WIW: Oldies but Goodies

Everything in this outfit today (indoor and out) is over a year old and in some instances, two years. Just goes to show that choosing wisely in the first place leads to pieces you still love further on down the road.

Today's outfit started with my trusty ponte knit sheath dress. I combined the dress with small dot hose and my knee high black flat heel boots (my knee needs a break from heels today). On top of that, my jacket choice for today was my cobalt, asymmetrical, moto style jacket with black leather trim. Jewelry choices were my oversized black/white watch and a silver ring and I went with my black leather handbag - again.

When I head out the door into the cold, everything will be topped with my red knee length puffer coat, white scarf and white gloves.

I realize in the winter that I don't rotate my handbags as much and tend to just go with a couple because I want the handbag to work with my outdoor coat as well and some of mine look great with the outfit but not so much with the coat. Have you other winter weather ladies found the same?

So what do you think of the outfit? does it all work together? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

Moto jacket: Vince Camuto
Dress: Banana Republic
Hose: Huse
Boots: Blondo
Watch: Calvin Klein (thrifted)
Puffer coat: Lands End
Handbag: Danier Leather

Perfect, Shannon! You really show how you can rework existing faves in new ways. You look super.

You look terrific! I am impressed that all of these pieces are still favorites. And I can see why. The fit and fabrication is lovely and so suited to you and your style.

Love the red coat. What a fun pop of color in the cold grey winter!

Well, Shannon, without a doubt you are have become my favorite style icon on this site.  I watched you develop over time and it has been nothing less than amazing.  I continue to watch for your outfits and I wish you success in raising the fashion bar where you work.

I really like the red puffer. The color is so cheery on these bleak mornings.
The blue jacket goes nicely with the sheath. Definately a goodie

Love that cobalt blue jacket on you- such nice detailing.  The whole outfit is quite an impressive example of how to look chic and put together for the day ahead.  I also like the structure of your bag with it.  Bravo!

You are showing us the true value in having a very workable wardrobe. I enjoy watching the remix of your favorite workhorses (like the ponte sheath) and how you make them look new and fresh with the addition of fun jackets and stylish accessories. You look fantastic! BTW -- I also tend not to rotate my handbags as often in the winter… mostly for practical purposes. I have a large leather tote that can haul all those extra winter items like gloves, scarves, and even "indoor shoes" for when I change out of my slush boots.

Shannon - I just adore you in cobalt!!  It just lets you shine.  Love the moto styling with the column of black...so elegant!  You are a well coated woman!!  Love you in the red puffer, it just makes me happy, but I do have a soft spot for your blue leather puffer.  choices, choices!!  Everyone should have that problem.  I never swap my bags so I'm no help with that.  You look wonderful have a great day!!

Great outfit! I like how you explain the way you put it together and also that garments do not have to be brand new in order to look great together.

Great re-mix, everything looks as fresh as can be. I definitely think about how my bag works with my coat (some fit differently).

Gorgeous, each single day, Shannon! Love the color scheme-as so dareing, strong and authoritive! The cobalt moto and the red puffer are of course  show stopers, both!! But love your  knee high boots here(have textured elastication on the calves?) and your pairing all with white scarf and gloves!

As about bags, yes I preffer to match them to my outer wear especially, but if possible to my indoor ones, too-thus I don't really like to fuss with changing them often(purse organisers and all). That's why I do have only a few bags per seazon and function. But there are overlaps, too-depending on my moods.

    Does it work, she asks.

    Sheeesh!!!!

    <Rolls eyes heavenward.>

You look lovely - bright, fresh, and ready to win the world!

OMG this is amazing.  You look professional and edgy.  Gorgeous jacket, I want!

    You look terrific Shannon!

Gabrielle - my goodness....thank you so much (*blushing*)

Gryffin - "well coated woman" - lol! I adore my leather puffer too but when you have a winter as long and as cold as ours, a gal needs choices so she doesn't get sick to death of that winter coat. I do wear the red puffer with skirts and dresses since it goes to my knees.

MuseumGal - "professional and edgy" - WOW. That is EXACTLY what I'm wanting to achieve. Thank you so much.

    Thanks all :)

You have some superb coats Shannon! I love that cobalt jacket too!! YLF!!

  • Beth Ann replied 10 years ago

Yes to fab coats and cobalt!  Sometimes I like to push the envelope with new colors, textures, and silhouettes, but it's important to revisit and enjoy the successes -- the outfits that shine, like this one!

Have a great day and be good to yourself this weekend.  New work and environments are exhausting and your down time becomes ever more important!

You look great, Shannon!  Fresh and chic.  This is an excellent illustration of excellent choices paying off down the road.

Golden Oldie Goodies and looking as sharp and confidant as ever. I see a little super hero strength here too.

  • Joy replied 10 years ago

Cobalt and black perfection! I have Blondo boot envy as I tried those and they didn't work for me but were so beautiful. Your red leather puffer will stop traffic so people can get a better look.

  • MsMary replied 10 years ago

You look awesome, Puffer Twin!!  :)

  • rae replied 10 years ago

Gosh, those colors both look good on you!! And the puffer is so cheery. I hear you about the bag-coat issue... with how functional a heavy coat has to be, you just have to work around it instead of working around the bag, I guess.

  • Petite Marj replied 10 years ago

I say "ditto" to Suz' comment. You in your red puffer brings a huge smile to my face! Delightful...

  • LoveSarahDub replied 10 years ago

You look great! Love that blue on you! Fabulous! :)

  • CocoLion replied 10 years ago

Love the black/blue/red combo.  Doesn't it feel good when we make the right shopping choices?  I can see how the jacket, dress, boots and coat all have more life too, it's not like they're on their last season.

  • Deborah replied 10 years ago

Shannon this is a beautiful outfit. I have a real soft spot for that cobalt jacket, it's just devine. Everything here works beautifully. With respect to bags, I tend to change daily regardless of the weather.. but then Im a little neurotic lol.
