudia replied 11 years ago
