WIW: Nothing New - still current looking?

Today's outfit started with my cobalt pencil skirt. This skirt is 3+ years old but still in great condition. I then paired it with my drapey cobalt and black print sleeveless blouse. This blouse is now in its third summer. It's going to be very hot and humid today so outside, the blouse and skirt is great for the heat. But because my office is like a freezer where I could keep meat fresh on my desk, I will add my denim jacket on top to keep my neck and arms warm. The jacket is new to me but was thrifted so who knows the age.

For footwear I went with my nude peep toe sandal booties - I cannot imagine my summer footwear capsule without something like these. They have been unbelievably versatile and comfortable.

I grabbed my navy vintage Coach handbag, red specs, taupe/silver wrap watch and silver wedding band to finish off the outfit. Forgot my red lip for the pics but I'll be adding that before heading out the door.

There is nothing special about this outfit and it isn't trendy in the least. Does it still work and look current to you? As always, all comments/ suggestions welcome :)

Well I think it is special. I think it looks modern and current. I am not sure I know what trendy is any more:) but this is quite a timeless and stylish look in my books. Cobalt is a brilliant colour on you.

Thanks for your reply Deb. I think that's what I was talking about in my thread about trendy versus current. I don't need to be particularly trendy but I want to look current - not like I'm stuck in some time warp.

My head spins sometimes trying to figure out if something is trendy or classic or whatever. It seems everything goes BUT YLF no matter what. I am currently loving cobalt too.

I don't know if it is trendy or current.  I do know it is flattering and looks great on you.  It is a great color on you, the fit is fab and there are interesting details, and you obviously feel great in it.  All very good Shannon.

Shannon, you look smokin' hot!   Sleek and modern.   You could wear this outfit anywhere in Atlanta and be the best-dressed woman in the room.

This outfit makes me think of something Micah Gianneli might wear.   If you're going out after work, and feeling gutsy, add some 'tough girl' jewelry and a bright red lip.

I think that 'trendy' is a buzzword the retail industry likes to sling around to try and sell us stuff.

I think it looks current and awsome! Great color and flattering, lovely. Who needs trendy anyway? These pieces, 3 yrs old, how awsome is that?

  • Maneera replied 8 years ago

You look stunning in cobalt Shannon! Everything about this outfit is beautiful - from the matching top, to the sandals and the bag as well. I'd wear it in a heartbeat! Very flattering colours on you and great fit...what more can a girl want?!

  • Jaime replied 8 years ago

Actually super trendy two piece dress/set :-)! Regardless, you look fab!

Love this color (but you knew that, didn't you?)!  The proportions are cool, flattering and modern, so it's a definite win.

Trendy is a term that, to me, always carries an ephemeral overtone.  Trendy doesn't last, but a modern classic look worn by Marilyn Monroe would still seem lovely today.

The look that you're wearing here would be interesting paired with burgundy or brown.  I love cobalt with earthy colors.

I think you still look very current.  Your peeptoe booties are modern and help make the outfit look 2015.  To me, (and I admit I'm a shoe person) current shoes can make classic outfits look modern.

Modern, cool and current to my eye.  And Deb is right - cobalt is another great colour for you.  And I'll be dropping off some stuff for your desk that is taking up too much room in my freezer.  I have this huge bag of frozen blueberries that falls out every time i open the freezer door.

This is a terrific looking ensemble! Definitely not dated.

A fabulous Shannon look. A classic that you wear with the best of them. CURRENT for sure. You are gorgeous in cobalt.

  • Transcona Shannon replied 8 years ago

donnat - I've definitely gotten my money's worth out of these items, that's for sure!

Beth Ann - love your suggestion for adding burgundy or brown. I don't have any brown but will see what I can come up with. Cognac could work too I think.

Lisap - lol! I can definitely take those blueberries off your hands and keep them fresh for you. I actually have a small heater under my desk to blow warm air onto my feet/legs. How pitiful is that on a day when we have a heat advisory???

Thank you all for the outfit validation - I do feel good in this combination. So not trendy is ok if it's at least classic with a hint of current :)

I love your classic vibe. And the space heater in summer thing saved me often during my working days.

what the heck is up with your office?  are you storing more than just documents in there?

  • RoseandJoan replied 8 years ago

I agree with Shevia, the two part dress, the column of colour, you're are very on trend but also classically in style.

  • rachylou replied 8 years ago

Spunky! Also, I wondered immediately if that was a Coach bag. I really the upcoming Coach season, but the old Coach has that hallmark distinctiveness.

  • shedev replied 8 years ago

Looks current to me. You really rock the cobalt.

  • Aida replied 8 years ago

Looks great Shannon, and as Jaime pointed out is actually nicely on trend with the two-piece dress effect :)

  • Joy replied 8 years ago

You.look fabulous. The outfit looks modern classic with the drapey blouse and peeptoe booties underlining the modern part.

  • catgirl replied 8 years ago

  • Helena replied 8 years ago

    Cobalt looks great on you!

  • anne replied 8 years ago

Yes the shoes really make it look current! (And it is great overall)

  • lyn67 replied 8 years ago

    Yes, I love it!

  • dakotacheryl replied 8 years ago

I agree with others that the shoes keep the outfit current...and the skirt and top prove that a classic basic shape will have a long long life in your wardrobe.
You can't beat those classic Coach bags, and the denim jacket makes the outfit fun.
Cobalt is such a great color to wear close to your pretty hair !!

  • pastrygirl replied 8 years ago

I think this looks GREAT. I love the color on you. The proportions look great, too. You look comfortable AND awesome. That's not easy to do!

  • AviaMariah replied 8 years ago

It looks like you could have purchases that whole outfit yesterday.  I feel so accomplished when I can pull out old items and still love them.

  • CocoLion replied 8 years ago
