WIW: Old Items and a K/P question

Today's outfit consists of two older items from my closet - my abstract print wrap dress and a cropped distressed denim jacket. Both of these have been major players in my wardrobe for the past three+ years.

The dress is staying - I still love it as much now as I did when I bought it. I started my outfit today with the dress and then added my denim topper for the office a/c. It's the jacket that is currently in my probation pile. I have my faded w/leather sleeved denim jacket that I think is a bit more current with its longer and roomier fit. I'm wondering if the one I'm wearing here is now passé? I feel like the cropped denim jacket may be dated.

I added my wide purple leather belt for some waist accentuation and went with my trusty black/white polka dot Birks for footwear today (I need happy feet today).

To finish off the outfit, I went with my large cream handbag to bring out the white tones in the dress, my taupe/silver wrap watch, silver wedding band and my purple/clear specs.

So what do you think? Is this type of combination dated now? Do I keep or purge the denim jacket? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

The jacket looks great, perfect length for your height and that dress.

I don't know, that jacket seems kind of classic to me -- not super cropped. I would keep. It looks great.

I think the outfit is terrific, and love the way the purse brings out the light tones in the dress. I agree the jacket is a classic.

I don't see cropped denim jackets as dated ever.

    I say keep, it's a classic.  IMHO.

    Fab outfit overall!

I think the shorter length really works well with dresses, especially this one!

I think the jacket looks great!

I'd keep it, Shannon. I don't wear my denim jackets a ton, and really only in summer, but they are super useful toppers to have for skirts and dresses. And you wear dresses a lot!

I still love that dress, too.  :)

I see no reason to banish the jacket.  And I see perfectly why that dress is a keeper too.

I see denim jackets as classic pieces that never really go out of style. Even though I don't wear mine a ton, I do wear them and would miss them if they were gone. I say keep!

How vould this look dated when you are rocking birks with a dress? I think the jacket hits you in a flattering place, especially because you belted the dress. Can't speak to the versatility of cropped denim in general, but I think it looks great here.

I agree with others that the jacket is classic.  It doesn't look dated but it may not be as current as other topper choices.  Great outfit! I'm only looking from the ankles up :) because I truly have a poison eye for birks.  The only people I see wearing them around here are the hippy arty types so that's not helping any.

I wouldn't purge the jacket.  I'd just put it in the back of the closet for a while, if you can spare the space.  I remember a post from Angie a year or so ago where she talked about putting away wardrobe items that she loves, but isn't feeling at the moment, and then pulling them back out a year or more later to love again.  I think your jacket is classic enough for that.  It's just not your thing right now.  I'd keep it.

Thank you ladies - it looks like the jacket is going to stay :) I truly appreciate the feedback.

Sara - I hear you on the Birks. They are certainly not everyone's cuppa tea :)

Cropped denim jackets are magic on dresses Shannon! I have one too and I am not purging it anytime soon :). It's a keeper IMO.

Also, for a change in silhouette with boxier denim jacket, you could try your mixed media denim jacket over dresses when you feel like it. And I really really wish Birks worked for me!

That Jay Manuel Dress!! Every time I see you in it I kick myself for not buying it.  I think you look totally modern and fab, and I'd keep the jacket.  Extra love for your coordinated specs.

  • Jaime replied 9 years ago

Keep - does not look dated to me at all.

  • lyn67 replied 9 years ago

A good denim jacket never dates! Keep!

Keep the jacket. And even though I'm not a Birks fan, I think your outfit is fab!

  • citygirldc replied 9 years ago

Two thumbs up. A perfect outfit. I'm always a fan of a good denim jacket that fits well and the one you have is perfect. Heck, if you ever want to get rid of it, send it to me. :) I'd wear it in a heart beat.

I love everything about this outfit. The jacket does not strike me as dated at all. I guess the question is: how did you feel in it?

  • Aida replied 9 years ago

Another vote for "the jacket is a classic" (in case you weren't already convinced), and how cute do you look :D

  • ironkurtin replied 9 years ago

I plan to be buried in my denim jacket.  Take from that what you will. :)

  • Caro in Oz replied 9 years ago

I'm a recent convert to denim jackets so another keep :)
YLF in that dress & I LOVE your Birkies - sorry Sara.
