WIW: Pattern & Leather

Continuing my need to dress "strong" this week, I started today's outfit with my leather blazer. I've paired it with my black/cream/purple/red abstract pattern midi pencil skirt and a dark purple tank. I've popped on a wide black belt to not only accentuate my waist but the skirt is actually getting a little big and turns around if I don't "anchor" the waist. For footwear, I've got on my Clarks pumps - for a 3 inch heel, these are incredibly comfortable. My handbag is my black/cream leather satchel and jewelry is my silver Haida wedding band.

What do you think? Does this work? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

Blazer: Danier Leather
Tank: Gap
Skirt: Cleo Petite
Micro fishnets: Hue
Shoes: Clarks Indigo
Handbag: Danier Leather (thrifted)

I think it looks fantastic. That blazer is really nice, and doesn't leather just make you feel a little more powerful?

I like the juxtaposition of fun pattern of skirt with toughness of leather. Those pumps look so comfy.

Looks great, and while it's sad that skirt is getting too big....it's getting too big! How exciting!

I love this jacket on you. It fits so well and you look so lovely in it.

I think this looks fantastic! I LOVE the shoes, actually....like a sort of cut-out bootie in a way. Hmmmm.....

And yay for looseness around the waist!! Although I hope that skirt can be altered when that becomes necessary!

Great look! I love the colors and pattern of the skirt and the leather blazer looks great with it.

Agree with Suz, you must alter that skirt when you shrink out of it. Love the purple tank with it and the belt and jacket look fab! You look like you mean business!

I really like that skirt on you, Shannon, and the cut-out booties and the leather totally give it a different look!

So glad you're having fun with dresses :)

Strong yet flirty. Tough yet ladylike. Retro yet modern. Gentle yet no-nonsense. A perfect outfit to keep Shannon going through her tough week! 11 out of 10.

    Hang in there. xo

Looks great. I keep on forgetting to try a wide belt with pencil skirts. It has been on my to do list for a while. You look fab!

I think leather instantly makes you feel more powerful, don't you?

I love the colours in this skirt and will definitely have it altered when it's too big. It's made from a beautiful weight crepe and fully lined so will definitely be worth the alteration.

    Wow Angie - that's a lot of "yet's" - lol!

    Thanks everyone!

    Hi Shannon --

I think this is a stunning outfit on you -- probably one of my favorites from your winter work looks that I've seen!

[And that's saying a lot as you have so many great ones.]

Everything about the proportions seems perfect. And since I know you often include figure flattery as one of your goals, I think you can check and doublecheck the box on that one.

I've missed why a strong look is a goal but that comes across loud and clear. Seems to be going around, too -- though I'm alternating between my leather blazer and my slanket alternative, ha!

Outstanding, Shannon! I take it you change from boots when you get to work?

  • Spiffy replied 11 years ago

    Love it x a billion!

Vix - I need to look and feel strong this week since I'm filling in for someone who is on vacation this week and her boss is very difficult to work for. So far, my strategy seems to be working 'cause I'm feeling pretty good!

Una - yep, boots outside - shoes inside. If it's not super cold, it's the Blondo Vergara's or my Naturalizer boots. If it's super cold, it's the Sorel's and to heck with fashion!

Thanks everyone! It's the first time I've paired my leather blazer with this skirt and was pleased with how they worked together.

The pattern mixing is very sophisticated here Shannon. Also the mix of textures. Finally, the sharp shoulder line really perfects the look.

All told, it's a flattering, sophisticated outfit that has a powerful vibe.

I really like how this leather jacket and shoes work together, Shannon. Another of your super fab looks!
High five on power dressing for work, I find it really helps for me too.

OMG I am in love with your shoes. I love your whole look and would wear it head to toe. I love wearing leather jackets as blazers too. You look tough and ladylike, polished and edgy all at once. Hope this week is better for you!

Purple and red, leather and heels --- doesn't get much stronger and sharper than that!

So exciting to have plans for the skirt, and so glad you have Wonder Woman to hand when you are ready to alter it.
